Chapter 73

Séb was the first to wake up the next morning and he looked at Sheena who was still sleeping in his arms. She looked so beautiful and he couldn’t find it in his heart to wake her up. Séb gently removed a strand of hair from her face and Sheena began to stir. She slowly opened her eyes to see Séb staring at her.

“I didn’t mean to wake you up. I’m sorry,” Séb apologized.

“Don’t be sorry,” Sheena smiled at him.

“What do you want to do today?” Séb asked her.

“Christmas is only a week away and I really think we should do some Christmas shopping. We have to buy presents for Amanda, our moms and Gary,” Sheena replied.

“And you have to buy a present for me,” Séb added.

“Only if you buy me a present,” Sheena told him.

“I’ve already bought your present,” Séb said with a smile.

“Really? What is it?” Sheena wanted to know.

“I won’t tell you. You have to wait until Christmas,” Séb told her.

“I hate you,” Sheena said.

“Of course you do,” Séb laughed.

“So what do you think of the plan?” Sheena looked at Séb.

“I like your plan. Let’s get some breakfast,” Séb kissed her.

They got out of bed and Séb went downstairs to start breakfast while Sheena put on a robe. She let out a yawn before she walked downstairs. When she walked into the kitchen, Séb was staring out of the window. Sheena couldn’t believe her eyes when she looked out of the window. It was snowing.

“Watching the snow brings back a lot of memories,” Sheena walked over to Séb.

“It sure does,” Séb turned to face her.

“This will be your first Christmas with Amanda,” Sheena touched his cheek.

“I know and I can’t wait. Breakfast is ready,” Séb said.

Séb and Sheena sat down and enjoyed their breakfast. They talked about what to buy for Amanda but they had no idea because her list of wishes was long. Little did they know that Amanda only had one wish for Christmas, a wish that wasn’t on the list.

After breakfast and the dishes were put away, Sheena and Séb went upstairs to get ready. An hour later they left the mansion and drove off.

*******

“This is impossible,” Sheena let out a sigh.

“Maybe we should ask Amanda to remove a few wishes from the list?” Séb suggested.

“Good luck with that,” Sheena laughed.

“I know it won’t be easy. She is just as stubborn as you are,” Séb said.

“Yes she is. Ok, let’s focus on our moms and Gary for now,” Sheena put away Amanda’s wish list.

“Maybe we should buy something for Juliette,” Séb looked at Sheena.

“I completely forgot about her. We should do that,” Sheena agreed.

Séb held Sheena’s hand as they walked through the streets of Paris. People around them seemed to be in a hurry but Sheena and Séb had plenty of time. Amanda wouldn’t be home until 2pm so there was no need for them to hurry.

After buying presents for Camille, Millie, Gary and Juliette, Sheena and Séb decided to grab a cup of hot chocolate in a small cafe. It was still snowing when they left the cafe half an hour later. Séb had made plans for them to have lunch at their favorite bistro but he wanted it to be a surprise.

“Where are we going?” Sheena wanted to know.

“It’s a surprise but I know that you will love it,” Séb answered with a smile.

“Well, I hope that we are there soon because I’m freezing,” Sheena said.

“Here we are,” Séb said.

“I remember this place. This is where you told me that you loved me,” Sheena looked at him.

“Yes, it is,” Séb opened the door.

They went inside and the owner greeted both of them. He showed them to their table and told them that the food would be served soon.

“I hope you don’t mind but I ordered food when I booked the table,” Séb informed Sheena.

“I don’t mind. What are we having?” Sheena asked.

“The same thing we had the last time we were here,” Séb replied with a smile.

“That sounds good to me,” Sheena smiled at him.

The food was served and Séb and Sheena had a great time. It was almost 2pm when they arrived back at the mansion.

*********

It was a little after 2pm when Camille and Amanda arrived at the mansion and of course Amanda was happy to see her parents after two weeks apart. Hugs and kisses were exchanged and both Camille and Amanda wanted to hear about the honeymoon.

“We will tell you everything but you have to change your clothes first,” Séb told Amanda.

“Ok daddy,” Amanda ran upstairs.

“Has she given you any problems?” Sheena asked Camille.

“She has been behaving like an angel. Amanda has been spending a lot of time with Gabrielle and the two of them have become best friends,” Camille replied.

“That’s good,” Sheena said.

“How are you doing?” Camille touched Sheena’s belly.

“I’m doing fine. My next checkup is after Christmas,” Sheena informed Camille.

“Do you want a boy or a girl?” Camille sipped her hot chocolate.

“It doesn’t matter. I want a healthy baby and I know that Séb feels the same way,” Sheena answered.

Amanda returned and they walked into the living room where Séb was waiting. Séb and Sheena told Camille and Amanda everything there was to tell and Séb showed them pictures. Amanda took one of the pictures and stared at it.

“You look beautiful mommy,” Amanda flashed her smile.

“Thanks pumpkin,” Sheena smiled back.

“It looks like you had a great time,” Camille added.

“We did. The resort was amazing and the food was delicious. It was perfect,” Séb said.

“Did you see any puppies?” Amanda asked.

“No, we didn’t,” Séb replied, wondering why she asked.

“Oh. That’s sad because puppies are so cute,” Amanda said.

“Why are you talking about puppies?” Sheena was curious.

“Gabrielle’s mommy and daddy gave her a puppy for her birthday. It is so cute,” Amanda replied as she tilted her head.

“I’m sure it is cute,” Sheena sipped her hot chocolate.

“Can I have a puppy for Christmas?” Amanda wanted to know.

“What?” Séb almost choked on his hot chocolate.

“Can I have a puppy too?” Amanda repeated her question.

“A puppy is a great responsibility,” Sheena told her.

“I know but I promise that I will take really good care of it,” Amanda said.

“We know you will but your mom and I need to talk about this. We can’t just say yes,” Séb explained.

“Christmas is around the corner so why don’t you ask Santa for a puppy?” Sheena asked.

“That’s a great idea. I will do that,” Amanda flashed her smile.

The subject was closed for now but they knew that Amanda would bring up the subject later. After they had finished the hot chocolate, Amanda went upstairs to her room for a nap. Camille had a dinner date so she had to leave and Séb and Sheena wanted to relax while Amanda was sleeping.

“Why did you tell her to ask Santa for a puppy?” Séb looked at Sheena.

“I don’t know. It just flew out,” Sheena told him.

“Well, we might have found the perfect Christmas present for Amanda,” Séb said.

“Do you really mean that?” Sheena was surprised.

“I wouldn’t have said it if I didn’t mean it. I know a puppy is a great responsibility but we can do it,” Séb answered.

“I guess we are getting a dog then,” Sheena said.

“Let’s see if anyone is selling puppies,” Séb took out his laptop.

While Amanda was napping, Séb and Sheena were looking at puppies. They found three families in Paris who were selling puppies. The three families were selling different breeds and after discussing breeds for a few minutes, Séb and Sheena had made their decision. Séb picked up the phone and called the family.

“We got the puppy and we can see him the day after tomorrow,” Séb told Sheena.

“I can’t believe we’re doing this,” Sheena looked at him.

“Well, we are doing it. I just hope we picked the right breed,” Séb said.

“We did and Amanda will love him,” Sheena smiled at Séb.

“So will we,” Séb kissed her.

Séb and Sheena fell asleep on the couch and they were still sleeping when Amanda came down. She had been dreaming about puppies and she hoped that Santa would bring her a puppy for Christmas. Amanda woke up Sheena and Séb and the three of them prepared dinner together.

Chapter 74

---- Paris ----

The most wonderful time of the year had finally arrived. A thick layer of snow was covering the ground and the mansion looked like it was placed in the middle of a winter wonderland. The snow had started to fall the night before and it had been snowing all night and most of the morning too. It had stopped snowing right after noon but the weather forecast promised more snow later.

Millie and Gary had decided to leave Los Angeles a day earlier just in case the snow would close the airport and they had made the right decision. The airport had closed down two hours after the plane from Los Angeles had arrived.

Amanda had only experienced snow once in her life and of course she wanted to play in the snow. After lunch, Amanda had managed to talk Séb and Gary into playing with her and the three “children” had been having a blast. Gary had taught Amanda how to make snow angels and of course they couldn’t resist a snow ball fight.

While the “children” had been playing in the snow, Millie and Sheena had been busy in the kitchen. It was Christmas and it wouldn’t be Christmas without cookies so they had made four kind of cookies. Sheena had been watching a French baking show and one of the challenges had been to make a Bûche de Noël.

“I think you did a great job. It looks delicious,” Millie looked at the cake.

“Thanks. I hope it tastes as good as it looks. This is my first attempt to make a Bouche Noël and I just want it to be perfect,” Sheena said.

“Of course you want it to be perfect. You want everything to touch to be perfect,” Millie smiled at her.

“I know. It’s my worst flaw,” Sheena sighed.

“No, it’s not. It’s one of the things I love about you,” Séb suddenly said.

“What is?” Sheena questioned.

“Your perfectionism,” Séb replied, winking at her.

“Thanks,” Sheena said.

“When are you picking up Camille and you know who?” Millie asked Séb.

“After lunch. I hope I will be able to pick up both of them before it starts to snow again,” Séb answered.

“I will go with you,” Gary told him.

“Thanks. I need to change my clothes,” Séb excused himself.

“Maybe I should change too,” Gary smiled and left.

“Can we decorate the tree now, mommy?” Amanda entered the kitchen.

“It depends on your dad. Your dad and Gary have to pick up grandma Camille and maybe he wants to be here when we decorate the tree,” Sheena replied.

“You can decorate the tree but I want to be here when you put the angel on the tree and turn on the lights,” Séb walked into the kitchen.

“Ok, daddy,” Amanda flashed her smile.

Séb smiled back at her as he put on his coat. Gary and Séb said goodbye and left. As soon as they were gone, Amanda ran into the living room and straight over to the fireplace. She sat down in front of the fireplace and picked up her shoes. It’s a tradition in France that the children put their shoes in front of the fireplace so that Pere Noël can put Candy and presents in them.

“Pére Noël gave me candy and three small presents,” Amanda proudly said.

“You must have been an good girl,” Millie walked over to her.

“I’m always a good girl,” Amanda firmly stated.

“Not always but you have been good and maybe you will get a few Christmas presents today,” Sheena added.

“Yay,” Amanda flashed her smile.

They sat down on the floor next to the three cardboard boxes on the floor. Pierre had gathered a lot of Christmas decorations over the years and it was really difficult for Sheena to choose which ornaments to put on the tree. She asked Millie to put the lights on the tree and once the lights were on the tree, it was time to decorate. They had just finished decorating the tree when a car pulled up in front of the mansion. Shortly after, Séb, Gary and Camille walked into the living room.

“Grandma,” Amanda ran over to Camille.

“Hi sweetheart. How are you?” Camille hugged Amanda.

“I’m great. Mommy says that I will get my presents today,” Amanda flashed her smile.

“Some of your presents. You will get some today and the rest tomorrow,” Sheena looked at Amanda.

“Ok,” Amanda agreed.

“How are you feeling?” Camille hugged Sheena.

“I’m fine. The baby is growing and we are all excited,” Sheena answered.

“I’m excited too,” Camille smiled at her.

“We are all excited,” Millie added.

“It’s good to see you again,” Camille hugged Millie.

“You too,” Millie said.

“Wow. The tree looks fantastic,” Camille noticed the tree.

“Thanks. All we need now is to put the angel on top and turn on the lights,” Sheena handed the angel to Amanda.

Séb picked up Amanda and raised her above his head. She carefully placed the angel on top of the tree and Séb put her back down. Sheena, Amanda, Millie and Camille went into the kitchen to make some hot chocolate and Gary stayed in the living room with Séb. They put the presents under the tree and then Séb went into Sheena’s office to get the puppy.

When Sheena, Amanda, Millie and Camille returned to the living room, Gary turned on the lights and everyone was admiring the tree.

“I promised you some presents today and I think the time has come for you to open a few presents,” Sheena said, looking at Amanda.

“This one is from your grandma and me,” Gary handed Amanda a present.

Amanda opened it and she found a two ceramic bowls with paw prints painted on them. It was easy to see that Amanda was confused. She looked at her parents, then at Camille and finally Millie and Gary but she didn’t say anything.

“This one is from me,” Camille gave Amanda a present.

It was a dog collar and a leash and Amanda was even more confused now. She was only five and her mind was trying to understand what was going on.

“Thanks but I don’t need these things. I don’t have a dog,” Amanda sighed.

“Maybe you should open this one. It’s from your mom and me,” Séb placed a box in front of Amanda.

Amanda wasn’t sure if she wanted to open the box and she was a bit hesitant. When Séb told her that she wouldn’t be disappointed, she gently undid the red bow. She opened the box and let out a scream when she saw what was inside the box.

“It’s a puppy,” Amanda looked at Sheena and Séb.

“It sure is. It’s a boy and you can name him anything you want,” Séb smiled at her.

“I will call him Divo,” Amanda said.

“Why Divo?” Sheena asked.

“I can’t name him after uncle Carlos, uncle David or uncle Urs and I can’t name him after daddy. The only name I can think of is Divo,” Amanda explained.

“Well, I think it’s a great name for him and he seems to like it,” Millie said.

Divo was wagging his tail and everyone agreed that Divo should be the name. Séb gently reached into the box and took out Divo. The dog ran straight over to Amanda and licked her face. Séb placed the collar around Divo’s neck and Amanda put him on a leash. She walked around the living room with Divo and he seemed to be fine with being on a leash. Amanda removed the leash from Divo and ran over to everyone and thanked them for the presents.

“Guess the food bowls, the collar and the leash were not bad presents after all,” Gary smiled at her.

“Nope,” Amanda said, her cheeks blushing.

“I think you need a nap,” Séb said when Amanda let out a yawn.

“Can Divo sleep with me in my room?” Amanda asked, tilting her head.

“Yes, but not in the bed,” Séb replied.

“Ok,” Amanda agreed.

She walked out of the living room and Divo followed her. Shortly after, she returned to the living room. Divo couldn’t walk on stairs and she couldn’t carry him upstairs. Gary offered to carry him upstairs and Amanda accepted the offer. When Gary returned to the living room, they finished their hot chocolate.

Chapter 75

----- Switzerland -----

It was morning in Switzerland and the snow had started to fall. The snowflakes looked like they were dancing and Miki couldn’t stop staring at them. Miki had been fascinated by snowflakes since she was a child and she would spend a lot of time studying snowflakes using a magnifying glass.

“Still studying snowflakes?” Urs wrapped his arms around her waist.

“Yes. I can’t help it. Did you know that every single snowflake is unique?” Miki asked him.

“You told me that a long time ago,” Urs kissed her cheek.

“I forgot to thank you for a wonderful evening and night,” Miki turned her head.

“You should thank my parents. It was their idea,” Urs smiled at her.

“Not all of it I hope,” Miki giggled.

“No, that part was my idea,” Urs blushed.

“You look so cute when you’re blushing,” Miki said.

“Thanks. I smell breakfast. We should put on some clothes and get our daughter,” Urs changed the subject.

“Good idea,” Miki agreed.

They got dressed and left the bedroom. As they walked down the hall to Dara and Nico’s bedroom to pick up Ellie, Dara emerged from the bathroom with Ellie in her arms.

“Good morning. I just changed her diaper and breakfast should be ready in a few minutes,” Dara told them.

“Thanks, Dara. Did my parents arrive yet?” Miki asked her.

“No but they are on their way. The road is currently closed because of an accident but they expect to be here soon,” Dara replied.

“That’s great. I don’t know about you but I’m starving,” Miki said.

“Me too. Let’s eat,” Urs said with a smile.

Nico was in the kitchen when they arrived and he greeted Miki and Urs. They took their seats at the table and Dara served them breakfast. She had just taken a seat when the doorbell rang. Dara was about to get up when Urs told her that he would get it. He walked to the hall and opened the door.

“You made it,” Urs stepped aside.

“Yes, we did. We saw two accidents and the road is really slippery now. I’m really glad that we’re not driving home tonight,” Constantin said, entering the hall.

“You’ve arrived just in time for breakfast,” Urs told them.

“That sounds good. I could really use a cup of coffee,” Eliane walked into the hall.

“Let me help you with your coat,” Urs said to Eliane.

Once their coats were removed, Urs escorted them into the kitchen. Hugs and kisses were exchanged and they sat down and enjoyed their breakfast. During breakfast they talked about the plans for the day even though they didn’t have much to talk about. Christmas at the Buhler home hadn’t changed much in ten years because the Buhlers had certain Christmas traditions and those traditions couldn’t be changed or left out.

However, there was one small change this year. A baby girl named Ellie Grace had entered the Buhler family and she would be celebrating her first Christmas. That was special and even though she had no idea what Christmas was, everyone wanted to make her first Christmas unforgettable.

Having breakfast together was one of the traditions and the second tradition was to go for a walk right after breakfast. Everyone went to their bedrooms to put on some warm clothes and then they went for a walk. It had stopped snowing and the only sound you could hear was the sound of footsteps as they walked through the snow.

It was an hour later when they walked back to the house. The snow had started to fall again and the wind was getting stronger. They had lived in Switzerland long enough to know that a blizzard was on its way.

When they arrived at the house, they all gathered in the living room where the tree was. Dara went into the kitchen to make some hot chocolate and the others began to look at the ornaments for the tree. When Dara walked in with the hot chocolate, the lights were on the tree and Miki and Urs were busy decorating the tree.

“The tree looks great but something is missing,” Dara said.

“Really? We’ve used all the ornaments and other decorations in the boxes,” Miki looked at her.

“A good friend of mine knows someone who makes personal Christmas ornaments and we gave my friend a few pictures of Ellie. She gave them to her friend and he came up with this,” Dara gave Urs and Miki a box.

Urs opened the box and he couldn’t believe his eyes. He looked at Miki who had tears in her eyes. Inside the box they found a pink Christmas ornament with Ellie’s picture on it.

“I spoke to your parents and we have decided to start a new tradition. Each year we will send a picture to my friend and her friend will make a Christmas ornament with Ellie’s picture on it. When you have more kids, we will do the same with their pictures,” Dara explained.

“I think it’s a great tradition and I love it,” Miki said.

“Me too. Thanks everyone,” Urs placed the ornament on the tree.

Once the tree was fully decorated, they all gathered in the TV room and watched “A Christmas Carol”. Watching “A Christmas Carol” had always been a tradition in the Hedinger family and Miki had been thrilled when the Buhler family agreed to add the tradition to their long list of traditions.

It was early afternoon when the movie ended and they all agreed that it was too late for a big lunch so Dara and Eliane made a few sandwiches for them to eat. After they had finished their sandwiches, Urs and Miki went upstairs to get some rest. Constantin promised to look after Ellie Grace who had fallen asleep in his arms.

“She is a beautiful baby,” Constantin said.

“Yes, she is,” Dara agreed.

“And hopefully Urs and Miki will have more just like her,” Eliane added.

“I hope the next one is a boy,” Nico said.

“Why? As long as the baby is healthy it shouldn’t matter if it’s a boy or a girl,” Dara looked at him.

“I agree but right now there are three girls in the Divo world. Amanda, Victoria and Ellie. We need boys too,” Nico told his wife.

“Well, we do have two pregnant Divo girls and maybe one of them will have a boy,” Dara smiled.

“We just have to wait and see,” Nico smiled back.

"I don’t know about you but I could use another cup of hot chocolate,” Dara said.

Nico, Constantin and Eliane also wanted another cup of hot chocolate and Dara went into the kitchen to warm the milk. When she returned, she placed the tray on the table and walked over to the window.

“Look at that,” Dara said.

“That looks bad. I think we should get some more firewood before the blizzard gets worse,” Nico got up.

“I will help you,” Constantin got up too.

He placed Ellie Grace in Eliane’s arms and left the living room with Nico. The two men quickly put on their coats and mittens and left the house. They returned with the firewood and placed it next to the fireplace. After removing their coats and mittens, they sat down and finished their hot chocolate.

“How bad is it?” Eliane asked.

“It’s bad. You can’t see anything out there. I had to hold on to Nico when we walked to the shed and back or I would have gotten lost,” Constantin answered.

“Then it is bad,” Eliane said.

“What are you talking about?” Urs walked into the living room.

“The blizzard. Your dad and Constantin went outside to get some more firewood and they couldn’t see anything out there,” Eliane explained.

“It really does look bad,” Urs walked over to the window.

“Where is Miki?” Dara asked.

“I’m here,” Miki walked into the living room.

“Good. You’re just in time to help us with dinner,” Dara walked over to her.

“Great. Let’s get started,” Miki smiled at her.

Dara, Miki and Eliane disappeared into the kitchen and Urs checked on Eliie who was beginning to stir in her crib. Urs picked her up and walked over to the couch and sat down. Ellie’s eyes were still closed and Urs gently rocked her in his arms.

“You’re a great dad. Better than I was,” Nico said to him.

“You were a great dad,” Urs looked at him.

“Not when you were her age. I didn’t know what I was doing. Your mom got mad at me sometimes and looking back, I don’t blame her,” Nico laughed.

“Well, you must have done something right because I think that I turned out ok,” Urs smiled at his dad.

“You sure did. I’m proud to call you my son,” Nico placed his hand on Urs’ shoulder.

Urs was about to speak when Ellie Grace began to cry. Miki walked into the living room and sat down next to Urs who placed Ellie Grace in her arms. Nico and Constantin walked into the kitchen to help Dara and Eliane with dinner while Miki was feeding Ellie.

As soon as Ellie had been fed, Miki went upstairs to give Ellie a bath while Urs walked into the kitchen to help with dinner. After the bath, Miki dried off Ellie and dressed her up in the outfit that Eliane had made for her.

Miki walked downstairs and joined the others in the kitchen. She couldn’t wait to show everyone how cute Ellie looked in her outfit. Miki announced that they were back and everyone turned around to look at them.

“Our very own Santa baby,” Urs walked over to Miki and kissed her.

“She looks so cute,” Dara added.

“I couldn’t agree with you more,” Eliane said to Dara.

“I hate to spoil the fun but I think it’s time for us to get ready for dinner,” Constantin looked at his watch.

“You’re right about that. Dara and I will stay here and the rest of you can get ready for dinner,” Eliane told him.

Dara agreed and Miki placed Ellie in Eliane’s arms before she went upstairs with Urs. When Miki and Urs returned, Dara and Eliane went upstairs to get ready. Half an hour later, they all sat down at the dining room table and enjoyed their Christmas dinner.

Chapter 76

----- Paris -----

It was almost 10pm when Sheena turned on the dishwasher. It had been a great Christmas Eve so far and everyone was having a great time. The snow was still falling slowly outside and Sheena looked at the lake in front of the mansion. It was covered in ice and snow and it brought back memories to her first Christmas with Séb.

“Did you forget about us?” Séb walked into the kitchen.

“I’m sorry. I got lost in my own thoughts,” Sheena turned to look at him.

“Would you like to share those thoughts?” Séb walked over to her.

“I was looking at the lake and it got me thinking of our first Christmas together,” Sheena said.

“I remember that Christmas. We went ice skating in the park late at night,” Séb kissed her neck.

“Yes, we did,” Sheena turned around, still locked in his embrace.

“We could do it again tonight when everyone has gone to bed,” Séb suggested.

“No because we don’t have any skates here,” Sheena slipped out of his embrace.

Séb didn’t say anything. He just watched Sheena as she poured the hot chocolate into the mugs and placed them on the tray along with the cake. Séb grabbed the tray and they joined the others in the living room.

“Did you make the cake?” Camille asked Sheena.

“Yes, I did. I’ve never made it before but I hope it tastes good,” Sheena replied.

Séb cut the cake and passed a piece to Camille. Sheena was nervous when Camille tasted the cake but she had nothing to worry about.

“I couldn’t have made it better myself. It’s delicious,” Camille smiled at Sheena.

“Thanks,” Sheena smiled back.

They all enjoyed the cake and the hot chocolate. Amanda opened three more presents before it was bedtime. She said goodnight to everyone and Sheena went with her upstairs. Amanda claimed that she wasn’t tired but she fell asleep the second her head hit the pillow. Sheena kissed her softly and went downstairs.

It was almost midnight when Camille, Millie and Gary said goodnight. Sheena cleared the table and carried the mugs and plates into the kitchen. While Sheena was in the kitchen, Séb was in the living room, preparing his surprise for her. He sat down on the fur rug he had placed in front of the fireplace and waited for Sheena to return.

“What is going on?” Sheena walked into the living room.

“You will see. Come and sit down,” Séb reached out his hand.

Sheena placed her hand in Séb’s and sat down next to him. She looked at him, wondering what he was up to. Without saying a word, Séb reached for a present under the tree and gave it to Sheena.

“Open it,” Séb said.

“But it’s not time for presents yet,” Sheena looked at him.

“It’s past midnight so technically it is,” Séb smiled at her.

“That’s true,” Sheena smiled back.

Séb watched her closely as she opened the present and he couldn’t wait to see her reaction. Sheena looked at the content and she couldn’t believe her eyes.

“Where did you get those?” Sheena asked him.

“I’ve had them since you left Paris. You forgot to take them with you when you left,” Séb replied.

“I can’t believe that you kept them,” Sheena said.

“Maybe I hoped that one day we could go ice skating again. It’s Christmas, the snow is falling and the lake is frozen so what do you say? Would you like to go ice skating with me?” Séb looked at her.

“I’d love to,” Sheena smiled at him.

Séb and Sheena put on some warm clothes and left the mansion. Once they were at the lake, they put on their ice skates and got on the ice. Séb was being very protective of Sheena as they ran across the ice because he didn’t want anything to happen to her or the baby.

After spending about ten minutes on the ice, Séb and Sheena returned to the mansion. They took off their coats and went upstairs to get some sleep.

----- Lucerne ----

The Buhlers and Hedingers had finished dinner and they were now relaxing in the living room in front of the fireplace. They had been listening to the radio all evening because of the weather condition and according to the latest weather forecast, the blizzard would continue its rage over night.

“What are you thinking of, mutti?” Urs asked Dara.

“I was just thinking of tomorrow. If the blizzard continues then I don’t think the others will get here and we will be stuck with a lot of food,” Dara replied.

“They will get here. This isn’t the first time we’ve had a blizzard and they will find a way to get here,” Urs hugged her.

“I know they will. They’ve never let us down before,” Dara smiled at him.

“I want to say something before we say goodnight. Miki and I want to thank you all for making Ellie’s first Christmas a good one. She has no idea what Christmas is all about and I know that she is way too young to remember this Christmas but Miki and I will never forget it,” Urs said.

“Constantin took a lot of pictures so when she is old enough, you can show her the pictures from her first Christmas,” Eliane told him.

“I will make a scrapbook for her,” Constantin added.

“That would be great. Thanks dad,” Miki said with a smile.

“Well, it’s past midnight and I think it’s time for us to say goodnight. Tomorrow will be a long day for all of us,” Dara said.

“And to us it will also be a special day. Tomorrow the family will meet Ellie for the first time,” Miki added with a smile.

“They will love her just as much as we do,” Constantin hugged his daughter.

“I know they will,” Miki agreed.

A few minutes later they all went to their rooms to get a good night’s sleep. Miki was standing by the window when Urs emerged from the bathroom. He walked over to her and wrapped his arms around her.

“Are you worried about tomorrow?” Urs asked.

“A little. I love my sister but I’m afraid of how she will react to Ellie. You know how much she wants a baby and oh, I don’t know,” Miki sighed.

“She won’t kidnap our daughter if that is what you are afraid of,” Urs told her.

“How can you be so sure of that? She will do anything to get a baby,” Miki turned to look at him.

“Do you seriously think that she would do something like that?” Urs was shocked.

“I don’t know. Maybe not but I won’t let Ellie out of my sight tomorrow,” Miki said.

“Let’s get some sleep,” Urs suggested.

Miki nodded in agreement and they climbed into bed. Urs pulled Miki close and whispered to her that everything would be alright but deep down he was just as worried as she was. Miki’s youngest sister was a bit crazy and she would do anything to get what she wanted. He closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep.

Chapter 77

---- Los Angeles ----

"Good morning, beautiful. Breakfast is ready,” Carlos walked into the bedroom.

“What time is it?” Rebecca asked, letting out a yawn.

“It’s almost 9am,” Carlos sat down on the bed.

“Why didn’t you wake me up? Your parents and Antonio will be arriving in a few hours,” Rebecca said.

“I know they will be but you looked so peaceful and you need your beauty sleep,” Carlos leaned in for a kiss.

“Are you saying that I’m ugly?” Rebecca pulled back.

“No, that’s not what I’m saying. Your doctor says that everything is fine but you haven’t slept much in the last week and you need sleep. Not just for your sake but for our baby’s sake too,” Carlos replied.

“I know,” Rebecca kissed him.

“Let’s get some breakfast,” Carlos said.

Rebecca nodded her head in agreement and followed him to the kitchen where the couple enjoyed their breakfast.

---- LAX - Two hours later ----

Carlos and Rebecca were waiting for José, Consuela and Antonio to arrive. According to the screen, the plane had arrived on time and the passengers were waiting for their luggage. Antonio was the first one to step into the arrival hall, followed by José and Consuela. Hugs and kisses were exchanged and Consuela placed her hand on Rebecca’s belly.

“The baby is really growing,” Consuela said with a smile.

“I know it is and I feel like a blimp,” Rebecca sighed.

“You look beautiful,” Consuela hugged her.

“Thanks,” Rebecca smiled.

Carlos, Antonio and José grabbed the suitcases and the presents and they all left the airport. Antonio helped Carlos getting the suitcases and presents into the trunk of the car and the others climbed into the car. As they drove to the apartment, they shared news about family and friends.

Carlos and Rebecca had turned one of the guest rooms into a nursery so they only had one guest room available. Antonio would be staying with Carlos and Rebecca in the apartment and José and Consuela would be staying with Marianna and Roberto at their house.

“My parents will be arriving soon and then we will have a light lunch. After lunch we will decorate the tree and then we will relax before we have to start dinner. After dinner we go for a walk. How do you all feel about that?” Rebecca looked at them.

“I think we all like that idea,” Consuela looked at Antonio and José.

“Great. Now let’s go into the living room and relax,” Rebecca said.

Carlos went into the kitchen to get some drinks and he joined the others in the living room. He had just taken a seat on the couch when the doorbell rang. Carlos excused himself and disappeared into the hallway, returning shortly after with Marianna and Roberto. After exchanging hugs and kisses, they all enjoyed a light lunch.

After lunch, Carlos and Antonio picked up the tree while Rebecca, Consuela and Marianna found all of the decorations for the tree. When Carlos and Antonio returned, they all participated in decorating the tree.

After decorating the tree, they all sat down in the living room and shared news from Madrid and Los Angeles. Time went by really fast and before they knew it, it was time to start preparing dinner. The three women were busy in the kitchen and Consuela asked Carlos and Antonio to set the dining room table. Both of them got up and Carlos found the plates while Antonio found the wineglasses. It didn’t take long to set the table and after the job was done, they joined Roberto and José in the living room.

It was 7pm when they all gathered around the dining room table. The turkey smelled delicious and so did the rest of the food. The conversation during dinner was mostly about New Year’s Eve. Carlos and Rebecca wanted to throw a big party for friends and family and the Divos had already agreed to come.

“Will there be any single girls at the party?” Antonio asked.

“Why do you ask? I thought you were dating a girl in Madrid,” Carlos looked at Antonio.

“I was dating a girl but she fell in love with someone else. She told me that he was a lot older than her and I wondered what she wanted with an old man like him. I later found out that he had a lot of money and then it all made sense,” Antonio said.

“It sounds to me like you are better off without her. Sheena and I have got a lot of single girlfriends and I’m sure they would love to meet you,” Rebecca told him.

“If that is the case then you can count me in. I will be there,” Antonio promised.

“We will be there too if we can stay with Roberto and Marianna until after New Year’s,” José said as he looked at Roberto.

“You are more than welcome to stay with us and so are you,” Roberto looked at Antonio.

“Thank you,” Antonio said.

“What about clothes? Did you bring enough clothes to stay until after New Year’s?” Rebecca asked.

“Don’t worry about that. Consuela always packs clothes for at least two weeks no matter how long she will be away,” José answered with a smile.

“Well, you never know what will happen. This time it was a good idea to bring extra clothes,” Consuela defended herself.

“I’m married to a wise woman,” José kissed his wife.

“Some of us are still eating,” Antonio winked at him.

José started laughing and shortly after everyone was laughing. They finished their dinner and after the dishes were put away and the table had been cleared, they all went for a walk. José and Consuela had never celebrated Christmas in Los Angeles and Rebecca wanted them to experience what it was like.

After the tour, they returned to the apartment and Carlos offered them a drink. They spent the rest of the evening talking and laughing and it was past midnight when they said goodnight and went to bed.

Chapter 78

---- Denver ----

Jill Miller, David’s mom, looked at her children and grandchildren as they were having breakfast. It had been two years since the whole family had been together for Christmas and she just wanted to enjoy every minute of it.

John Miller, David’s older brother, had been involved in a motorcycle accident a few years back and it caused him to fall into a depression which became worse when his wife suddenly walked out on him. With the help of family, friends and therapy, John managed to get out of his depression and he was a new person. He was now in a relationship with Katherine, a single mom with two kids, and they were happy together.

Stella Miller, David’s older sister, had flown in from New York with her husband and their two children and his younger sister, Madeleine, had arrived from Canada where she is living with her husband and their two year old daughter.

“Are you ok, mom?” David asked Jill.

“Yes, I’m fine. I’m so happy that you’re all here for Christmas,” Jill replied with a smile.

“We’re all happy to be here,” John added.

The others agreed with John and Jill took her seat at the table and joined the family. After breakfast, they all gathered in the living room where the tree was. The adults all sat down and they watched the children as they decorated the tree. The older children helped the younger children and it was nice to see how well they all got along. The youngest grandchild was six months and the oldest was seven.

When the children had finished decorating the tree, they all went for a walk. The children wanted to go ice skating and they all ended up at the Southwest Rink at Skyline Park. David and John were having a good time on the ice with the children.

After spending a little over an hour skating, the group continued their walk and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. It was almost lunch time when they returned to the house and the women went into the kitchen to prepare some lunch.

“Katherine and I have got some news to share. We’re getting married,” John said as they were having lunch.

“That is good news and I’m so happy for both of you,” Jill got up and hugged both of them.

“Thanks. We don’t want a big wedding. Just a small wedding with our closest family and a few friends. We want to get married shortly after New Year’s and we were hoping to get married here, just like you and dad a long time ago,” John told her.

“I would be proud to host your wedding,” Jill said with a smile.

They continued to eat their lunch and of course the conversation during lunch was mostly about the upcoming wedding.

********

“What are you thinking of?” Maggie asked David when they were alone.

“I’m just thinking of John and how well he is doing. I went to see him last year at Christmas and he was just sitting in a chair, staring into thin air. It’s hard to believe that he has changed so much in twelve months. He is happier than he has ever been before,” David replied.

“I remember last year. I hardly recognized him when I went with you to see him. I’m happy that he is doing so well. He has met a great woman and the children love him like a father,” Maggie walked over to him.

“They certainly do. He deserves to be happy and I’m happy for him,” David turned and pulled Maggie close.

He kissed her deeply and Maggie returned the kiss. They broke the kiss when there was a knock on the door. David cursed as he walked to the door. He opened the door to see Madeleine standing there with a big smile on her face.

“I hope I’m not interrupting but mom wanted me to tell you that it’s time to start dinner,” Madeleine said with a smile.

“We will be right down,” David told her.

“Next time you might want to put a sign on the door,” Madeleine laughed.

“Get out of here,” David said with a smile.

“See you downstairs,” Madeline said and left.

“Sisters,” David rolled his eyes.

“Don’t say that. You’re lucky to have sisters and Madeleine is a sweetheart,” Maggie said.

“She certainly is and it’s really hard for me to get mad at her,” David agreed.

“I can tell. Now let’s go downstairs and help with dinner,” Maggie looked at him.

“Lead the way,” David smiled at her.

The living room was buzzing with activity as the children were playing games and the adults had all gathered in the kitchen. They enjoyed a glass of wine as they were cooking and everyone participated in cooking dinner. Jill asked the older children to help with setting the table and it didn’t take long for Madeline, Maggie and the children to set the table.

“The table looks beautiful. You all did a good job,” Jill said when she saw the table.

“Thanks but the children did most of it,” Maggie told her.

“It’s nice to have so many grandchildren but I wouldn’t mind having a few more,” Jill winked and left.

“I think that was meant for you because my daughter is only six months old and it’s too soon for us to have another baby,” Maggie looked at Madeleine.

“Well, it is Christmas and maybe Santa will give Jill what she wants,” Madeleine said.

“Oh my God. Are you?” Maggie was curious.

“Yes, I am but don’t tell anyone,” Madeleine answered with a smile.

“Don’t worry. I won’t tell anyone,” Maggie smiled back.

“Thanks. I’m so glad that you’re my sister-in-law,” Madeleine hugged Maggie.

“Me too,” Maggie said.

They returned to the kitchen and the food was almost ready so Jill told everyone to go upstairs and get ready for dinner. David took a quick shower and Maggie gave Victoria a bath. When David had gotten dressed, Maggie went into the bathroom to take a quick shower. When she returned to the bedroom to get dressed, David was waiting for her with Victoria in his arms. She looked so adorable in her outfit.

“Where did you find that?” Maggie asked as she got dressed.

“I found it on a website and I asked my mom to order it because I wanted it to be a surprise,” David replied.

“It’s so cute,” Maggie said with a smile.

“It sure is. Are you ready to celebrate Victoria’s first Christmas?” David looked at Maggie.

“I sure am,” Maggie said.

They went downstairs and joined the others in the dining room. The food was served and everyone was enjoying their Christmas dinner. After dinner they all gathered in the living room and it was past midnight when they went to bed.

Chapter 79

Christmas and New Years had passed and a new year had begun. The new year would be an exciting year for the Divos. In March they would begin recording the new album and baby Marin would make her or his appearance in May. Baby Izambard would make an appearance in July and in November the new album would be released, followed by a short promotion tour.

For Antonio, the trip to Los Angeles had been a really good one because he had fallen in love with a beautiful girl named Gabrielle. They had met at the New Year’s Eve party and it was love at first sight for both of them. Gabrielle or Gaby as she was called was half French and half American but she was born and raised in Los Angeles. She had known Rebecca and Sheena since kindergarten and the girls had always been there for each other.

Gaby’s mom had passed away and after her death, her dad became a completely different person. He kept to himself and he never spoke to anyone. The loss of his wife became too much for him and he killed himself a few months later. Within two months, Gaby had lost both of her parents and just before Christmas she had lost her job as an art teacher.

After losing her job, Gaby made a decision. She said goodbye to Los Angeles and moved to Paris to be close to her family. It was time to start a new life in Paris, far away from the memories.

*******

It was almost 5pm when Sheena pulled up in front of the mansion. It had been a long and emotional day for her because of the decision she had made earlier that day. As she walked to the front door, she wondered how Séb would take the news. She opened the door and was greeted by Amanda and Divo.

“Hi mommy,” Amanda hugged Sheena.

“Hi pumpkin. Is your dad here?” Sheena asked as she petted Divo’s head.

“Daddy is in the kitchen. He is making spaghetti and meatballs for dinner,” Amanda replied, licking her lips.

"Great. I can’t wait to taste it,” Sheena said.

“I promise you that it will be delicious. Just like me,” Séb walked into the hall

“Well, you are delicious,” Sheena smiled at him.

“I know I am,” Séb kissed her.

“Can I take a shower before we eat?” Sheena asked.

“Of course you can and you look like you need it. Bad day?” Séb wanted to know.

“I will tell you about it later,” Sheena replied and went upstairs.

“Is mommy ok?” Amanda asked Séb.

“Your mom is just tired sweetheart. Let’s finish dinner,” Séb said.

*******

*Charles De Gaulle Airport*

Gaby was happy when she saw that Antonio’s plane had landed on time. When they said goodbye in Los Angeles, Gaby had invited him to stay with her for a week once she got settled in Paris. That was two weeks ago and the time had come for Antonio to visit her.

Antonio had left the plane and was on his way to the baggage reclaim area to get his suitcase. There was a ten minute delay but it felt like an eternity. He couldn’t wait to see Gaby again and he hoped that she was feeling the same way.

It was fifteen minutes later when Antonio left the baggage reclaim area and walked into the arrival hall. He instantly spotted Gaby and the smile on her face told him that she was happy to see him. Antonio hurried over to her and picked her up before he placed a kiss on her lips.

“I’ve missed you so much,” Antonio said to her.

“Not as much as I’ve missed you. I suggest we go back to the apartment so you can take a shower and get dressed for dinner,” Gaby looked at him.

“I like your suggestion. Let’s go,” Antonio smiled as he took her hand.

*******

After her shower and getting dressed, Sheena went downstairs and joined her family in the kitchen. Once Sheena was in the kitchen, Amanda and Divo showed her a new trick they had been working on. Divo had learned to play dead and Amanda was proud of herself and Divo.

“Well done both of you,” Sheena said with a smile.

“Thanks mommy. Divo learns fast,” Amanda returned the smile.

Divo wagged his little tail and he ran over to Sheena. He was just about to jump up when Séb cleared his throat. Divo stopped and looked at Séb with a confused look on his face. The poor dog had no idea what he had done wrong and Sheena felt sorry for him.

“Come on,” Sheena gestured for Divo to jump up on her lap.

“Sheena Izambard!” Séb raised his voice.

“What?” Sheena looked at him.

“He will never learn to behave as long as we don’t agree on certain things. I don’t want him to jump up. It is a bad habit,” Séb said.

“I know you don’t want anything to happen to me or the baby but don’t take it out on Divo. He is just a puppy and him jumping up on my lap won’t hurt me or the baby,” Sheena told him, flashing her smile.

“I hate it when you do that,” Séb drained the pasta.

“I know and that’s why I do it. Can I help with anything?” Sheena rose from the chair.

“No, you can’t because everything is ready. Let’s eat,” Séb replied.

The family sat down and enjoyed a nice family dinner. Divo was in his bed, waiting for Amanda to finish her dinner so they could play a little before bedtime.

*******

“Welcome to my apartment. I’m sorry for the mess but I’m still unpacking. You can put your suitcase in the bedroom. Second door on your left,” Gaby told Antonio.

“Don’t you have a spare bedroom?” Antonio wanted to know.

“No, but you can sleep on the couch if you want to. It’s not very comfortable but it’s yours if you want it,” Gaby answered without looking at him.

“I’m sorry. I don’t want you to think that I don’t want to sleep in your bedroom but I don’t trust myself around you. I love you and I want to be with you but I don’t want you to feel like I’m taking advantage of you,” Antonio walked over to her.

“I know you wouldn’t. I feel the same way but nothing has to happen just because we sleep in the same bed. It will happen when the time is right. If the time is right tonight then it will happen tonight,” Gaby looked at him.

“I’m glad we agree. Now show me where the bathroom is so I can get ready for dinner,” Antonio pulled her close.

“Last door on the right,” Gaby said.

Antonio kissed her softly before he disappeared into the bathroom. Half an hour later they walked out of the apartment and went to Gaby’s favorite restaurant in Paris.

******

The Izambards were relaxing in the living room and Divo was sleeping on the couch next to Amanda. Friday evening was movie night and between 7pm and 9pm, it was Disney time. Amanda could pick a Disney movie but it had to be a different movie every Friday. They didn’t want to watch ‘Beauty and the Beast’ every Friday, so they had to make that rule.

Amanda had picked “Cinderella” but halfway through the movie she fell asleep and Séb had to carry her upstairs. Once Amanda was in her bed, Séb turned out the lights and left the bedroom. When he came downstairs, the TV was off and Sheena had made herself comfortable on the couch.

“What happened to movie night?” Séb asked as he joined her on the couch.

“Movie night is still on but we need to talk first,” Sheena replied.

“Ok. I’m listening,” Séb looked at her.

“I quit my teaching job today,” Sheena told him.

“Why did you do that? You love your job,” Séb was stunned.

“I do love the job but I’m not superwoman. I can’t work two jobs and take care of a baby. A baby and a job I can do but not a baby and two jobs. I’ve got a friend who needs the job more than I do and I have already recommended her to the school board. They will make their decision on Monday but I know that Gaby will get the job. If they don’t hire her then they are stupid,” Sheena explained.

“Does Gaby know about this?” Séb sipped his wine.

“No, and I don’t want her to know about it. She will know when they contact her and offer her the job,” Sheena answered with a smile.

“You are an amazing person,” Séb looked at her.

“Thanks, so are you. We do make a great couple,” Sheena said.

“Yes, we do. Now let’s see what’s on TV tonight,” Séb picked up the remote.

*******

“Would you like to meet my grandparents?” Gaby asked Antonio.

“Tonight?” Antonio looked at her.

“No, not tonight. My grandparents want to meet you and they have invited us for dinner tomorrow,” Gaby answered.

“I would love to meet them,” Antonio smiled at her.

“Great. What do you want to do now? Go back to the apartment or take a closer look at Paris?” Gaby looked at him.

“Go back to the apartment. I’m tired,” Antonio replied.

“Fine with me. We can go sightseeing tomorrow,” Gaby agreed.

They went back to Gaby’s apartment and made plans for sightseeing the next day. Antonio had been in Paris before but he never had time to go sightseeing so he wanted to see everything and Gaby was more than happy to show him Paris. It was close to midnight when they went to bed.

*******

It was midnight when Séb and Sheena went to bed. Sheena cuddled up to Séb and within five minutes she was sleeping. The moonlight softly caressed Sheena’s face and she looked so beautiful. Séb felt like the luckiest man on earth and he smiled to himself as he gently touched Sheena’s belly. His life was just as he had always wanted it to be. With a soft kiss to Sheena’s forehead, Séb closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep.

Chapter 80

Miki was standing by the window, thinking back on the events that had occurred during their trip back to Switzerland. Well, actually it was only one event that was on her mind; the event which included her youngest sister.

*Flashback*

“They are here,” Urs walked into the bedroom.

“Where is Ellie? Is she safe?” Miki asked him.

“Yes, she is safe and I don’t think you have to worry about your sister kidnapping her,” Urs closed the door.

“How can you say that? I’ve told you that she will do anything to get a baby,” Miki raised her voice.

“You’ve told me that but you really don’t have to worry about her stealing our baby or another baby for that matter,” Urs said.

“I don’t understand how you can be so calm when there is a psycho in the house right now. She could be planning how to kidnap Ellie right now and you are acting like you don’t care. What is wrong with you? Don’t you love our daughter?” Miki asked him.

“She is not planning how to kidnap Ellie and don’t you ever accuse me of not loving Ellie. I love Ellie with all my heart and I will do anything for her,” Urs replied with anger in his voice.

“Then why don’t you want to protect Ellie from my psycho sister downstairs?” Miki looked at him.

“Because she doesn’t need protection from your sister. Your sister is downstairs, holding a baby in her arms as we speak,” Urs walked over to her.

“So she stole another woman’s baby. That girl is out of control,” Miki felt her blood boiling.

“She didn’t steal the baby. The baby belongs to your sister and her husband,” Urs explained.

“Are you telling me that my sister is downstairs, holding a baby?” Miki looked at him.

“Yes, that is what I am telling you. A beautiful baby boy,” Urs replied.

“What? How?” Miki was confused.

“I will let your sister tell you all the details,” Urs laughed.

“I’m sorry for yelling at you and accusing you of not loving Ellie. I didn’t mean what I said. I know how much you love her,” Miki apologized, looking at the floor.

“I know you didn’t mean it and I forgive you. What you said was said in anger,” Urs touched her face.

“Thanks,” Miki smiled at him.

“Are you ready to meet your nephew?” Urs asked.

“Of course I am,” Miki answered with a big smile.

*End of flashback*

“Are you ok?” Urs walked up to Miki.

“I’m fine. I was just thinking of my sister’s Christmas present for all of us,” Miki turned to face him.

“It did come as a surprise but I understand why they didn’t tell us about the baby earlier. They wanted to be absolutely sure before they told anyone, just like David and Maggie did,” Urs said.

“I know. What time is it?” Miki asked.

“It’s time for us to get ready. They will be here in half an hour,” Urs replied as he pulled Miki close.

“Great. I will go first,” Miki kissed him and disappeared into the bathroom.

*******

“What are you working on?” Carlos walked into Rebecca’s home office.

“I’m just working on some new designs,” Rebecca replied.

“This looks like baby clothes,” Carlos picked up one of the drawings.

“It is baby clothes. Well, newborn to two year old. I thought of calling it ‘Divas and Divos’ or ‘Little Divas and Divos’. What do you think?” Rebecca looked at Carlos.

“I love the idea. What are you thinking? Small tuxes for the boys and ballgowns for the girls?” Carlos joked.

“That’s not a bad idea. ‘Divas and Divos Gold’. I like that,” Rebecca said.

“I was joking,” Carlos said.

“I know but I love the idea,” Rebecca smiled at him.

“So you want to make two lines of clothing?” Carlos asked her.

“Yes. Casual clothes and party clothes. I have so many ideas in my head and since the girls are taking care of the orders we have now, I will have time to draw new lines,” Rebecca explained.

“As long as you don’t work too hard,” Carlos sat down next to her.

“The baby is not due for four months but I promise not to work too hard,” Rebecca promised.

“Do you believe in flying pigs too?” Carlos laughed.

“As a matter of fact I do. Sheena and I have seen many flying pigs when we were younger and if you don’t believe me, then you should ask her,” Rebecca firmly stated.

“You’re kidding me, right?” Carlos looked at her.

“There is only one way to find out. Call Sheena and ask her,” Rebecca said.

Carlos picked up his phone and was about to dial Sheena’s number when Rebecca stopped him. She reminded him that it was after midnight in Paris and Carlos put down the phone.

“I really hate time zones,” Carlos said.

“Me too,” Rebecca agreed.

“I don’t feel like cooking tonight. What do you want for dinner? Chinese?” Carlos asked Rebecca.

“Chinese sounds good and you know what I like,” Rebecca licked her lips.

“Yes, I do,” Carlos wiggled his eyebrows.

“I was talking about Chinese food,” Rebecca said.

“So was I,” Carlos kissed her.

“What are you up to?” Rebecca looked at him.

“Isn’t it obvious?” Carlos rose from the chair, taking Rebecca’s hand.

Rebecca knew that she couldn’t resist Carlos’ Spanish charm so she rose from the chair and followed Carlos.

*********

Maggie was sitting in the living room, reading a book when she heard the doorbell. David wasn’t home and she knew that he wouldn’t be home until later in the evening so it couldn’t be him. She rose from the couch and walked into the hallway. Maggie opened the door and a young man’s face appeared.

“Is this David Miller’s home?” the young man asked.

“Yes, it is. I’m his wife, Maggie. Who are you?” Maggie asked.

“My name is Jason Saunders and I really need to talk to David Miller,” Jason replied.

“I’m sorry but my husband is not home at the moment and it might be a few hours before he comes home. Is it something I can help you with?” Maggie looked at Jason.

“No, not really. It is personal,” Jason explained.

“Oh, ok. Would you like to come in? I was just about to make dinner,” Maggie said.

“I don’t want to intrude,” Jason told her.

“You are not intruding. Come on in,” Maggie stepped aside.

“Thank you,” Jason walked into the hallway.

He removed his coat and Maggie showed him into the living room. She offered him something to drink and Jason asked for a soda. Maggie disappeared into the kitchen, returning a few seconds later with two sodas.

“How do you know my husband?” Maggie asked.

“I don’t know him but my mom and David were dating for a few weeks about fifteen years ago. My mom was offered a job in Australia and she couldn’t say no to the job, so she broke up with David and moved to Australia. She met a man, Mike Saunders, and after a few months of dating, they got married. And then I was born,” Jason said.

“So your mom and David were dating but I don’t understand why you are here,” Maggie said.

“My dad died six months ago and after his death, I had to go through all of his personal papers. I found some documents that clearly stated that my dad wasn’t my dad. When I asked my mom, she refused to talk about it. I continued to go through the papers and I found this letter,” Jason pulled out a letter.

Maggie took the letter and read it. Her eyes scanned the letter and she couldn’t believe what she was reading. She was shocked by the content of the letter and she didn’t know how to react or what to say. After reading the letter, she placed it on the table in front of her and looked at Jason.

“I can tell that you are shocked and I was shocked too when I read it,” Jason said.

“Is it possible that your mom is lying?” Maggie asked.

“Why would she lie to me about something as important as this?” Jason looked at Maggie.

“You’re right. I’m sorry. I guess it is just too much for me to deal with,” Maggie apologized to him.

“No need to apologize. I understand how you must feel,” Jason smiled at her.

“Thanks for understanding. Can I get you some more soda?” Maggie asked.

“No thanks. I’m staying with a friend and his parents are expecting me for dinner so I should probably leave,” Jason replied.

“Oh, ok. Would you mind if I show the letter to David?” Maggie wanted to know.

“Of course not,” Jason rose from the couch.

“Do you have a phone number where we can reach you in case David wants to meet you?” Maggie rose from the couch.

Jason gave Maggie his phone number before they walked into the hallway. He put on his coat and said goodbye to Maggie. After closing the door behind Jason, Maggie walked into the nursery to check on Victoria. The little girl was still sleeping peacefully so Maggie walked into the kitchen and poured herself a glass of wine. She walked into the living room and placed the wine on the table next to the letter. Maggie picked up the letter and read it again. Could this be true? Thoughts were running through her head and she was so deep into her own thoughts that she didn’t hear David when he came home. David walked into the living room and saw Maggie on the couch, holding a letter in her hand. She just stared at the letter and David was worried about her.

“Are you ok?” David walked over to the couch and sat down.

“I have a letter for you,” Maggie looked at him.

“For me? Who is it from?” David asked, picking up the letter.

“It’s from Michelle Saunders and I really think you should read it. I will start dinner,” Maggie said and rose from the couch.

“I don’t know anyone called Michelle Saunders,” David told her.

“You must know her,” Maggie said.

“What makes you say that?” David asked.

“She claims that you are the father of her fifteen year old son,” Maggie replied and disappeared into the kitchen.

David didn’t know what to say or how to react. He took a deep breath and decided to read the letter. As his eyes scanned the letter, he realized who Michelle was. He was stunned to say the least and he understood why Maggie had been staring at the letter when he walked in. David looked at the date on the letter and it was written a long time ago, so how did Maggie get her hands on it? He put the letter down and joined Maggie in the kitchen.

Chapter 81

“How did you get this letter?” David asked Maggie.

“Your son was here and he showed me the letter. He wanted to meet you,” Maggie replied without looking at David.

“Please don’t refer to him as my son,” David begged.

“But he is your son, David. He looks just like you,” Maggie turned to face him.

“That could be a coincidence,” David pointed out.

“It could but I don’t believe in coincidences,” Maggie firmly stated.

“I’m surprised of how well you are handling this. A fifteen year old boy knocks on the door and tells you that your husband is his father. Most women would be angry to hear such news,” David walked over to Maggie.

“What do you want me to say? That I’m angry? Fine! I’m angry and I’m hurt. My husband might be the biological father of a fifteen year old boy. Can you imagine how I feel, knowing that I’m the reason why we can’t have children of our own?” Maggie looked at him.

“We don’t know if he is my son and you don’t know if it’s your fault that we can’t have children,” David told her.

“If he is your son, then I am the problem,” Maggie said between sobs.

“It doesn’t have to be you. Maybe we’ve been trying too hard to become parents. I read an article a while ago about a couple who had been trying to get pregnant for years but nothing happened. They went to see their doctor because they wanted to know if something was wrong with them. The doctor told them that they were both fine but they should relax and not try so hard. Today they are the proud parents of twin girls,” David pulled her into his arms.

“You’re just saying that to make me feel better,” Maggie said.

“No, I’m not. I can show you the article if you don’t believe me,” David told her.

“You need to find out if Jason is your son,” Maggie looked up at him.

“I know. I’m ready to get tested and I hope that he is too,” David said.

“He is ready. He wants to know if you’re his father because apparently his mother is refusing to tell him anything. His number is on the coffee table,” Maggie explained.

“I will call him right now. What if he is my son? What will happen then?” David looked at her.

“We will welcome him with open arms. He seems like a really nice boy,” Maggie said.

“I love you,” David kissed her and disappeared into the living room.

---- A week later -----

The day had come for David and Jason to find out if they were father and son. Jason hadn’t slept at all and David had been awake several times during the night. They were yawning as they waited for the results.

“Are you nervous?” David asked Jason.

“Yes, I am. What about you?” Jason looked at him.

“I’m not nervous at all,” David replied.

“You’re kidding me, right?” Jason was a bit stunned.

“Of course I’m kidding. I’m terrified. Last year one of the other guys found out that he had a five year old daughter and now I’m here, waiting to find out if I have a fifteen year old son,” David answered.

Before Jason could say anything, the doctor emerged from his office and asked Jason and David to follow him. Both took deep breaths as they rose from their chairs and followed the doctor. He gestured for them to sit down as he walked to his desk and sat down.

“It’s the moment of truth,” David said, looking at Jason.

“It sure is,” Jason agreed, taking another deep breath.

“Is he my son, doctor?” David asked.

Without saying anything, the doctor opened the folder on the table and took out a piece of paper. Still without a word, he handed the document over to David. David took a deep breath before he looked at the paper. Jason looked at David but he was unable to read anything from the expression on David’s face.

“Could you please say something. Are you my dad?” Jason asked.

David just sat there, staring at the paper in his hand. His eyes scanned the document over and over and Jason was getting a bad feeling. Was David thinking of a way to tell him that they were not father and son or was he thinking of a way to tell him that they were father and son. The suspense was killing Jason so he repeated his question.

“Are you my dad?” Jason asked again.

----- Paris -----

“I can’t believe that you’re going home tomorrow,” Gaby sighed.

“I’m not,” Antonio said with a smile.

“”What?” Gaby was shocked.

“I’ve extended my stay in Paris because I want to spend some time with my girlfriend. If she wants me to stay of course,” Antonio informed her.

“Your girlfriend wants you to stay,” Gaby smiled at him.

“I’m pleased to hear that. It’s time for us to get ready for dinner with Sheena and Sébastien,” Antonio looked at his watch.

“Yes, we can’t be late for that,” Gaby agreed.

“I can’t believe that she gave up her job for you,” Antonio said.

“She didn’t give up her job for me. Yes, she did resign and she did recommend me for the job but Séb told me that she gave up her teaching job because having two jobs and raising a baby would be too much for her,” Gaby explained.

“Well, I still think it was a great thing to do,” Antonio said with a smile.

“I agree with you. Sheena is a great friend and not a lot of people would do what she did. I want to do something special for her,” Gaby told him.

“Maybe you could do a baby shower? I’m sure she would love that,” Antonio suggested.

“That’s a good idea,” Gaby smiled at him.

“I know. Do you want to go first?” Antonio pointed at the bathroom.

“No. I need to figure out what to wear,” Gaby replied.

Antonio turned and went into the bathroom. When he emerged fifteen minutes later, Gaby had found a dress to wear. She took a quick shower and forty minutes later they left the apartment.

*********

Séb and Sheena were getting ready to leave the mansion. Amanda had just been picked up by one of her friends from school and she wouldn’t be back until Sunday afternoon. She would be spending the night at her friend’s house and then Camille would pick her up and take her back to her house until Sunday afternoon.

Sheena didn’t know that Amanda would be gone all weekend. It was something that Séb had arranged because he wanted to spend some private time with Sheena. He was concerned about her because she had been working long hours lately and she looked really tired when she came home from work. Séb wanted to pamper her and he had the whole weekend planned for the two of them.

Soon after they were on their way to dinner. Antonio and Gaby were standing outside the restaurant when Séb and Sheena arrived. After greeting each other, they walked into the restaurant and Gaby  gave her name to the hostess. She informed them that someone would be with them soon to show them to their table.

A young man arrived a few minutes later and he escorted them to their table. He briefly introduced himself and informed them that he would be their waiter for the evening. After his introduction, he informed them of the specials on the menu before he asked them what they wanted to drink. They ordered a bottle of wine and a coke for Sheena.

“Why did you invite us to dinner?” Sheena asked.

“I wanted to say thank you for recommending me for the job as art teacher. I will start on Monday,” Gaby replied with a big smile.

“You’re welcome and congratulations,” Sheena smiled at her.

“Thanks. I can’t wait to teach again,” Gaby said.

“I know you will do a great job and the students are very talented,” Sheena informed her.

“Won’t you miss it?” Gaby asked.

“Maybe a little but I think I will be too busy to think about it. I’ve got an exhibition to plan and I’ve been working a lot lately,” Sheena answered.

“You shouldn’t work so hard,” Antonio said.

“That’s what I’ve been telling her but she doesn’t listen,” Séb told him.

“I’m pregnant, not sick. The last time I was pregnant, I worked full time until a month before Amanda was born. I know you’re concerned about my health but I will be fine,” Sheena looked at Séb.

“I’ve learned not to argue with you but promise me that you will slow down once the exhibition is over,” Séb said.

“I promise to slow down as soon as the exhibition is over,” Sheena promised.

“Good,” Séb smiled at her.

The waiter returned with their drinks and after taking their orders, he walked away and they continued to talk.

“When are you going back to Spain?” Sheena asked Antonio.

“Next week. I decided to extend my vacation because I want to spend some more time with my lovely girlfriend,” Antonio kissed Gaby’s cheek.

“You two make the perfect couple,” Sheena said with a smile.

“So do you,” Gaby smiled back.

“I will drink to that,” Séb raised his glass.

They all raised their glasses and shortly after the waiter returned with their food. They enjoyed their dinner and they had a great time. It was past 10pm when they left the restaurant and said goodbye to each other.

----- Denver ----

“Did you get the result?” Maggie asked when David and Jason walked in.

“Yes, we did,” David replied.

“And do you want to share that information with me?” Maggie looked at them.

“Jason is my son,” David answered.

“I need to sit down for moment,” Maggie sat down on the couch.

“Listen, I don’t want to cause any problems between the two of you so I will just walk out of the door and you will never see me again,” Jason said.

“You don’t have to leave. You’re David’s son which means that you are a part of the family and you’re welcome to stay with us for as long as you want. We do have a guestroom and it is yours if you want it. What do you say?” Maggie looked at Jason.

“I accept your offer,” Jason said with a smile.

“Good. David can show you to the room and I will prepare some lunch for us as soon as I’ve changed Victoria’s diaper,” Maggie told him.

“Can I change her diaper?” Jason asked.

“Of course you can. Second door on the right,” Maggie answered.

“Thanks,” Jason said and walked to the nursery.

“Thank you,” David pulled Maggie close.

“Don’t thank me. He is your son and he is a nice boy. It doesn’t sound like his mom cares about him and he needs a family,” Maggie looked at David.

“You’re right but I still say thank you,” David kissed her.

David let go of Maggie and walked down the hall to the nursery. Jason came out of the nursery with Victoria in his arms and David showed him to the guestroom. They joined Maggie in the kitchen and they all enjoyed their lunch.

Chapter 82

----- A month later -----

The past month had been emotional for David, Maggie and Jason. A phone call to Australia had turned the Miller’s world upside down. It all started when Jason received the test result and decided to call his mom. Melissa had refused to tell him anything before he left for Denver but Jason hoped that once he had the proof in his hand, Melissa would answer all of his questions.

***** Flashback *****

“Hello,” Melissa answered the phone.

“Hi mom. It’s me. Are you ok? You sound a bit strange,” Jason was concerned.

“I’m fine. Why do you even care? You left me,” Melissa snapped.

“I care because you are my mom and I love you. And I didn’t leave you. I just wanted to meet my dad,” Jason said.

“Mike was your dad. He raised you and he was always there for you. Mike gave you everything and he loved you like you were his own son. You should be grateful for that,” Melissa raised her voice.

“I am grateful,” Jason told her.

“If you are grateful for what Mike did then why did you go to Denver?” Melissa wanted to know.

“I asked you about the letter but you refused to talk about it. Going to Denver was the only way for me to find out if David Miller was my dad,” Jason replied.

“Oh, so this is my fault? It is my fault that you left me?” Melissa asked.

“I didn’t leave you. I will be back in Australia before you know it,” Jason promised.

“Don’t bother coming back. You have betrayed me and you have betrayed Mike. I don’t want to see you again. You are no longer my son,” Melissa hung up.

Jason was staring at the phone in his hand and he was shocked. Maggie walked into the living room and she could tell that something wasn’t right. She walked over to Jason and she took the phone from him.

Maggie asked him what was wrong and Jason told her what Melissa had told him. Tears were running down Jason’s cheeks and Maggie could feel her own heart breaking. How could a mother tell her son that he wasn’t welcome? Maggie pulled Jason into her arms and told him that everything would be fine.

David walked into the living room and Maggie explained to him what had happened. David was furious and he instantly called Melissa. She told him the same thing that she had told Jason, adding that now that Jason had found his dad, he could take care of him. Melissa ended the conversation by saying that David would hear from her lawyer soon.

About a week later, David received a letter from Melissa’s lawyer in which Melissa gave full custody of Jason to David.

-------------------------------

In the month that had passed, Rebecca had been working on the designs for the baby clothes and she had received a special request for a Christening gown. While Rebecca had been working, Carlos had been busy with the nursery. After a visit to the doctor, they had found out if they were expecting a boy or a girl and now that they knew, it was easier for them to decorate the nursery.

**** Flashback ****

“I can’t believe that today is the day. Do you think it’s a boy or a girl?” Rebecca asked Carlos.

“I think it’s a girl. A girl with your beautiful eyes and my charm. What do you think?” Carlos looked at her.

“I have no idea. I will be happy no matter what,” Rebecca told him.

“So will I but I still hope it’s a girl. Time to leave,” Carlos said.

Rebecca and Carlos put on their coats and left the apartment. They climbed into the car and drove off to see the doctor.

“Are you nervous?” Carlos asked as he stopped the car.

“No, I’m not nervous but I am excited,” Rebecca told him.

“So am I. Are you ready?” Carlos looked at her.

“Yes, I’m ready,” Rebecca answered with a smile.

They got out of the car and walked into the clinic where they were greeted by the secretary. She sent them a big smile and asked if they were excited. Both Carlos and Rebecca told her yes. The secretary asked them to take a seat and informed them that the doctor would be there shortly. Five minutes had passed when the doctor came out and called their names. The doctor greeted them and showed them into his office.

“How are you feeling?” the doctor asked Rebecca.

“I’m feeling good. No problems at all,” Rebecca replied.

“That’s good. Well, let’s find out if you’re expecting a boy or a girl. I assume you still want to know if it’s a boy or a girl?” the doctor looked at them.

“Yes, we do,” Carlos answered.

“Good. Well, you know what to do,” the doctor said to Rebecca.

Rebecca knew exactly what to do and it didn’t take long before everything was ready. Both Rebecca and Carlos stared at the screen and they were just waiting for the doctor to speak. After a while, the doctor turned to them.

“Are you sure that you want to know the answer?” he asked.

“Positive,” Rebecca replied with a smile.

“Good. Take a good look at the screen and I will tell you what I see,” the doctor said.

Ten minutes later, Carlos and Rebecca left the clinic and both of them were excited. They now knew if they were expecting a boy or a girl and they couldn’t wait to tell their families. As soon as they walked into their apartment, they made some phone calls to their families.

**** End of flashback ****
--------------------------------------------

Sheena and Séb had spent the past month looking at color schemes and furniture for their baby. Yes, the baby wasn’t due for another five months but it couldn’t hurt to look and get ideas for a nursery. The two of them had finally agreed on colors and furniture for their little one. Since they didn’t know if the baby was a boy or a girl, they decided to use a color that would fit both. However, a visit to the doctor had changed everything.

**** Flashback ****

It was time for another check up and the Izambards were getting ready for the doctor’s appointment. Sheena was staring at herself in the mirror when Séb walked into the bedroom. She had been doing that every morning in the last few days and Séb was getting worried.

“What are you doing?” he asked.

“I look like a big, fat whale. Look at how big I am,” Sheena replied.

“You’re pregnant and I think you look beautiful,” Séb walked over to her.

“I’m four months pregnant and I’m bigger than I was at four months the last time,” Sheena said.

“Maybe this baby is just bigger. I’m sure that you’re fine. We are running late. Are you ready to leave?” Séb asked.

“I’m ready,” Sheena replied.

--- Twenty minutes later ----

Séb parked the car and they walked into the clinic where they were greeted by the secretary. She told them that the doctor would see them soon as she gestured for them to take a seat. Séb and Sheena did as she instructed and the doctor arrived five minutes later.

“How are you feeling today?” doctor Delon asked Sheena.

“I’m feeling fine but I seem to be a lot bigger than I was at four months when I was expecting Amanda,” Sheena answered.

“The human body is strange but I’m sure there is a good explanation. You know the procedure,” Dr. Delon said.

Sheena laid down and Dr. Delon got everything ready for the ultrasound. Once everything was ready, he began the ultrasound. He began to explain what he saw on the screen but suddenly he stopped. Séb asked him if everything was fine and Dr. Delon replied that he had found the reason why Sheena seemed to be bigger. He asked Séb and Sheena to take a closer look at the screen and he explained his findings to them.

Dr. Delon watched as the looks on their faces changed from shock to excitement. He congratulated them and asked Sheena to take care of herself until the next check up. Séb and Sheena thanked him and left the clinic. They walked to the car and drove back to the mansion. Amanda was spending the night at Camille’s place and Séb quickly made plans for a romantic night with dinner and dancing in front of the fireplace. It was his way of saying thank you for the precious gifts that she was carrying.

***** End of flashback *****

-----------------------------------------

Urs and Miki had spent the past month planning Ellie Grace’s Christening. A Christening was a special event and they wanted everything to be perfect. Since they both believed that a Christening should be a private event for family and really close friends only, they had booked a small venue not far from the apartment. The only problem they had encountered was the Christening gown. They had found a lot of gowns but the gowns were not right for Ellie Grace. She was special and she needed a special gown.

***** Flashback *****

“What do you think about this one?” Miki pointed at a Christening gown.

“It’s a pretty gown but not for Ellie,” Urs voiced his opinion.

“I agree. I never thought that it would be so difficult to find a Christening gown,” Miki let out a sigh.

“We will find a gown,” Urs promised.

“I hope so. I just had an idea. Do you think Rebecca would be interested in designing a Christening gown for Ellie?” Miki looked at Urs.

“We could ask her,” Urs said and called Rebecca.

Urs explained the situation to Rebecca and Rebecca didn’t hesitate before she said yes. She had never designed a Christening gown before but she couldn’t say no to a challenge. Rebecca told him that she would draw up some sketches and bring them over the next day.

“What did she say?” Miki asked Urs.

“She said yes and she will bring over some sketches tomorrow,” Urs told Miki.

“That’s great. I’m sure she will come up with some great designs so now I can relax” Miki said.

The next day Rebecca brought over some sketches as agreed and it didn’t take long for Urs and Miki to choose a design for Ellie Grace. Rebecca told them that she would get started right away and she promised to have he dress ready for the Christening. She said goodbye and left.

“The designs were great,” Miki looked at Urs.

“Yes, they were. Rebecca is very talented,” Urs agreed.

“We are all very talented,” Miki pointed out.

“That’s true. You are all very talented,” Urs kissed her.

“And we are all beautiful,” Miki added.

“I can’t argue with that. We are four lucky men,” Urs smiled at her.

“Yes, you are,” Miki agreed.

“Is that all you have to say?” Urs asked.

“No. We are four lucky women. We have the best husbands in the world,” Miki replied

“Yes, but of the four of us, I’m the best husband,” Urs told her.

“I agree with you but I doubt the other girls will,” Miki laughed.

Urs laughed too and they spent the rest of the day going over the plan for the Christening.
