The Perfect Assistant

Copenhagen - Denmark

Stephanie Petersen sat in front of her laptop, staring at the email screaming back at her:

‘We are sorry to inform you that the job has been assigned to another applicant. We thank you for your interest and wish you all the best in your job hunt’.

After printing the email, she put it on top of the pile next to her laptop. Three months of job hunting and no call backs, no interviews, no nothing; only emails telling her the same thing. She was starting to doubt she would ever get a job, and thought that she would soon have to move back in with the two people she spent years trying to gain independence from; her parents. She loved her parents very much, but moving back home at the age of 29 was not an option. If she had to sweep sidewalks or clean stairs to stay independent, so be it.

Sitting down on the couch, and watching her favorite Hugh Jackman movie, she wondered if she should call her best friend, Samantha, for advice? Not knowing Sam’s new number by heart, Stephanie logged onto the Official Forum of her favorite group, Il Divo. She hadn’t been logged in 2 minutes when Sam sent her a P.M.

It was named: ID and JOB READ NOW!!!!!

"Hmm, what is she going on about?" Stephanie opened her friends P.M

Hey Steph!
Sam here
Did you read the Home Page yet?!?!??
IL DIVO is looking for an assistant!!!!!!
That could be you!
Don’t you shake your head at my PM!

"How does she know I am shaking my head?" Stephanie blinked her eyes then returned to reading the message

Because I am your best friend!

Now go apply!
And if you get it, I get to come!!!
Yep, you know how I feel about Carlos!!!
Love ya!

Stephanie looked at the PM and she read it over and over. A job with IL DIVO! Well, it couldn’t hurt to try. She looked at the home page and found the announcement. After reading it a few times, she wrote the application and attached it to an e-mail. She looked at the e-mail and took a deep breath.

“Well, here goes nothing,” she hit enter on the keyboard.

A few minutes later she wrote a PM back to Sam:

Hi Sam
Application sent.
And of course I will take you with me. I’m too chicken to face IL DIVO alone!
Love ya!

All she could do now was to wait for an answer, and hopefully it would be the answer she had been waiting to hear for the last three months.

Chapter 1

Copenhagen, Denmark

A week had passed since Stephanie applied for the job with IL DIVO, but she still hadn’t heard anything. Working for IL DIVO would be a dream job for her; travel around the world, meet new people and visiting foreign countries. But it would almost be too good to be true if she got the job. She was sure there had to be a lot of people applying in England, so why would they choose a girl from a small country like Denmark? On the other hand, she was single and the apartment wasn’t hers, so she could easily move to London if needed.

Just as she was about to open her laptop, her phone started ringing. The caller ID said Mark, and he was the last person she wanted to talk to. After being together for thirteen years, nine of them married, Mark had ended the relationship without giving her a reason, and she couldn’t figure out what she had done wrong. She thought everything was ok between them but Mark obviously didn’t see it like that. Closing her eyes, she thought back to the day that still seemed like a bad dream.

“I’ve been invited to London to see my friend,” Stephanie told Mark.

“That sounds like a good idea. I think you should go,” he said. Stephanie was surprised to hear him say that, especially since he had always been against her going anywhere on her own.

“Great. I will book the flight right now,” she smiled at him. After booking her flight, she told her friend when she was coming and they couldn’t wait to meet each other.

A week later, Stephanie was on a plane to London. It was her first time in London but she was looking forward to it. Her friend met her at London Victoria train station and they instantly hit it off. They were talking and laughing, just two friends having a great time. It seemed like they had known each other forever, even though they had only known each other for a couple of weeks.

Four days later, Stephanie was back in Denmark but things were not the same. When she walked into the house she shared with Mark, she could feel that something was wrong. Mark was in front of his computer and he didn’t say one word to Stephanie. He didn’t even ask if her trip went well. Without saying a word, Stephanie went to bed. The next morning, Mark still didn’t say anything. If Stephanie tried to start a conversation, he would only reply with yes or no. Both of them spent all morning and afternoon in front of their computers without saying a word to each other.

Stephanie had just put a chicken in the oven when Mark walked into the living room with his keys in his hand. After all those years together, Stephanie knew that look in his eyes. He wanted to say something but he wasn’t the kind of person who was good at explaining his feelings. In his world you didn’t talk about feelings.

“Where are you going?” she asked him.

“I’m going to work,” he replied without looking at her.

“But you’re not supposed to go to work until 9pm, and it’s only 7pm. What about dinner?” she wanted to know.

“I’m not hungry. I can’t do this anymore. Is there a chance that you can stay at your parent’s house for a few days?” he asked her.

Stephanie was stunned. Where did this come from? Why was he asking her this? What had she done to make him say that? She couldn’t think of anything that would have made him react like this. Ok, they did have problems like other couples, but nothing that would lead to this. Sometimes Mark was just one big mystery, and she had been trying to figure him out for a long time.

“I guess so. I will pack a bag tonight and go there after work tomorrow,” she told him.

“Good,” he said and left the house.

As soon as he was gone, Stephanie picked up the phone and looked at it. She knew what would happen when she dialed the number, and she wasn’t ready for that but she had no other choice. Stephanie took a deep breath before dialing her parents’ number. Deep down she hoped that they weren’t home, but she wasn’t that lucky.

“Hello, honey, what’s up?” her mom asked in a cheerful voice.

“Can I stay with you for a few days?” she asked.

“Of course you can but why? What is wrong?” her mom enquired, wanting to know.

“I don’t know what’s wrong. Mark just left and asked me to stay with you for a few days. I don’t want to talk about this now. Can we talk about it tomorrow?” Stephanie asked.

“Of course we can. When will you be here?” her mom asked.

“I will be there after work. See ya tomorrow,” Stephanie said and hung up.

Stephanie had dinner alone that evening, and after dinner she packed a bag. The next morning she left for work, and then drove to her parent’s house afterwards. The minute she walked through the door, the questions started coming. She told her mom that she had no idea what was going on, but her mom kept asking the same questions over and over. Stephanie was about to leave when her dad stepped in and told her mom to stop asking questions.

She spent the last two weeks in May at her parent’s house and it was the longest two weeks ever. Moving back home at the age of 29 was really not a good idea. At work she tried to pretend like everything was ok, but everyone could see that something was wrong. They were all shocked when she finally confessed, and they all wanted to help her. Thanks to one of the guys at work she managed to get an apartment and she could start a new life. She moved into the new apartment in June, and it was great.

In July she got the answer to why Mark wanted her out of his life. He had posted pictures on Facebook; pictures of a vacation in Greece. Mark was in the pictures with a girl and suddenly everything became clear to Stephanie. Mark and her split up in May and in the beginning of July he posted pictures of a three week vacation in Greece with his new girlfriend. Who goes on a three week vacation with a girl they’ve known for about a month?

She thought back to his behavior during the last five months. He had changed a lot but she didn’t notice at the time. The signs were all there, she just didn’t see them. To Stephanie it seemed like Mark had been seeing this girl for a long time but she chose not to dig any deeper. When she thought about it, she hadn’t had any feelings for him for a long time. She was only with him because she was afraid of being alone.

*End of flashback*

Mark kept calling her but she didn’t answer. After about ten minutes he gave up and Stephanie let out a sigh of relief. Why was he trying to contact her now? He made it very clear that he didn’t want to be with her, so why keep calling her?

Stephanie kept checking her email but there was still no word about the job. Patience wasn’t one of her strengths and this was getting really annoying. She was tired of waiting by the computer, so she logged off and decided to go out and enjoy the sun.

As she walked through the streets of her hometown, she met a few friends and they decided to grab a cup of coffee. Stephanie and her friends were having a great time, and Stephanie told them about the job with IL DIVO.

“That is so cool. I hope you get it. You need to get away from this place, and as soon as possible. Imagine traveling around the world with IL DIVO,” Louise said with a dreamy look in her eyes.

“Yes, it would be great but with my luck, I won’t get the job. I wasn’t born under a lucky star. Just look at my life,” Stephanie told her.

“You’ve had some bad luck lately, but you’ve managed to get back on your feet. What happened with Mark has made you stronger and you just have to stay positive,” Laila told her.

“I know that, but it’s just not that easy,” Stephanie let out a sigh.

“Don’t let this get you down. You are stronger than you think. Now, let’s have a good time and not worry about anything,” Laila said.

“I agree. If Stephanie gets the job, it might be our last chance to have some fun. Why don’t we meet for dinner at ‘Bono Steak House’?” Julia suggested.

“Sounds like a good idea,” Stephanie replied, with a smile.

“Ok. I will make the arrangements and we all meet at ‘Bono Steak House’ at seven pm,” Julia confirmed.

They all agreed, and after an hour they all went home to get ready for dinner.

After having her shower and getting dressed, Stephanie checked her emails to see if there was a reply, but there wasn’t. She was a bit disappointed when she closed the computer. Why didn’t they get back to her? Well, she was not letting this ruin her night with her friends. Stephanie put on her jacket and picked up her purse before leaving her apartment.

Her friends were already at ‘Bono Steak House’ when she arrived. She knew it would be a great night, and maybe it would be her last chance to be with her friends. It might be their last chance to have some fun, and she wanted to enjoy every minute of it.

“Still no reply?” Laila asked as Stephanie sat down.

“No, but I don’t want to talk about that anymore. Let’s have some fun,” Stephanie picked up the menu and looked at it.

The girls had a great evening and it was late before Stephanie returned home. She wanted to check on her emails before bedtime, but she chose not to. After getting ready for bed, she got into bed and drifted off to sleep.

Chapter 2

London, England

It was two am in the morning, in London, when Sébastien Izambard was standing by the window, looking out onto the street below. Ever since their former PA had left without a word, he hadn’t been able to sleep. It had been two weeks and he didn’t know how much longer he could do this. He knew the other guys were tired of him, but how could they know how he felt? They were not the ones who had fallen head over heels in love with Melissa. They weren’t the ones who had been dumped without a warning. Ok, in a way they had been dumped by her, but it was a different situation.

He let out a sigh as he walked into the kitchen to make himself some coffee. As the coffee was brewing, he thought about the meeting with Simon Cowell later that day. Simon wanted to drop by to discuss the new PA, and Séb didn’t want to have that meeting. He couldn’t see any point in getting a new PA. As far as he was concerned, PA’s caused nothing but problems for everyone. There was no way that he would accept a new PA unless it was a male PA. That way he didn’t have to worry about getting his heart broken again. If it happened again.

After getting his coffee, he walked downstairs to the music room. The Divos lived in the same building, but they each had their own apartment. The apartments were located on the first floor and the music room was on the ground floor along with a game room. Séb walked into the music room and sat down by the piano. He picked up a piece of paper and looked at it. It was a song called Never Again, and it was a song about a man who, after being dumped by the love of his life, decides never to fall in love again. Yes, it was a song about him, and he would never let a woman into his life again.

Séb woke up when he felt someone poking him. He opened his eyes to see his brothers standing next to him. It seemed like he had fallen asleep in front of the piano again, and he knew by their looks that they were getting tired of it. He couldn’t blame them, but at least he wasn’t drinking. They should at least be happy about that.

“What’s up, guys?” Séb asked them.

“Simon will be here soon. Don’t you think it’s time for you to clean up?” David Miller, the American asked him.

“Why should I? The tour has not started yet, so I can do whatever I want,” Séb replied, as he got up and walked out of the room.

“We have to do something about him. This is getting really annoying.” Carlos Marin, a Spaniard told Urs Buhler from Switzerland and David.

“You’re right about that. He doesn’t want to do anything with us anymore. No matter what we do, he just walks in here and writes songs,” replied Urs.

“Hopefully it will change when the tour starts,” David told them as he sat down.

Carlos and Urs joined him by the table and they talked about Simon’s plan about letting them choose their new PA. Hopefully they could agree on someone, but they knew that Séb would do whatever he could to make it difficult. He had made it very clear that he didn’t want a new PA, but they couldn’t do everything on their own.

What happened with Melissa could have happened to all of them. When Melissa walked into Simon’s office for the first time, it was like time stood still. She had long, blonde hair and blue eyes. Her outfit showed her curves, and the guys had a hard time focusing on the meeting. Simon had no other choice but to ask her to leave until the meeting was over. Melissa agreed and she walked out of the office with a big smile on her face.

Melissa never had any problems finding a man. She was a beautiful woman, and everyone wanted to go out with her. The job as PA for Il Divo wasn’t her dream job, but it would help her get what she wanted most in life; money and fame. Three of the Divos were all single at the time, and she didn’t really care which one she would get. They were all handsome, and she would just choose the one who made the first move. That person was Séb, and Melissa didn’t hesitate to say yes when he asked her out. Séb did whatever he could to make her happy, and it was a big shock to him when she disappeared without a word six months later.

“Could you please stop talking about me and Melissa?” Séb walked into the room.

“Sorry! How long have you been standing there?” David asked as he looked at the others.

“Long enough! I don’t want to hear that name again!” he informed them, as he pulled out a chair and sat down.

“Ok, no problem.” David said.

A silence filled the room. They didn’t know what to say to each other, and they all hoped that Simon would show up soon. The silence was interrupted by a knock on the door, and all four Divos let out a sigh when they heard Simon’s voice. He came into the music room and greeted the guys before sitting down.

“I’m in a hurry, so let’s get this thing over with. I want you guys to take a look at these applications and tell me which one you would choose as your new PA,” Simon said as he handed them some papers.

The guys looked at the applications, and it didn’t take Séb long to find his favorite. He put the application in front of Simon before walking out of the room. Simon looked at the paper and it didn’t come as a big surprise that Séb had picked the only male applicant. David, Carlos and Urs each picked out two people and a smile appeared on his face when he saw the names. One applicant had been picked by all three of them, and that was the same person Simon had chosen for the job. He knew he might change his opinion after the interviews, but for now this person was the best one for the job.

“I hope you guys will be there Tuesday. The first interview is at ten am in my office,” Simon told them as he put the applications back in his briefcase.

“We will be there. Hopefully Séb won’t cause any problems,” Carlos said.

“I am still here, Carlos,” Séb informed them with anger in his voice.

“Sorry, but we all know that you don’t want a new PA. We won’t let you do anything stupid,” Carlos said to him.

“Well, I’ve been thinking about it. I don’t mind getting a new PA as long as it’s a man,” Séb sat down and looked at his friends.

“I can’t promise you that, Séb. I have to pick whoever is best for the job. We will know more on Tuesday,” Simon pointed out.

“Guess we just have to wait and see what happens,” Séb said.

“Yes. I have to leave now. I will see you Tuesday. Don’t be late,” Simon warned as he stood and walked out of the room.

“So, what are the plans for today?” David turned to his friends..

“I am having lunch with Alyssa and her parents,” Urs said with a smile.

“Oh, you’re meeting the in-laws today. That’s exciting,” Carlos teased his friend.

“Stop it, Carlos! We have to make plans for our wedding. I know what you are thinking, but I love Alyssa,” Urs said.

“Listen to yourself, Urs. She is a woman, and women are trouble. If you want to throw your life away for a woman, then be my guest. I need some air,” Séb walked out of the room.

The other guys looked at each other without saying anything. The look on Urs’ face said it all. He was mad and they couldn’t blame him. They knew that Séb was still hurting but they never expected him to talk like that to Urs. They were friends, and Séb should be happy for Urs. Alyssa Richardson was a wonderful girl, and she was very much in love with Urs. They had been together for six years, and Urs had finally found the courage to ask her to marry him.

“I have to go. See you guys later,” Urs informed them, before he went walking out of the music room.

“That went well,” David said looking at Carlos.

“The tour is starting soon. This is not good at all,” Carlos said.

“I know. Let’s hope things will be better soon. We are friends and brothers,” David said.

“Yes, we are,” Carlos agreed as they walked into the game room.

Chapter 3

Stephanie’s apartment, Copenhagen – same day

Stephanie woke up to the sound of the alarm. She wanted to stay in bed all day, but staying in bed would not get her a job, and that was her main priority right now. Stephanie let out a yawn before getting out of bed. The sun was shining, and it looked like it would be a beautiful day. As the coffee was brewing, she took a shower and got dressed for the day. After putting on her make-up, she sat down and enjoyed her breakfast.

She didn’t have any plans for the day, but shopping was an option. If she got the job working for IL DIVO, then she would need new clothes. Yes, the odds were not that good, but it couldn’t hurt to be prepared. Stephanie was just about to dial her friend’s number when the phone started ringing. The caller ID said unknown, and unknown usually meant a sales person with a good offer. She hated those, but they never called in the morning. Suddenly it hit her. Could this be the call she had been waiting for? Knowing that she had a lot of applications out there, she decided to answer the call.

“Stephanie Petersen,” she said.

“Miss Petersen, my name is Gillian Landers, and I am calling on behalf of Simon Cowell. He has read your application, and he would like to see you for an interview here in London on Tuesday,” informed Gillian.

“Simon Cowell wants to see me? I will be there,” Stephanie said, trying to hide her excitement.

“Good. I will send you an e-mail later today with all the info you will need. We will take care of your flight, your hotel and transportation. You don’t have to worry about anything,” Gillian told to her.

“Except for the interview,” Stephanie replied.

“Yes, you are right about that but Simon is not a bad person. I will see you Tuesday,” Gillian said before hanging up.

Stephanie looked at the phone in her hand. Did that just happen or was it just her imagination? No, it had to be real. If it wasn’t real, then why would she be holding her phone? Thoughts were running through her head as she looked at the phone. Well, she would still need some new clothes for the interview. She dialed her friend’s number and they agreed to meet 10 minutes later. Stephanie hung up the phone and opened her computer. She logged onto the OF and sent a message to Samantha.

“Hi sis,

I have a job interview in London on Tuesday. Go me!
This is so exciting *jumps up and down*
I will talk to you later.

Love ya,

After sending the message, Stephanie cleared the table and got ready to meet her friend. Malou was her best friend, and they had been friends for a long time. The girls got into Malou’s car and drove off to the mall for a day of shopping. They arrived at the mall and they had a great time looking at stores. It didn’t take Stephanie long to find her outfit for the interview, but that didn’t stop the girls from looking at more stores. After spending a few hours at the mall, they had lunch at a nearby diner.

They were chatting like a couple of teenagers, and Malou seemed more excited about the interview than Stephanie. She was sure that Stephanie would get the job, but it also made her sad. If Stephanie got the job, then they wouldn’t be able to see each other. She didn’t tell Stephanie how she felt because this was a once in a lifetime opportunity for Stephanie and she didn’t want to ruin that. After finishing their lunch at the diner, Malou and Stephanie headed to Stephanie’s apartment.

After being dropped off, Stephanie walked into her apartment building and checked her mailbox before she walked upstairs to her apartment. As she hung up her coat, her phone started ringing. The caller ID said Mark, and she had no other choice but to answer the phone. She couldn’t avoid him forever.

“What do you want, Mark?” she asked him.

“Well, hello to you too. I was just thinking about the separation papers. Can you print them out, sign them and send them to me?” he said.

“I will take care of that tonight. All you have to do is sign them and send them back to me. I want to make sure the authorities get them,” Stephanie told him.

“You should have a little more faith in me, Stephanie,” Mark replied.

“I’ve been married to you for almost nine years, and I know it takes you forever to get things done. Sign the papers and return them to me. I want them in my mailbox by the end of the week,” Stephanie told him before hanging up.

Stephanie let out a sigh as she put down the phone and walked into the kitchen. Grabbing a can of soda from the fridge, she sat down in front of the TV. Suddenly she remembered the letter from her landlord. She opened the letter and read it. He wanted to know if she wanted to extend the lease. Well, she couldn’t give him an answer until she knew if she had gotten the job or not.

She took out her laptop and logged onto the OF. As expected there was a PM from Samantha.

“Hi sis,

That is great news.
I know you will get the job.
Can’t wait to live in London.

Love ya,

Stephanie couldn’t stop smiling. They had never met, but Samantha still wanted to go with her to London and live there. She loved the idea, but what if they couldn’t get along? It was one thing to talk online, but another to live together in a foreign country. Well, she would worry about that after the interview. She still had to do great at the interview and even if the interview went well, there was no guarantee that the job would be hers. There was no need to make big plans yet.

It would be another hour before Samantha would be online on MSN Messenger, so Stephanie decided to check her emails to see if there was info about her trip to London. She found an email with details about the trip and the interview. One line in the email caught her attention. All four Divos would be present at the interview. How could she stay calm when she had four of the most handsome men sitting in front of her? The interview would be a challenge for sure.

After printing the email and all of the attached documents, Stephanie searched the web for separation papers. She found the website and the papers, printed them and filled them out. After signing them, she put them in an envelope and that was it. Now it was up to Mark to sign them and return them to her. She had given him a week to sign the papers and return them to her but Stephanie had a feeling that Mark wouldn’t keep the deadline. Why should he start now? He had never kept a deadline before.

A few hours later, Samantha logged on messenger and she and Sam started chatting. Their conversation was mostly about the job and IL DIVO, but Stephanie also needed to talk about Mark. Samantha listened as Stephanie informed her of the conversation with Mark. She knew what kind of problems Stephanie had with him, and she knew that Stephanie didn’t need him in her life. Stephanie felt a lot better after talking to Samantha. They had only been friends for three years but they seemed to have a special bond; almost like sisters.

After chatting for a few hours, Stephanie said goodnight and went to bed. Apart from Mark contacting her, it had been a perfect day. She had a good feeling about the next couple of days. Hopefully things would turn out the way she hoped for. Only time would tell.

Chapter 4

Stephanie took a final look around the apartment to make sure that she hadn’t forgotten anything. Packing had been a bit hectic as Gillian had called to inform her that she would be leaving Monday afternoon, and not Tuesday morning as planned. To Stephanie, it had been a welcoming change to the plans. She could get a good night’s rest before the interview and she didn’t have to worry about the plane being delayed. Picking up her suitcase, she left the apartment, and locked the door behind her.

Her parents had offered to take her to the airport even though it wasn’t that far from her apartment. She had a feeling that her mom wanted to make sure that nothing happened to her on the way to the airport; as she had always been really protective of Stephanie. Sometimes, though, it had been really annoying but it was nice to know that they worried about her safety. Stephanie climbed into the car and took a final look at the apartment building, as the car drove off.

“Did you remember everything?” Anette Biehl asked her daughter.

“Yes, mom. I have everything I need and it’s only for a few days,” Stephanie told her.

“I know that. Guess I’m just a bit worried,” Anette replied, being the overprotected mother hen.

“Don’t be, I will be fine plus it’s not my first visit to London,” Stephanie reminded her.

“She will be fine, Anette, she is old enough to take care of herself,” came the voice of her father, Martin Biehl, as he reminded his wife.

Anette didn’t say anymore after that. She just looked out of the window and thought back to Stephanie’s last visit in London. That was the week she lost her son-in-law, and this time she could be losing her only daughter too. Yes, she knew that Stephanie had a chance of starting a new life, and she was happy about that. Nevertheless, it just didn’t change the fact that she wouldn’t be able to see Stephanie as often as before. Anette was well aware that IL DIVO’s schedule was busy, but she still hoped that Stephanie would get a chance to come back and visit them in Copenhagen.

They arrived at the airport on time and after saying goodbye to her parents, Stephanie walked into the departure area to check in. It took about fifteen minutes for her to check in and get through security check. Now she could relax with a cup of coffee. She still had one hour until they had to board the plane, so she took out her laptop and logged onto the OF. The OF wasn’t buzzing at the moment but soon it would be as the guys would be touring again. After sending a PM to Samantha, Stephanie closed the computer and looked out of the window. She had so many thoughts running through her head as she watched the planes take off.

It was an hour later Stephanie found her seat on the plane that would take her to London. It had seemed like a dream up until now but reality kicked in as she sat there. She was just about to close her eyes when a young woman approached her. The woman seemed to be close to her own age and she seemed to be British. She smiled at Stephanie as she put her hand luggage in the compartment above the seats before sitting down.

“Carla Hudgens,” she said with a smile.

“Stephanie Petersen,” Stephanie replied.

“Going to London on business or pleasure?” Carla asked her.

“Both! I have a job interview in London, and hopefully I’ll have time for some sightseeing too,” replied Stephanie.

“The interview sounds interesting. Can I ask where?” Carla hesitated a bit when asking.

“I’ve applied for a PA job with IL DIVO. Not sure if you know who they are?” Stephanie informed her.

“IL DIVO? You mean the group IL DIVO?” Carla questioned her, and she seemed really excited.

“Yes, the group. I assume you know who they are,” Stephanie laughed.

“Oh yes, I do. They are so great, and my personal favorite is David. He is so cute. Who is your favorite in the group?” Carla asked, wanting to know.

“I like them all but Sébastien is my favorite Divo. The man is pure perfection,” Stephanie replied.

“Well, that’s your opinion,” Carla said with a smile.

“Yes, it is and nothing will make me change my mind. What do you do for a living?” Stephanie asked her.

“Oh I’m a publicist and I have my own business. I’ve been in Copenhagen for a meeting and now I am on my way home,” replied Carla.

“Cool! Maybe we will see each other in London if I get the job?” Stephanie questioned.

“Where are you staying in London?” Carla asked.

“At the Westbury Mayfair Hotel,” Stephanie replied.

“That’s not far from me. We can have dinner together if you want,” Carla offered.

“That would be great. I don’t like to eat alone,” Stephanie said with a smile.

“Great. I will pick you up at six then,” Carla said.

“Perfect.” Stephanie smiled at her.

The two girls enjoyed each other’s company, and they talked all the way to Heathrow Airport. After getting their luggage, the two girls left the airport and Stephanie walked over to the car waiting for her. Carla and Stephanie said goodbye before they went their separate ways. Stephanie said hello to the driver, who introduced himself as Jonathan Wheeler, as he put the bags in the trunk, Stephanie got into the car. She couldn’t believe that she was actually here and that her life could have changed in just 24 hours from now.

Jonathan, she found, was a charming young man and he was really easy to talk to. They talked about Simon, Il Divo and Copenhagen as they drove to the hotel. Jonathan had been working for Simon for four years, and he informed her he had been an exchange student in Copenhagen. He loved Copenhagen and he couldn’t wait to go back there because he had made a lot of friends during his year there. Stephanie told him about her previous visits to London and she hoped to do a bit of sightseeing before going back home. Jonathan told her that his girlfriend would be happy to show her around if she was interested, and she could just let him know the next day.

They arrived at the hotel and Jonathan helped her inside with the bags. Before leaving her at the reception desk, he told her that he would pick her up at nine thirty the next day. Stephanie checked in and walked to her room to find a nice surprise on the bed. It was a basket with some fruits, chocolates and a small bottle of wine with a card attached to it. The basket was from Simon’s office and the card said, ‘Welcome to London’. After unpacking her bag, Stephanie changed into some more comfortable clothes before lying down on the bed. She wanted to relax a bit before Carla would pick her up. After setting the alarm, she closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep.

Stephanie woke up to the sound of the alarm and walked into the bathroom to get ready for dinner. Half an hour later she was downstairs in the reception, waiting for Carla to arrive. She took out her phone and called her parents to let them know that she had arrived safely and would call them the next day to let them know how the interview went. Carla arrived shortly after Stephanie hung up the phone and the two girls left the hotel to go to the restaurant.

“So, tomorrow is the big day. Are you getting nervous?” Carla asked, as they were waiting for their food.

“No, but I will be tomorrow morning. I try not to think about the interview,” Stephanie replied as she took a sip of her sprite.

“You want to talk about something else, don’t you?” Carla smiled at her.

“Yes, if you don’t mind,” replied Stephanie as she smiled back.

“No, I don’t mind. Tell me more about yourself.” Carla said, as the waiter brought them their food.

Even though Stephanie and Carla had just met earlier that day, Stephanie felt comfortable about telling her about her life. She could see that Carla was shocked to hear about Mark and the way he had been treating Stephanie. It was easy to see that Carla didn’t like Mark and she had never met the man. Stephanie felt better after telling Carla about what happened with Mark because she hadn’t really been talking to anyone about it.

“Your ex is a real jerk! You can do better,” Carla told her, as took a sip of her coke.

“I know, but a new man is the last thing I need right now. I’m alone for the first time since I was sixteen, and I need to find out who I am,” Stephanie told her.

“It sounds like a good idea and you will find someone when you are ready,” Carla said with a smile.

“I hope so,” Stephanie smiled back.

They finished their dinner and paid the bill before going back to Stephanie’s hotel. After saying goodbye to Carla, Stephanie walked to her room and walked out on the balcony to take a look at London. It surely felt good to back in London and she couldn’t wait to go sightseeing. She walked back inside and took out her laptop. As she logged onto messenger, she received a message from Samantha. She was curious and wanted to know how Stephanie’s day had been.

Stephanie told her about Carla and Samantha was happy to hear that Carla liked David. It meant that she didn’t have to fight her to get Carlos’ attention. Samantha still had no doubt that Stephanie would get the job with Il Divo and she couldn’t wait to join her in London. She had already been checking flights to London, so now she just had to wait for Stephanie to tell her that she got the job. Stephanie tried to tell her not to hope for anything, but it was like talking to a wall.

They chatted for a few hours and then it was time for Stephanie to say goodnight. She had to prepare a few things for the interview and get a good night’s sleep. After closing her laptop, Stephanie got ready for bed and she climbed into bed with a good feeling. Tomorrow could be the beginning of a new life and she drifted off to sleep with a smile on her face.

Chapter 5

On the day of the interview, Séb didn’t want to get out of bed. Why should he? His opinion didn’t matter at all when it came to finding a new PA and his presence at the interviews would be a waste of time. Simon had already chosen the new PA, so why bother with the interviews? Letting out a sigh, Séb rose from the bed and took a shower before getting dressed. He walked into the kitchen to get some breakfast before heading downstairs to meet the guys. As Séb was eating his breakfast, he wondered what the day would bring.

“Good morning,” Séb said, as he walked into the game room.

“Good morning, Séb, how are you feeling?” David asked his friend.

“I’m fine, but I don’t see why we all have to be present during the interviews,” replied the Frenchman.

“Well, we are the ones who have to work with this new PA,” David pointed out to him.

“I know that, but Simon has already made the decision about the new PA,” Séb stated.

“You don’t know that for sure,” Carlos said.

“Come on, Carlos, you were at the meeting too and you know as well as I do that the choice has already been made,” Séb told him.

“Sorry to break up this conversation but we have to leave now,” David said, looking at Séb and Carlos.

Without saying another word, the guys walked to their cars and drove off. As David drove the car through the streets of London, Séb seemed to be in his own little world, looking out of the window. He knew that the new PA would be a woman and all he could hope for was that she was really unattractive or involved with someone. David stopped the car in front of the building, and he looked at Séb who seemed to be in a better mood than earlier, but he didn’t want to know what had caused this change.

As soon as Carlos and Urs arrived in Carlos’ car, the guys walked inside the building and up to Simon’s office. Simon and his PA of two years, Gillian Landers, were busy getting things ready for the interviews as the guys walked inside. After greeting them, he asked Gillian to leave because he wanted to talk to the guys before the interviews. She smiled before leaving the office, closing the door behind her. As soon as she was gone, he turned to the guys.

“The candidates are nervous about the interviews and maybe even more because you are here. I want to make them feel comfortable being here, so I would ask you to let me do all the talking. You’re here only to observe,” Simon told them as he looked at all of them.

The guys looked at each other and nodded their heads in agreement. Simon handed them all a copy of the applications and all they could do now was to wait for the first applicant to arrive. The Divos looked at the applications and Séb had to admit that the male candidate wasn’t the best for the job, but only time would tell what would happen. They talked about the candidates and it became clear that only one person was the right one for the job.

A knock on the door interrupted their conversation. Gillian walked in to announce that the first candidate had arrived. A young man walked through the door and Simon greeted him before introducing him to the guys. After taking a seat, Simon started asking him a lot of questions. He was a pleasant young man and he answered every question without hesitation. Simon liked him and his enthusiasm but he had to look at his abilities and those were not good enough for the job. The guys all wanted to ask some questions but they had made a promise to Simon about not saying a word.

Westbury Mayfair Hotel

Stephanie was in her room getting ready for the interview when her phone started ringing. It was Gillian who wanted to ask her if she would mind coming earlier, as the second candidate had cancelled. Without hesitating, Stephanie said yes and finished getting dressed after hanging up the phone. After gathering her things, Stephanie left the room and walked downstairs to the reception and asked the girl to call for a cab. About five minutes later, the cab arrived and Stephanie got in. As the cab drove through London, she thought of what would happen if she got the job. She couldn’t afford to blow this one because that would be another failure and she had taken her share of those over the years.

The cab stopped in front of the building and after paying the cab driver, Stephanie got out and walked into the building that could be her work space later today. She took one look around the reception area before walking over to a woman sitting by a desk. Stephanie introduced herself and a few minutes later, a woman showed up and walked over to Stephanie. It was Gillian, the woman Stephanie had been talking to on the phone and she asked Stephanie to follow her.

“Do you want something to drink while you wait?” Gillian asked Stephanie.

“Just some water, please,” Stephanie replied with a smile.

“I’ll be right back,” Gillian said before she turned and left, leaving Stephanie alone.

Stephanie looked around the office and she noticed a picture of IL DIVO. She walked over to the picture and looked at it. The picture didn’t look familiar to her, so it had to be a special one. Stephanie couldn’t believe that she was standing outside of Simon Cowell’s office and that the Divos were on the other side of the door. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath as Gillian returned with the water.

“Getting nervous?” Gillian asked with a smile.

“Yes. I am meeting Simon Cowell and IL DIVO, who wouldn’t be nervous?” Stephanie replied.

“You’re right. I remember when I met Simon for the first time. I didn’t know what to do or say and I was so nervous that I poured coffee all over him. Not the best first impression, but I got the job and him,” she said with a smile.

“That’s why I chose the water. It’s got a bottle cap, so I won’t pour anything over him or the Divos for that matter.” Stephanie smiled back.

As the two women were talking, the door opened and Simon appeared with the male candidate following him. A lot of thoughts were running through Stephanie’s head and she wanted to run out of there and go back to Copenhagen but if she did that, Samantha would be giving her a hard time about it. As soon as the young man had left, Simon walked over to Stephanie and smiled at her.

“You must be Stephanie?” Simon reached out his hand to her.

“Yes, I am and it’s a pleasure to meet you,” Stephanie replied, as she shook his hand.

“We should get started before you get more nervous, so follow me?” Simon asked her.

Stephanie followed him into the office and her heart skipped a beat as she looked at the four Divos sitting there in front of her. Yes, she had been close to them before when she had attended a meet and greet, but this was different. Simon introduced her to the Divos and a few minutes later, the interview started. It didn’t take long for Stephanie to forget all about being nervous, and the interview went smoothly. About half an hour later, Stephanie left the office with a good feeling. The interview went better than expected and all she could do now was to wait for the call that could change her life forever.
Simon’s office

Two hours later, the interviews were over and it was time to decide who to choose for the job. Simon was aware that it might be a difficult decision to make because of Séb and his hate towards women, but he had to go with the person who was best for the job. He asked the Divos to write down the name of the one person they wanted as their new PA and he was shocked to see the result. All four Divos had chosen the same person and Simon couldn’t believe it.

“Well, this is a surprise but a good one. You’ve all agreed on the same person,” Simon said.

“We have? That is a surprise. I thought Séb wanted the male candidate,” Carlos replied, who was stunned.

“I did, but I had to choose the one who would be best for the job. I can’t promise you that I will like her or anything,” Séb pointed out.

“Well, we just have to wait and see about that. I will go to her hotel and tell her the good news. I suggest we meet tonight at seven for dinner at her hotel and talk about what will happen next?” Simon asked them.

“I was planning on having dinner with Alyssa tonight but I think she will understand,” Urs said.

“Gillian will be joining us, so you can bring Alyssa to dinner. And you guys can bring someone if you want.” Simon looked at the others.

“I will come alone,” Séb told him.

“Me too,” Carlos and David said at the same time.

“Ok. I guess that’s it for now. I will see you at the Westbury Mayfair Hotel at seven.” Simon said.

The guys left Simon’s office and Simon talked to Gillian for a few minutes before he headed to Westbury Mayfair Hotel. He walked over to the reception desk and asked for Stephanie’s room number. After getting the number, he went upstairs to Stephanie’s room and knocked on the door. When Stephanie opened the door and saw Simon standing there, she knew he had some good news.

“Come on in,” Stephanie said as she stepped aside and let him in.

“Thank you. I guess you already know why I am here,” Simon said with a smile.

“I have an idea,” Stephanie gestured for him to sit down.

“Congratulations. You got the job. I want to talk about what will happen next. I was thinking of giving you two weeks to take care of everything back in Copenhagen and I hope you are ok with it. You won’t have to worry about finding a place to stay in London because I’ve already taken care of that. The apartment has two bedrooms, a large kitchen, a large bathroom and living room. If you tell me what colors you want, I’ll make sure the apartment is ready for you when you come back.” Simon told her.

“Thank you so much! I didn’t really expect this at all but I will give you the info before I leave tomorrow. Would it be a problem if my friend from New York moves in with me?” Stephanie asked.

“No, I don’t mind that. It’s big enough for two people, so it’s up to you. I will make a reservation to eat in the restaurant here at the hotel tonight and I’ve asked the Divos to join us.” Simon replied.

“Can I bring a friend of mine to dinner?” Stephanie asked.

“Of course you can. I will see you in the restaurant at seven.” Simon said as he got up.

“I will be there.” Stephanie smiled as she walked him to the door.

After saying goodbye to Simon, Stephanie still couldn’t believe that she had gotten the job. It was a dream come true and she couldn’t wait to tell her friends and family about it. She took out her laptop and logged onto the OF before picking up her phone to call her parents. After talking to them for about 10 minutes, she called Carla to tell her about dinner later. Carla had made plans but she decided to cancel them and have dinner with the Divos instead. Stephanie hung up the phone and wrote a PM to Samantha.

Hi sis,

Guess who is the new PA for IL DIVO? Me! I got the job and will move to London in two weeks. Thank you so much for telling me to apply. We need to talk about colors for your bedroom and I will need the info no later than tomorrow morning.

I have dinner with Simon and the Divos tonight, but I will be online as soon as I get back from dinner.

Love ya,

Stephanie closed her computer and walked over to the window to take a look at the city that would be her home in just two weeks. As she stood there, reality kicked in. She was the new PA for IL DIVO, and she was about to start a whole new life. This was her chance to show Mark that she was doing fine without him in her life and she couldn’t wait to see his face when she told him. Stephanie wanted to relax a little before dinner and after setting the alarm, she drifted off to sleep feeling good about herself.

Chapter 6

Dinner – Steph’s point of view

Stephanie looked at the two dresses in front of her and she had no idea which one to choose. The dinner was in the hotel restaurant and she wanted to keep it simple. Knowing she was running late, she made a quick decision and put on one of the dresses. She put on a light make-up before taking one final look at herself in the mirror. As she looked at her reflection, she heard a voice inside her head telling her that she was good enough and it made her smile.

She picked up her purse and went downstairs for dinner. There was no sign of Simon, Divos or Carla when Stephanie stepped out of the elevator, so she decided to just sit down and wait for them. She still couldn’t believe that she had gotten the job or that she was about to have dinner with Il Divo. For the first time since Mark had kicked her out, Stephanie believed in her heart that she was good enough. Well, this was a once in a lifetime experience and she would do whatever it took to make it work.

Stephanie looked at her watch before looking towards the entrance. There was still no sign of Simon or the guys but suddenly she saw Urs walking through the door with a beautiful woman by his side. The woman was a picture of pure perfection with her long black hair, big brown eyes and a body to die for. Urs greeted Stephanie before introducing her to Alyssa. The two women instantly hit it off and as they were chatting, Urs looked at his watch with the hope that Simon and the others would get there soon. Thank you, God he thought as he spotted Simon and Gillian walking through the door, followed by the Divos. They all greeted Stephanie and Simon was surprised to see her standing there alone.

“I thought your friend was joining us for dinner,” Simon said.

“That was the plan,” Stephanie said.

“Sorry, I’m late,” Carla’s voice suddenly said.

“It’s ok. You’re here now,” Stephanie said with a smile before introducing Carla to them.

They all said hello to Carla and it was easy to see that David liked what he saw. He wouldn’t let go of her hand and Carla, being a Diva, didn’t seem to mind at all. Stephanie noticed Séb staring at David and Carla and she didn’t like the look on his face. He seemed disgusted about the attraction between them but why? Didn’t he want his friend to be happy? It didn’t make much sense to Stephanie but she didn’t want to get involved in this.

They walked into the restaurant, and after being shown to the table, the waiter brought them the menus. It didn’t take long for them to order and as they were waiting for the food, they all seemed really interested in hearing all about Stephanie. She didn’t tell them about Mark and what he had done to her because she didn’t know them well enough to let them in on that.

“What made you apply for the job?” Carlos asked her.

“I’ve been writing application after application for three months but all I got was rejections. I didn’t think anyone wanted me but then my friend told me about the PA job and she told me to apply. I did as she said and well, here we are,” Stephanie replied.

“I think you’re brave to make a decision like that,” Carlos said.

“Thanks. At least I won’t have to live here alone. My friend, Samantha, is moving to London and she will be staying with me,” Stephanie told him.

“Is your friend single?” Carlos asked, wiggling his eyebrows.

“Yes, single and a Cutie,” Stephanie replied with a smile.

“I like that,” Carlos smiled back.

As the others were talking, Stephanie noticed that Séb didn’t say much and she wondered if she was the reason for his silence. But why would he have anything against her? He didn’t even know her. She thought back to that day a few years earlier when she had met the Divos for the first time. Stephanie had been new to the world of Il Divo back then and her friends had told her not to look into Séb’s eyes because they were hypnotizing.

She did as her friend had said until she was introduced to Séb as a new Siren who had never met him before. The words I’m glad to meet you then still echoed in her mind and those words had made her do what she was told not to. She raised her head and looked straight into his eyes and the damage was done. As she walked away, she could only remember parts of their conversation as the rest was just a blur.

“What do you think, Stephanie?” Carla asked, pulling Stephanie back to reality.

“I’m sorry. What?” Stephanie questioned, feeling her cheeks blush.

“Never mind,” Carla said with a smile.

Stephanie had never felt so embarrassed in her entire life and she wanted to run away but as the new PA, she had to stay there. She tried to focus on the conversations but it wasn’t easy with Séb’s eyes staring at her like she was intruding. Stephanie didn’t feel comfortable and she couldn’t wait for dinner to be over. It seemed like Simon had read her mind because suddenly he announced that it was time to leave. He paid the bill and they all left the restaurant.

As they walked into the reception area, David offered to take Carla home and she couldn’t say no to that offer. They said their goodnights and walked out of the hotel, as the others were looking at them. Carlos and Séb stayed for a few minutes before saying goodbye and leaving together. Urs and Alyssa had made plans to stay at her place and they were waiting for her father to pick them up. About ten minutes later, they said goodnight and left the hotel, leaving Stephanie alone with Simon and Gillian.

“Can I ask you a question, Simon?” Stephanie asked.

“Of course you can. What is on your mind?” Simon questioned as he gestured for her to sit down.

“Does Séb have a problem with me being here?” Stephanie asked him.

“Well, I won’t lie to you. He has a problem with you being a woman and he might cause problems for you but I hope you will take the job anyway,” Simon replied.

“I want this job and I won’t let him chase me away,” Stephanie said.

“Good. Did you find out what to do about the colors for the bedrooms?” Simon asked.

“No, but I love purple and Samantha loves red,” Stephanie replied with a smile.

“I can work with that,” Gillian said.

They talked for a few more minutes before Gillian and Simon said goodbye and left the hotel. Stephanie watched them leave before she turned and walked over to the elevator. As the doors closed, she closed her eyes and smiled to herself. For the first time since her separation from Mark, Stephanie felt like she was good enough and it was a nice feeling. She opened her eyes when the elevator stopped and she walked to her room and stepped inside.

As she was getting ready for bed, she thought back to the events of the day. It had been a long day for her but a good one. This was the first day of the rest of her life and she couldn’t wait to start a new life in London. Closing her eyes, she drifted off to sleep with a smile on her face.

Dinner – Séb’s point of view

Sébastien was in his bedroom, looking for something to wear at dinner. If it had been up to him there wouldn’t be a dinner at all. Why have a dinner when there was nothing to celebrate? Yes, they had a new PA but it wasn’t a big event or anything. After picking out the outfit, he got dressed and walked downstairs to meet Carlos and David. Urs had gone to Alyssa’s place after the interviews and he would not be back until the next day.

“What do you guys think about our new PA?” Séb asked them.

“She seems very nice and let’s not forget the fact that she is attractive,” Carlos replied.

“I have a feeling that something isn’t right about her,” Séb said.

“It’s just your imagination, Séb, you disliked her from the moment she applied,” David pointed out to him.

As David and Carlos were talking, Séb thought about what David had said. Séb had disliked her from the minute he saw her name on the application and he still felt the same way after the interview. He would do whatever he could to make her feel unwanted but of course he would do it without being too obvious about it. If the guys knew what he had planned, they would do everything to stop him.

They arrived at the hotel at the same time as Gillian and Simon and they went in together. Séb watched Urs as he had his arm around Alyssa’s waist and it made him sick. How could Urs be so blind? Alyssa was just like Melissa and it would only be a matter of time before she walked out on Urs. If that happened, Urs should not come to him for help because he had warned him.

Séb greeted Stephanie by kissing her hand before turning to Carlos. Suddenly he heard a voice behind him and he turned around to see a young woman walking towards them. She was introduced as Carla Hudgens and Séb felt sick once again when he noticed the attraction between David and Carla. Another one of his brothers had been struck by love and he couldn’t believe it. Well, at least Carlos hadn’t fallen under some female spell.

After the food was served, everyone was interested in hearing about Stephanie. As she told her story, Séb watched her closely. He had a feeling that she wasn’t telling them everything but it didn’t really surprise him. Every woman had a secret or two they didn’t want to share but Séb would do whatever he could to find out her little secret. His thoughts were interrupted when Carlos and Stephanie started talking about Stephanie’s friend, Samantha, who would be staying with her in London.

Séb couldn’t believe it. Stephanie had a friend who was single and liked Carlos. What was wrong with his friends? How could they think that these women wanted them for them? Well, there was nothing he could do about it, except hope that they would eventually come to their senses. Séb had chosen to keep quiet during dinner to observe Stephanie. He didn’t trust or like her at all and there was no way that he would ever become her friend. The others might be taken with her but that would never happen to him.

He kept looking at his watch, hoping Simon would call it a night soon as he was really bored. All he wanted to do was to go home, write a few songs and forget about this day but leaving before everyone else would be rude. When Simon announced it was time to leave, Séb looked at the ceiling whispering thank you. As they got into the reception area, he heard David offering to take Carla home and he shook his head as he watched them leave the hotel together.

After saying goodbye, Séb left the hotel with Carlos. The two Divos walked through the door to their home ten minutes later and they agreed to have a drink before bedtime. Séb walked upstairs to invite David to join them but there was no sign of him anywhere. Well, he didn’t want to make a big deal out of it because maybe David couldn’t get a cab or the traffic was bad. He closed the door to David’s apartment and went downstairs to Carlos who had finished their drinks.

“Where is David?” Carlos asked as Séb sat down.

“Not upstairs,” Séb replied and took a sip of his drink.

“Seems like he really hit it off with Carla,” Carlos said.

“I guess so,” Séb said.

“Come on, Séb. Don’t you think it’s time to forget about Melissa? She didn’t love you,” Carlos told him.

“Melissa was the woman of my dreams, Carlos. She left me and I have no idea why. I simply don’t trust women anymore and we are all better off without them,” Séb said.

“I don’t think the guys agree with you on that and neither do I. Not all women are like Melissa and nice women do exist. Urs and Simon have got two of them, David is working on number three and we will get the last two,” Carlos said with a smile.

“I am not talking about this anymore. I’m going to write a little before bed. See you tomorrow,” Séb said and left the games room.

He walked into the music room and sat down by the piano. Without thinking too much about it, he started writing a song and half an hour later, he was done. It had been so easy to write this song and he felt a lot better after writing it. As he scanned the paper, he saw all of his feelings on a single piece of paper. He put the song in a folder before walking upstairs to his apartment to get some sleep.

Chapter 7

After having a great time in London, Stephanie was back in Copenhagen. She had not heard anything from Mark and she really wanted that part of her life to be over and done with as soon as possible. A part of her felt like she couldn’t really get on with her life until the divorce was final. She had no other choice but to contact him and tell him that she needed the divorce now. Stephanie picked up her phone and dialed the number but she had a bad feeling in her stomach as she waited for Mark to pick up.

“What can I do for you?” Mark asked when he answered the phone.

“I just wanted to know when I will get the papers back,” Stephanie replied.

“You won’t get the papers, Stephanie, I’ve already sent them, so you just have to wait,” Mark told her.

“I told you to send them to me,” Stephanie said with anger in her voice.

“I know but I chose not to. Sue me if you want,” Mark said.

“You are impossible to talk to,” Stephanie said and hung up the phone.

She was fuming mad, so she decided to wait until she had calmed down to call the County Governor’s Office to ask them if they had received the papers from Mark. She grabbed a soda from the fridge and sat down in front of her laptop. With a deadline of two weeks, she had a lot of stuff to check and take care of before leaving Copenhagen behind and start a new life in London. When Steph had calmed down, she took her phone and called the County Governor’s Office.

The phone was answered by a woman named Joan Christensen and Steph informed her of the situation. Joan told her that she would have to check their files and get back to her and Steph had no other choice but to accept it. As she sat there, waiting for Joan to get back to her, Steph wondered what would happen if Mark hadn’t sent the papers. It wasn’t a secret that she didn’t trust him after what happened and deep down she had her doubts about the papers. Why did he do this to her? He had done enough and it was time to end this now.

About ten minutes later, Joan called back and told her that Mark had not sent the papers. Steph couldn’t believe it. What was he thinking? He was the one who wanted her out of his life, so why did he do this to her? Steph told Joan that she would call Mark again and if he still had the papers, she would go to his house and tell him to give them to her. Joan told her it was a bad idea but Steph didn’t care. She wanted those papers and she would do whatever it took to get it done.

Mark didn’t pick up when she called him, so she called Malou and asked her to take her to his place. Malou wasn’t sure if was a good idea but she knew that this was important to Steph and she wanted Steph to be happy. Fifteen minutes later, they were on their way to Mark’s house and Steph was trying to calm down but it wasn’t easy. As they pulled into Mark’s driveway, they noticed the car was there and Steph knew that he was home.

She told Malou to stay in the car but Malou refused. With Steph being as angry as she was, leaving her alone with Mark didn’t seem like a good idea. She knew Steph had a bad temper if pushed far enough and she didn’t want things to get ugly. The girls got out of the car and walked to the door where Steph rang the doorbell. A few minutes later, the door opened and Mark looked at them. He was shocked to see them and he knew why they were there.

“You know why I am here, Mark, give me the papers,” Steph said with anger written all over her face.

“I don’t have them,” he said.

“Don’t give me that. I’ve already contacted the County Governor’s Office and they don’t have the papers. You wanted this divorce, so give me the papers,” Steph demanded.

“Wait here,” Mark said and walked back inside, returning shortly after with the papers.

“I knew it. Why can’t you just do what I ask of you?” Steph asked him.

“This conversation is over,” Mark said and closed the door.

Steph looked at Malou and both of them were shocked. They got back in the car and drove to the post office to send the papers immediately and hopefully everything would be ok before Stephanie moved to London. After leaving the post office, they drove back to Steph’s apartment and Malou chose to stay with Steph all night.

A few days later, Steph got a call from Joan who wanted to inform her that there would be a meeting two days later. Steph let of a sigh of relieve when she heard those words but she wasn’t sure that Mark would show up and it worried her. If he chose to stay away, Steph wouldn’t get the divorce and they might have to wait another year or more to get the divorce. All she could do now was hope that Mark would agree to the meeting.

Steph tried to contact Mark several times but he never answered his phone. Not knowing if Mark would be at the meeting was killing her because this was really important to her. Hopefully the County Governor’s Office could make an exception about this divorce if Mark didn’t show up but she knew the chances were not good. For her to start a new life in London, she had to make sure that everything had been taken care of in Copenhagen.

Two days later, Steph and Malou were on their way to the meeting and they didn’t say much. Malou knew that Steph was nervous and she couldn’t really blame her. As they pulled into the parking lot, Steph spoke up for the first time since they left Copenhagen.

“His car is here, Malou, look like this will be a good day for me,” Steph said with a smile.

“I’m glad he decided to come. Just think about it, honey. When you go home today, you are a free woman and you can start dating again,” Malou said.

“No, I don’t want another man in my life,” Steph told her.

“What about the Frenchie from Il Divo?” Malou asked as they got out of the car.

“Do you believe in Santa Claus, too? Seriously, the man doesn’t like me because I am a woman,” Steph told her.

“What? Never thought I’d hear that about him. Well, his loss,” Malou said with a smile.

“If you’re done, then let’s focus on the meeting,” Steph said.

“I’m done. It’s time for you to get your divorce,” Malou said and hugged Steph.

Mark was in the waiting room when Steph and Malou arrived and he greeted them as they sat down. They were the only three people in the room and a silence filled the room as they stared at each other. After a few minutes, a woman appeared and called their names. Mark and Steph followed her into an office where they were met by Joan, the woman Steph had been talking to on the phone. She asked them to read the papers and sign if they agreed. It didn’t take long for Mark and Steph to read and sign the papers.

“Now you can get married again,” Joan said as she took the papers.

“No way,” Steph said to her.

Joan excused herself and returned a few minutes later with copies of the signed divorce papers. She gave them a copy and asked if they had any questions but they didn’t. They both said goodbye to Joan before leaving the office but they didn’t say a word to each other. Steph walked into the waiting room to pick up Malou and Mark just left the building. Everything had been said between them and it was now time for both of them to move on with their lives.

Steph kept looking at the paper in her hand and she couldn’t believe that she had finally gotten what she wanted but it sure felt good. She could now focus on moving to London and she couldn’t wait to start her new job as PA for Il Divo. Malou wanted to go out and celebrate but Steph wanted to go home because she still had a lot of things to take care of before leaving. Even though Malou was disappointed, she could understand why Steph wanted things to be ready as soon as possible.

After being dropped off at her apartment, Steph made herself a cup of coffee before sitting down. The list on the table in front of her was still long but she had taken care of the most important things. Her parents had agreed to store some of her stuff at their place and thanks to Simon, the things she wanted to bring with her would be picked up later that week. She couldn’t believe how helpful Simon had been about all of this but she was grateful for the help.

Steph looked at her to do list and she had a smile on her face as she deleted five more things on the list. It felt good to be on top of things for once and she couldn’t wait to be on top of things in London, working for Il Divo. Steph opened her laptop to check for emails from Gillian and she found one with information on her trip to London. After printing the email, Steph sent a copy to Sam before closing the computer again.

New York, USA

Sam was busy planning her trip too. She wanted to arrive in London at the same time at Steph, so they could go from the airport together and she hoped to hear something soon. Sam shared an apartment with a friend, so having a roommate wasn’t new to her but it would be different in London because she didn’t know Steph in person. She wasn’t worried about having Steph as roommate because they had been online friends for three years, so they knew each other well.

It seemed almost unreal to Sam that her friend was Il Divo’s new PA, and she couldn’t wait to meet Carlos and the other Divos. She had met them before but now she would be able to see them a lot, or at least she hoped so. Yes, Steph was the one with the job but hopefully it would be possible for Sam to see them sometimes too. Suddenly it dawned on Sam that Steph might feel like Sam had told her to apply for the job so she could get near Carlos but that was never her intention. She had to talk to Steph about that before they left because if Steph felt like that, then Sam wouldn’t go.

It was just after dinner, when Sam opened her computer and found the email from Steph. After reading, she logged onto the OF and messenger and sent a message to Steph. They talked about the trip and Sam wanted to make sure that Steph wanted her to come to London. Steph was shocked to hear Sam say that because she had never felt that at all. They had only been talking online but Steph trusted Sam and she knew her well enough to know that she wasn’t the kind of person who would use a friend.

Sam was really interested in knowing when the new PA would be announced but Steph had no idea when Simon wanted to make the announcement. Steph knew that Sam was dying to tell people about the new PA and moving to London, but they couldn’t say anything yet. If Sam chose to tell her friends that she was moving to London, then she would have to come up with a lie. Steph had only told her family and closest friends about the job and she knew they wouldn’t say anything.

The two friends continued to talk for a few hours and when Steph went to bed, everything had been well planned for their trip to London. In less than a week, they would be off to London and their new life and they couldn’t wait to see each other for the first time.

Copenhagen, Denmark

It was the day before Steph had to leave for London and her parents were having a farewell party for her. Steph was happy about the job and seeing her friends and family but knowing that she wouldn’t be able to see her nieces and nephews as often as before made her sad. She loved those kids so much and she had asked for new pics of them to bring with her to London. After getting dressed, Steph picked up her purse and left the apartment to spend her last evening in Copenhagen with friends and family.

The party would be held at her parents’ house because they had a ballroom above their garage. When she arrived at her parents’ house, she was met by a banner wishing her good luck in London. She walked into the ballroom and was greeted by her parents. Shortly after, her brothers arrived with their families. John Biehl was the oldest brother and he had his own computer company. He was married to Louise who was a pediatrician and they had two children, Benjamin and Camilla.

Thomas Biehl was an accountant and he had a daughter, Julie, from a previous relationship. His girlfriend, Susanne Andersen, was a lawyer and she had a son, Nikolaj, from a previous relationship. Julie had been influenced by Steph’s interest for Il Divo and her favorite Divo was David. Her biggest wish was to go to an Il Divo concert and with her birthday coming up soon, Steph hoped she could surprise Julie with a concert when the tour started later in the year.

The party went really well and Steph had a great time talking to her family and friends. Julie was really excited about Steph’s new job and she couldn’t wait to visit Steph in London. Steph promised her that she could visit her in London and if Simon would allow it, Julie could meet the Divos. It was a big if but Steph would do whatever she could to make it happen.

Steph spent the night at her parents’ house but she couldn’t sleep. She was nervous and a lot of thoughts were running through her head. What if they had been wrong about hiring her? What if she wasn’t good enough for the job? Would Séb ever accept her as the PA? She didn’t know why she was concerned about that. If she did a great job, then he would have to accept her. Or would he? Sleep finally caught up with her after an hour of thinking.

A new chapter was waiting to be written in Stephanie Petersen’s book. Only question was…………would it be a good one?

Chapter 8

Copenhagen Airport, Denmark

Even though Steph was excited about going to London, the sight of her family waving goodbye as she was on her way to security check made her feel sad. Saying goodbye was harder than she thought but she had no regrets about her decision. She couldn’t let a chance like this pass her by and she was grateful for all of the support she had received from her friends and family. It was now time for her to let the past be the past and look ahead to a big adventure in London; an adventure with Il Divo.

After getting through security check, Steph bought herself a sandwich and a cup of coffee. She wanted to relax and try to get her feelings under control. It seemed like her body was taken over by a lot of mixed emotions; excitement, happiness, sadness, nervousness and anticipation. She had never felt this way in her entire life and it scared her. So many things could go wrong when she arrived in London and questions were running through her head as she sat there. Would she get along with Sam? Would she be able to do a good job? Would Simon and the guys be happy with her as a PA? Would Sébastien cause any problems?

‘For God’s sake, Stephanie Petersen! Stop worrying about that guy. You are strong and you won’t let him get you down. You know that you are good enough for the job and Simon knows it too. If he didn’t think you were good enough, then he wouldn’t have hired you. So, relax and enjoy the adventure that is ahead of you’ a voice inside her head said. The voice was right. She did have Simon’s support and she had the support of Carlos, David and Urs too, at least that was the impression she got at the dinner.

‘Flight SK774 to London – Heathrow is now boarding at gate 17’ a voice said, taking Steph back to reality. She picked up her bag and walked to the gate. As she was about to walk to the plane, she turned around and took one last look at Copenhagen Airport before walking to the plane. Steph quickly found her seat and sat down after putting her hand luggage in the compartment above her seat. As the passengers found their seats, Stephanie was trying to read her book but her thoughts kept circling around Il Divo, meeting Samantha, the job and Sébastien. Letting out a sigh, she closed the book and looked out of the window.

As the plane started moving, a smile appeared on Steph’s face. The moment she had been waiting for had finally come. In just a few hours, she would meet Samantha in Heathrow Airport and then they would go to the apartment together. She couldn’t wait to meet Samantha and she couldn’t wait to hear how Carla’s two weeks had been. As the plane left the ground, Steph looked out of the window and she felt a bit sad. She had so many great memories from Copenhagen but even though she felt sad, she also knew that it was time to make new memories and those memories were two hours away in London.

*Flashback – London, 2 weeks earlier*

“You really don’t have to drive me home,” Carla said to David as they drove to Carla’s apartment.

“It’s not really a problem. It will give me a chance to get to know you better,” David smiled at her.

“Oh, I see. Well, you could ask me out,” Carla blurted out.

“You sure do know how to put pressure on a guy,” David laughed.

“I’m sorry, David. I didn’t mean to blurt it out like that,” Carla replied with blushing cheeks.

“It’s ok. I was actually thinking of asking you out. How about tomorrow night?” he asked with a smile.

“Tomorrow night sounds good. When and where?” Carla asked.

“I will pick you up at seven and the restaurant will be a surprise.” David explained.

David and Carla continued to talk all the way to her home and they were really hitting it off. After stopping the car, David got out and walked Carla to the door.

“Well, here we are,” David announced, not really sure what to do.

“Yes, we are. I had a great time and I’m looking forward to dinner tomorrow,” Carla smiled at him.

“Me too. I should leave but I will see you tomorrow,” David smiled back.

“Good night,” Carla kissed his cheek before walking inside.

David got into his car and drove home. He couldn’t wait to see Carla again the next day and he hoped that this could be the start of something good. Carla felt the same way as she got ready for bed. Meeting David had been one of the best moments in her life and she couldn’t wait to see where this could go.

The next day, David picked up Carla as promised and they went out to dinner. They both felt comfortable around each other and the attraction was easy to see. David made Carla laugh and he loved hearing her laugh. Like most Divas, Carla was taken by David’s smile. She could look at his smile for hours and Carla hoped that maybe someday she would be able to.

“So, what can you tell me about Carla Hudgens,” David questioned as the food was served.

“Well, I was born in Madison, Wisconsin. My dad, Jude, is an ex-Olympic gymnast and now owns three gyms. My mom, Nicola, is a principle and I’ve got two siblings; an older sister, Katrina and a younger brother, Joshua. I left Wisconsin at the age of twenty to work for a London publicist company but five years ago, I opened my own business. One day I hope to go back to Madison and settle down there,” Carla told him.

“That’s explains why you don’t sound British,” David said.

“Are you disappointed about that?” Carla questioned.

“No, I’m not disappointed at all. Do you want some dessert?” David asked.

“Sure,” Carla replied with a smile.

David ordered dessert and they continue to talk. They had a lot in common and they both felt like they could tell each other anything. As David drove her home, he told her that he would be busy for a few days but if she wasn’t busy Saturday night, he would like to ask her out on a date. Carla told him that she had no plans and that she would love to go out on a date with him.

The attraction between Carla and David grew stronger as the weeks went by but they both agreed to take things slow and not rush into anything.

*End of flashback*

Heathrow Airport – London

It was just after noon when Steph arrived in London. As she walked towards the baggage reclaim section, she was getting nervous with each step she took. According to Sam’s flight schedule, she would already be at the airport and that made Steph even more nervous. Steph couldn’t believe that she was about to meet the girl she had been calling sis for the last three years but she was looking forward to seeing Samantha in person.

As soon as Steph had gotten her suitcase, she walked into the arrivals area and looked for Samantha but she couldn’t see her anywhere. Suddenly she felt someone padding her on the shoulder and she turned to see Sam standing there in front of her. Without saying a word, the two friends hugged each other for a long time.

“It’s so good to see you in person, sis. I can’t believe we’re finally here,” Sam beamed as she pulled away from the hug.

“I feel the same way, sis. After three years of talking on msn and OF, we are finally talking to each other face to face,” Steph said with a smile.

“Yes, it’s great,” Sam smiled back.

“We should probably get out of here before the car leaves,” Steph stated as she picked up her suitcase.

“Yes, I think you’re right about that,” Sam agreed.

The two friends walked out of the airport and Steph was happy to see who would be taking them to their apartment. They walked over to the car and Steph said hello to Jonathan before introducing him to Sam. The girls got into the car and Jonathan put their suitcases in the trunk before getting into the car. As they left the airport area, Jonathan informed them that he would drop them off at the apartment and pick them up later for a dinner at Simon’s place. Sam couldn’t wait to see the apartment and meet the Divos. She had met the Divos before but this time it would be different. She would be having dinner with them at Simon Cowell’s house.

“Here we are. I will get your suitcases,” Jonathan told them as he stopped the car.

“I love this place already,” Steph expressed her joy as she looked at the building in front of her.

“So do I. I’m glad I decided to come here,” Sam added with a smile.

“Follow me,” Jonathan opened the door.

Sam and Steph followed Jonathan into the building and they couldn’t wait to see their apartment. He led them to the second floor and opened the door to the apartment. Steph and Sam walked into the hallway, followed by Jonathan and they both had big smiles on their faces. As they took a look at the rest of the apartment, they both knew that they would love living there. It had everything and the biggest surprise was the two bathrooms. Simon never mentioned two bathrooms when Steph talked to him in London but it was a nice surprise.

“So, what do you think about this place?” Jonathan asked as the girls joined him in the living room.

“I love it. It’s just perfect,” Steph replied as she looked at Sam who nodded her head in agreement.

“Good. I have to leave now but I will pick you up at 6 pm,” Jonathan said to them.

“We will be ready,” Sam promised him.

After saying goodbye to Jonathan, Steph and Sam decided to unpack and take a nap before the dinner at Simon’s house. Sam was excited about meeting Simon and the Divos and she was surprised to see that Steph wasn’t as excited as her.

“Can I ask you something?” Sam asked, hoping Steph wouldn’t get angry.

“Of course you can,” Steph replied with a smile.

“I know you’ve met the guys two weeks ago but you don’t seem excited about seeing them again. Why is that?” Sam questioned her friend.

“You might not believe this but Séb hates me because I’m a woman,” Steph replied.

“What? That’s nonsense! He doesn’t even know you,” Sam was shocked to hear those words.

“I know that but he still hates me. Simon told me that Séb might cause problems for me,” Steph told her.

“Promise me that you won’t let him get to you,” Sam begged.

“I promise,” Steph agreed.

“Good. I’m so happy we are friends and sisters,” Sam stated as she hugged Steph.

“So am I,” Steph smiled at her.

The two friends went into their bedrooms for a nap. Soon they would be on their way to meet Simon and the Divos.

At six pm, the girls were picked up by Jonathan who took them to Simon’s house. Steph was nervous as they drove through London because she knew that she would be seeing Séb again and she wasn’t looking forward to that meeting. Yes, she was a Siren but she couldn’t believe that she had been so wrong about Séb. No, she wasn’t going to let him ruin her new life in London or make her quit her job.

“Are you still with me?” Sam asked.

“I’m sorry, Sam. I was just thinking,” Steph answered.

“Well, looks like you won’t have time to think anymore. I think we are here,” Sam indicated with a smile as the car drove through the big gate to Simon’s house.

“Enjoy your evening,” Jonathan said as he closed the door after the girls got out of the car.

“Are you ready?” Steph questioned as they stood in front of the door.

“Yes, I am ready. This dinner will be great,” Sam replied as she rang the doorbell.

The door was opened by Simon who welcomed them into his house. Steph introduced Simon to Sam and after greeting Sam, Simon showed them into the dining room where Gillian, Urs and Alyssa were waiting. Simon introduced them to Sam and they all greeted the two girls. A few minutes later, Séb arrived with David and Carla following him. They were saying hello to everyone as Carlos made his appearance.

“Sorry for being late but my hair was acting up,” Carlos explained.

“You’re here now,” Simon said.

Carlos walked over to them and greeted his friends and the girls. He looked at Sam and his eyes scanned the beauty in front of him.

“I don’t believe we’ve met before. Carlos Marin,” he smiled at Sam.

“Samantha Hannigan. I am Steph’s friend,” Sam told him.

“Oh, so you are the Cutie friend. It’s a pleasure to meet you,” Carlos looked at her, wiggling his eyebrows.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you too,” Sam said.

“You ladies look stunning tonight,” Carlos smiled at them.

“I think that is enough flirting for tonight. Let’s get something to eat and make this a great night,” Simon looked at them.

They all took their seat at the dining table and they all had a great time at dinner. Séb seemed to have a great time too but something in his eyes told Steph that he was only pretending. Well, she didn’t want him to ruin the evening for her and Sam, so she didn’t say anything.

It was about eleven pm when the Divos said their goodnights and left Simon’s house. Tomorrow would be the first day with their new PA and they had a busy schedule ahead of them. Simon had asked Steph and Sam to stay a little longer because he wanted to talk to Steph. Sam was in the living room with Gillian and the two women had a good time talking about the guys while Simon was talking to Steph. After about half an hour, the two girls were on their way home to their apartment after having a great time.

“They are really nice people,” Sam stated as they walked into the apartment.

“Yes, they all are,” Steph agreed with a smile.

“We should get some sleep. You have a busy day tomorrow,” Sam pointed out.

“Yes, I have. Goodnight,” Steph said.

“Goodnight, Steph. Sweet dreams,” Sam smiled at her.

“Thanks, sis. See you in the morning,” Steph smiled back before walking into her room.

As Steph was in her bed, she wondered what tomorrow would bring. She hoped that it would be a good and exciting day without any problems. With a smile on her face, she closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep.

Chapter 9

“Are you nervous?” Sam asked Steph as they were having breakfast.

“Not as much as I thought I would be,” Steph replied as she took a sip of her coffee.

“That’s good. You will knock them dead and Simon won’t regret hiring you,” Sam smiled.

“Let’s hope so. I am sure I can do the job but one of the guys isn’t happy about me being the new PA,” Steph reminded Sam.

“I wouldn’t worry about Séb, Steph. He will come around. Maybe it will take some time but I am sure he will accept you as their PA,” Sam told her.

“Hopefully you’re right. Well, I have to get ready for my meeting with Simon,” Steph picked up her coffee and walked to her room.

A few minutes later, Steph walked into the kitchen and put her mug in the sink before turning to Sam. She put on her coat and picked up her purse before hugging Sam. Steph left the apartment and Sam walked over to the window. She saw Jonathan waiting by the car for Steph to join him and she watched as Steph got into the car. As soon as the car was gone, Sam cleaned up the kitchen and walked into her bedroom to pick up her computer.

Even though there had never been any romance in Sam’s life, she was a successful romance novel writer. She had always been good at writing stories and she never had any doubts that writing stories was what she wanted to do as an adult. Sam’s parents, Robert and Suzanna, had always been very supportive of Sam and her brother, Charlie, and their support had been really important to both of them. When Sam finished her first novel, she never expected it to be published but it was published and she was currently working on her 5th novel. The movie “Hand on your heart” was based on her bestselling novel and it had been a special experience to see her novel on the big screen.

While Sam was busy writing her novel, Steph was on her way to the meeting with Simon. As she walked down the hall to Simon’s office, she couldn’t wait to get started on her new job. Gillian greeted her with a cup of coffee and a cupcake before showing her into Simon’s office. Simon was on the phone when Steph walked in and she didn’t want to intrude but Simon gestured for her to sit down. A few minutes later, he hung up and looked at Steph.

“So, are you ready to start your new job?” Simon asked.

“Yes, I am. I haven’t slept much because I’ve been too excited to sleep,” Steph replied with a smile.

“I was expecting something like that and that is why I’ve decided that today will be a relaxing day for you. As soon as we’re done here, Gillian will show you around the building and introduce you to people. I have a lunch meeting and I want you to come with me. After the lunch meeting I have arranged for you to have a meeting with the guys in your office where you can talk about what they expect of you and what you expect of them,” Simon explained.

“That sounds perfect to me,” Steph told him.

“Good. Do you have any questions?” Simon questioned.

“Not at the moment,” Steph looked at him.

“Gillian will be able to answer any questions you might have. I guess there is only one thing left to say and that is welcome on board,” Simon held out his hand to her.

“Thank you,” Steph smiled as she shook his hand.

“Are you ready for the grand tour?” Gillian asked with a smile.

“Yes, I am. I might not be able to remember any of the names when I go home tonight but I can’t wait to meet everyone,” Steph told her.

They began the grand tour and Gillian was really good at informing Steph as they went. She met nothing but smiling people and she knew that she had found the perfect place to work. Everyone told her that if she had any questions, they would be happy to help. Gillian and Steph continued with the tour and finally they reached a door with a name tag saying ‘Stephanie Petersen’ on it. Steph touched the name tag and a smile appeared on her face. She had never seen her name like that and it made her feel proud.

Gillian opened the door and revealed Steph’s office. It was the first time Steph had her own office and it was just perfect.

The Perfect Assistant Modern-office-designs-2

“If you don’t like the colors, we can always change it. So, what do you think?” Gillian looked at her.

“I like it but I might put something up on the wall,” Steph answered.

“You can do whatever you want. It’s your office. Melissa didn’t care much about the colors. Actually, she didn’t care about anything but herself,” Gillian said with anger in her voice.

“Who’s Melissa?” Steph asked her.

“The girl you have replaced. I never liked her and she only lasted 6 months,” Gillian replied.

“Because of Séb?” Steph wanted to know.

“No, she just didn’t like the job. Well, I will let you get settled and then I will see you later,” Gillian said before leaving the office.

Steph took a closer look at the office and she looked at the folders, papers and calendar on her desk. She sat down and went through everything and it felt good to see that there would be a lot for her to do in this job. Steph had spent a lot of time staring out of a window in her previous job because there had been a lot of times when there had been nothing to do. As she sat there, looking at the stuff on her desk, Steph was convinced that she had done the right thing when she applied for the job and she was ready to face every obstacle in her way; even a gorgeous Frenchman like Sébastien.

--- Urs and Alyssa ---

“When do you have to be at the meeting with Stephanie?” Alyssa asked Urs.

“Not until 3 pm. She is joining Simon for a lunch meeting,” Urs looked at her.

“Good. We need to talk about the wedding, Urs. I don’t want to get married here in London or England for that matter. I want a beach wedding with our closest friends and family around us,” Alyssa surprised him by saying.

“That is not a bad idea. Do you have any idea where you want to go?” Urs questioned as he opened his laptop.

“Well, I’ve been looking at venues in San Juan. I found The Ritz-Carlton in San Juan and I think it would be perfect for the wedding,” Alyssa replied.

Urs found the venue on the internet and he instantly knew that this was the venue for their wedding. He couldn’t think of a better place to get married to the woman he loved. Urs checked the website and found all the info he needed and without thinking too much about it, he booked the venue. Alyssa had been busy making the invitations and now she could finally add the name of the venue to them. The dress, Urs’ suit, the bridesmaid dresses and the rings had been chosen and Urs only had one thing left to do, choose his best man. He didn’t have any siblings, so it would have to be either David or Carlos because he wasn’t sure that Séb would accept. Séb still believed that Urs was making a mistake by marrying Alyssa but what was wrong with marrying the woman you loved?

Alyssa and Urs finished the invitations and Urs would make sure they were sent before he went to Steph’s meeting. After talking it over with Alyssa, Urs decided to choose Carlos as best man and he would ask him on the way to the meeting with Stephanie. He had to drop by the jewelry store on his way back from the meeting because he had to pick up Alyssa’s engagement ring. It was made especially for Alyssa and it had taken longer than expected but it was now ready and he couldn’t wait to give it to her.

It was almost time for the guys to leave for the meeting with Steph. Carlos, David and Séb were waiting for him when he came downstairs and they drove off to the meeting together. Urs asked Carlos to be his best man at the wedding and as expected, Carlos said yes. David and Séb were ok with Urs’ choice of best man because they knew that their time would come too. They talked about the upcoming world tour, the upcoming wedding and Simon’s birthday. Their schedule was busy but they didn’t mind. They loved being in Il Divo and they couldn’t wait to see their fans again.

Steph was back in her office after the lunch with Simon. It was time for her first meeting with the Divos and she was a bit nervous because she had no idea what to expect from them. She had just finished with the final arrangements when the guys walked in and Carlos was holding a large package in his hands. As he handed her the package, he explained that they thought she could use some decorations in her office and they hoped she would like it. She opened the package to find a framed picture of the guys inside. It was her favorite picture of the guys and knew exactly where to put it. After thanking them for the present, she gestured for them to sit down.

The meeting went well and even Séb behaved himself. As they walked out of her office half an hour later, Steph thought that Séb had changed his mind about her being the new PA. Gillian came to see Steph in her office and the two PA’s talked about how excited Steph was about her job and her new life. They had no idea that Séb was listening to their conversation and the minute Gillian had left, Séb made his move.

“I wouldn’t decorate too much in here if I were you,” he stepped into her office.

“Well, you’re not me. And this is my office, so I can do whatever I want to do,” Steph glanced at him as she sat down.

“I just think it’s a waste of time to put too much effort into it,” Séb walked over to her.

“Why do you think it’s a waste of time?” Steph asked.

“Because you won’t be here for long,” Séb replied with a grin.

“How can you be so sure about that?” Steph wanted to know.

“I will do what I can to make you quit your job. You’re not welcome here,” Séb stared at her.

“Just try it! I really don’t know why you hate me? You don’t even know me!” Steph was getting angry.

“You’re right about that. I don’t know you and I have no intention of getting to know you. You will be out of here within a week,” Séb walked towards the door.

“I don’t know who you think you are, Mr. Sébastien Izambard but you need to grow up. Why don’t you go home and put on some big boy pants and stop being a bully? This is my office, now get out of here,” Steph yelled at him.

As soon as Séb had left, Steph wanted to scream. Who did he think he was? He might be one of the Divos and a star but that didn’t give him the right to treat people like trash. She walked over to the window and looked out. Maybe she had been wrong about applying for the job after all. Steph was so into her thoughts that she didn’t hear Gillian knocking.

“I heard yelling. Are you ok?” Gillian walked over to her.

“I just had my first meeting with Séb and it didn’t go well,” Steph replied.

“Do you want me to tell Simon?” Gillan asked.

“No! This is my battle, not his. I will be fine,” Steph looked at her.

“Good. I think you’ve had enough excitement for one day. Let’s get out of here,” Gillian smiled at her.

“I think you’re right,” Steph agreed and picked up her things.

The two PA’s parted in the street and Steph went home where Sam was waiting for her to arrive. Sam was really excited to hear about Steph’s first day and she was shocked to hear about Steph’s meeting with the Frenchie. She knew that Séb didn’t want Steph as their PA but she never imagined that he would actually make threats. Something must have happened to make him hate women and she would do whatever she could to find out what his problem was.

On his way back from the meeting, Urs had picked up Alyssa’s engagement ring and he couldn’t wait to see her face when he gave it to her. A smile appeared on his face as he walked into his apartment. He had planned to have a romantic evening with Alyssa and he had two hours to get everything ready for the dinner. After the food had been delivered, he quickly took a shower and got dressed. He looked at his watch and he still had 20 minutes before Alyssa would get there. Urs checked everything to make sure that he hadn’t forgotten anything.

Urs had just finished in the kitchen when he heard the door open. With a smile on his face, he walked into the hall to greet his fiancé. He pulled Alyssa into his arms and kissed her deeply before telling her to get changed while he would serve dinner. Alyssa kissed his cheek before going into the bedroom to freshen up and change into something else. She returned a few minutes later in a gorgeous blue dress that she had never worn and it made Urs speechless.

The Perfect Assistant 17631-1

”What do you think?” she asked him.

“The dress is stunning and you look beautiful,” Urs reached out his hand to her.

"Urs love, you might want to wipe the drool off your face." She said as she laughed at his stunned face and open mouth.

Urs reached up and wiped his mouth, never taking his eyes off her.

Alyssa smiled as she put her hand in his and Urs led her over to the table where he pulled out a chair to her. They sat down and enjoyed their dinner as they talked about the meeting with Steph. Urs told Alyssa everything from the meeting and Alyssa was pleased to hear that the guys were happy with Steph being their new PA because she liked Steph. After finishing the main course, Urs went into the kitchen to get the dessert and as they were eating dessert, he pulled out the ring box with the engagement ring.

“I picked this up at the jewelry store today. I’m sorry it took longer than expected,” Urs opened the ring box.

“It doesn’t matter. It was worth waiting for, Urs. It’s beautiful,” Alyssa smiled at him.

“I’m glad you think so,” Urs took out the ring.

He put the ring on her finger and pulled her into a deep kiss. When they broke from the kiss, Urs blew out the candles and picked up Alyssa. He carried her into the bedroom and closed the door behind them. Soon after they were showing their love for each other and they drifted off to sleep, wrapped in each other's arms.

Chapter 10

Steph woke up Saturday morning and she couldn’t believe that she had survived her first week as PA for Il Divo. The first week had been like a rollercoaster ride for her because of Séb’s attitude towards her when they were alone. When Simon and the guys were there, Séb behaved himself but as soon as the guys and Simon had left, he turned into a monster. The man was Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Steph couldn’t believe that the man of her dreams had turned out to be her worst nightmare.

To make things worse, Simon had called her to his office before she left Friday. He told her that he wanted to see her and Séb in his office Monday morning for a meeting. Seemed like they hadn’t been doing a good job in hiding the tensions between them and Steph had a bad feeling about the meeting. She wasn’t afraid of losing her job but if Séb thought that she had been complaining to Simon, he would hate her even more and she didn’t want that.

Steph got out of bed and put on a robe before walking into the kitchen where Sam was making breakfast. She seemed to be in a really good mood and Steph knew it had to do with Carlos. She was happy for Sam because Sam really needed some romance in her life and Steph believed that Carlos was the one to show Sam what romance was all about.

“Good morning, sis. Did you sleep well?” Sam asked as she poured coffee for them.

“Morning. Yes, I slept like a baby. I guess I was more tired than I thought. It has been a rough week and I just want to relax all weekend,” Steph replied as she took a sip of her coffee.

“I had a nice dream about Carlos,” Sam said with a big smile on her face.

“Ok, I am sensing that I don’t want to know about that dream,” Steph laughed.

“You sensed correct,” Sam agreed before bursting out in laughter.

“We’re both crazy. You know that, don’t you?” Steph questioned.

“Yep, and that’s why we get along so well,” Sam hugged her.

“What are your plans for today?” Steph asked.

“I don’t have any plans,” Sam replied.

The minute she said that, her phone started ringing and a big smile appeared on her face when she saw the caller ID. It didn’t take a genius to figure out who was calling and Sam just stood there, staring at her phone.

“Answer it,” Steph said.

“Good morning,” Sam said when she finally answered the phone.

“Good morning, Sam. You’re probably wondering why I am calling you but I was thinking of something. Would you like to have dinner with me tonight?” Carlos asked, hoping she would say yes.

“I’d love to,” Sam replied with a smile.

“Good. I will pick you up at 6 pm then. I’m looking forward to seeing you again. See you later,” Carlos said before hanging up.

“That was Carlos. He asked me out tonight and he will be here at 6 pm,” Sam looked at Steph.

“That sounds great, Sam. You deserve to be happy and Carlos is a nice man,” Steph looked at her friend.

“Are you deserting Séb to become a Cutie?” Sam joked.

“I am deserting Séb but not because of the other guys. He is not the man I thought he was,” Steph sighed as she played with her coffee mug.

“I know. Something must have happened to make him hate women and I will find out what it is. Hopefully Carlos knows something,” Sam told her.

“Well, I really don’t care. I need a shower,” Steph got up and left the kitchen.

Sam watched her leave and she knew that even though Steph was a strong woman, Séb’s behavior was really getting to her. Worst case scenario was that Steph would quit her job and there was no way that Sam would allow that. Steph was the best PA the Divos would ever get and they all knew it, even the stubborn Frenchie. Sam cleaned up the kitchen and walked to her own bedroom to get dressed.

---- Alyssa and Urs ----

Alyssa was still in bed when Urs walked into the bedroom, carrying a tray with breakfast. He put down the tray before kissing her softly on her lips. Alyssa returned the kiss and her hands locked around his neck as she pulled him to her. Urs hated to pull away but he had to because they had to leave right after breakfast and he didn’t want to be late for their appointment with Alyssa’s sister, Kelly. She lived with her husband and their two boys in a house outside of London and she had invited Alyssa and Urs to spend the weekend with them.

“Are you looking forward to spending the weekend with Kelly and Michael?” Alyssa asked as she took a sip of her orange juice.

“Of course I am. I love your family and I love spending time with them,” Urs smiled at her.

“They love you too, Urs. Tommy and Jimmy want to be just like you when they grow up,” Alyssa told him.

“Is that good or bad?” Urs questioned.

“I promise you that it’s a good thing,” Alyssa answered his question with a smile.

“Glad to hear that. Let’s finish breakfast and get ready,” Urs suggested.

Alyssa nodded her head in agreement and they ate their breakfast before taking a shower. Half an hour later, they said goodbye to the guys and left. They couldn’t wait to spend a relaxing weekend with family.

After Urs and Alyssa had left, David and Carlos were talking about their plans for the evening. Carlos had a dinner date with Sam and he couldn’t wait to see her again. He had been in a relationship before but they were too much alike and they both agreed to end the relationship. She had gone back to Greece and as far as he knew, she was now happily married. It had been two years since Carlos had been out on a date but he knew that Sam was the woman he had been waiting for. They had only known each other for about a week but there was just something about Sam that made him believe that she was the one. He knew that it was impossible for a person to fall in love this quickly and he wasn’t sure if the feeling he had was love but he wanted to find out and hopefully Sam felt the same way.

David had got plans too and those plans involved Carla. She had invited him to dinner at her place and he couldn’t wait to see her again. They had known each other for three weeks but David had never felt closer to anyone and he wanted to take the relationship to the next level. David knew that they had both agreed to take things slow but everything about the relationship just seemed right. He didn’t want to ruin things between them, so he decided to stick to their agreement for now.

“What are your plans for tonight, Séb?” Carlos asked.

“Don’t have any plans. I might go to the movies or just stay here and write songs. Don’t know yet,” Séb replied without looking at him.

“The movies sound like a good idea. It will give you a chance to get out of here and I think you need that,” David stated his opinion.

“You might be right but as I said, I don’t know yet,” Séb looked at his friends.

“Can I ask you something without getting my head ripped off?” Carlos looked at him.

“If it has to do with Melissa, then forget it. I am not talking about her. The woman is a cold hearted witch and I hate her,” Séb glanced at them.

“She is a witch and she did hurt you badly but you have to let it go,” David said.

“That is easy for you to say, David. You haven’t been played by a woman,” Séb pointed out to him.

“I know that but you really have to let it go,” David padded him on the shoulder.

“I will let it go when I am ready to do so,” Séb stood and walked away.

“We have to do something about him,” David looked at Carlos.

“I don’t think there is anything we can do. We just have to give him time to heal,” Carlos said.

“You’re right. I just wish that he would stop taking his anger out on other women,” David poured himself another glass of juice.

“Yes, so do I. Well, I have some things to do before my date tonight. See you later,” Carlos walked out.

David picked up his juice and walked to his own apartment. He too had some things to take care of before his date with Carla.

---- Later that day ----

Steph was watching a movie while Sam was getting dressed for her dinner with Carlos. She had been in the bedroom for 20 minutes and she had been changing outfits at least ten times. Each time she would ask Steph how she looked and each time Steph had given her the same answer. After trying on ten outfits, Sam finally decided on a simple, red dress.

“Can you get that?” Sam yelled from her bedroom when the doorbell rang.

“Yes,” Steph yelled back before walking into the hall.

“Hi, Stephanie. How are you?” Carlos kissed her cheek.

“I’m ok. Relaxing after a rough week at work,” Steph smiled at him.

“Sorry about Séb giving you a hard time. For what it is worth, the guys and I think you’re doing a great job so far,” Carlos told her.

“Thanks, Carlos. Sam is not ready yet but you can wait in the living room,” Steph showed him the way.

They walked into the living room and they were talking when Sam came out of the bedroom. She looked beautiful as always and Steph couldn’t help but smile when she saw Carlos look at Sam. Anyone could see that these two people were attracted to each other and Steph was happy for both of them. As she watched them, she wondered if there was someone out there for her too. Someone who wasn’t afraid to talk about feelings, and someone who would actually love her.

Carlos and Sam said goodbye and left the apartment, leaving Steph alone with her movie. She had found a movie at the cinema that she wanted to see but the thought of going alone didn’t appeal to her. On the other hand, she had to get used to being alone. She turned off the TV and changed her clothes before she left the apartment.

Meanwhile at the Divo building, Séb was getting dressed to go out. He had decided to go to the cinema and maybe check out one of the clubs afterwards. Séb locked up his apartment and walked downstairs to get his jacket. He closed and locked the front door behind him before he walked to the cinema. There was no need to take the car because the cinema was 10 minutes away by foot and a little air wouldn’t kill him.

Séb was in a good mood when he arrived at the cinema but when he spotted a familiar face in the crowd, his mood went from good to bad. ‘Why do you hate me so much, God? What have I ever done to you? All I am asking for is a nice evening at the cinema and you can’t even give me that’ Séb thought to himself as he looked up into the sky. Well, maybe there was a way to make her leave. With a wicked smile on his face, Séb walked over to Steph and tapped her on the shoulder.

---- Carlos and Sam ----

At the restaurant, Carlos and Sam were enjoying their dinner. They had been sharing stories and there was something that Sam wanted to ask him all evening but she wasn’t sure if it was a good idea to ask.

“What’s on your mind?” Carlos surprised her by asking.

“Well, it has to do with Séb but I am not sure it’s any of my business,” Sam said, biting her lip.

“Séb is not here, Sam. Just ask what you want,” Carlos smiled.

“Ok. Why does he hate women?” Sam looked at him.

“He got hurt by our former PA, Melissa. She was a beautiful woman and I think that we all, except for Urs, had crushes on her but Séb was the lucky one. After 6 months, Melissa left without a word and we have no idea why she left or where she is. Simon has been trying to contact her but she seems to have vanished,” Carlos replied.

“Well, I can understand that he feels betrayed by Melissa but not all women are like that. And it’s wrong of him to treat Steph the way he does. She is not to blame for what happened with Melissa and she certainly doesn’t need someone like Séb to make her feel like she is worthless. Steph is finally happy and I want her to stay happy,” Sam told him.

“What do you mean by Steph is finally happy?” Carlos asked.

“To make a long story short, she got divorced before she came here. Although she doesn’t know anything for certain, she believes that her ex cheated on her and I believe she is right. From what she has told me, it seems like he was cheating on her,” Sam answered his question.

“Sounds to me like she is better off without him and she will meet someone,” Carlos looked at Sam.

“I hope so. She was really looking forward to working with you guys and especially Séb because she is or was a Siren. After working with him for a week, she is no longer a Siren,” Sam told him.

“Well, we just have to convince Séb to put the whole Melissa story behind him and move on,” Carlos said with a smile.

“Good luck with that,” Sam smiled back.

---- At the cinema ----

“We need to talk,” Séb said to Steph as they were outside of the cinema.

“I really don’t have anything to talk to you about,” Steph told him.

“Yes, you do. Come with me,” Séb took her hand and led her away from the crowd.

“What is on your mind?” Steph asked as she glanced at him.

“Well, the meeting with Simon is on my mind. I can’t believe that you actually went to him and complained about me,” Séb replied as he stared at her.

“I didn’t talk to Simon. I mentioned to Gillian that you and I had a meeting but I made her promise not to tell Simon. Besides, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that you and I have issues. Simon is not stupid and you’ve made it clear to everyone that you don’t like me or want me here,” Steph pointed out to him.

“That’s true but I still think that you had something to do with it,” Séb moved closer to her.

“I had nothing to do with that meeting. It’s Simon’s idea but I personally think he is wasting his time. You don’t like me and I don’t like you,” Steph raised her voice.

“Don’t you raise your voice, missy!” Séb raised his voice too.

“Don’t call me missy and you have no right telling me what to do. Enjoy your movie! I’m out of here,” she yelled at him before walking away.

After Steph had left, Séb walked home. He was not in the mood to watch a movie after this. The girl was a pain and he couldn’t wait to get rid of her. Hopefully Simon would take care of that Monday morning. When he came home, he went straight into the music room and wrote a new song. It was the only way he could get all of his emotions out and he had a lot of emotions locked up inside of him.

Steph arrived home too and she needed someone to talk to but all of her friends in London were on dates with the men they were falling in love with. She went into the kitchen and grabbed a coke from the fridge before going to her bedroom. After changing her clothes, Steph sat down on the bed with her laptop. She needed to talk to someone and she logged onto MSN, hoping one of her friends would be online but they are all showing as offline. Steph closed her laptop and turned out the light. Maybe things would look better tomorrow.

Chapter 11

---- Sam and Carlos ----

After having a great time at dinner, Carlos drove Sam home and he walked her up to the apartment. He couldn’t believe how well they connected and as he looked at her, he knew that he had found the woman he had been searching for. Sam felt the same way about Carlos. She had been a Cutie since the beginning of Il Divo but she had only known the Divo part of him. Not that she thought he was a bad person outside of Divo world but it was nice to see the real Carlos Marin.

“I had a great time tonight and I would like to go out with you again,” Carlos said as he removed a strand of hair from her face.

“Well, all you have to do is ask,” Sam looked into his eyes.

“How does tomorrow night sound?” Carlos asked.

“I promised Steph that we would spend the evening at home, cooking and watching chick movies,” Sam replied.

“Oh, ok!” Carlos tried to hide his disappointment.

“I just had an idea. Why don’t you and Séb come here for dinner?” Sam looked at him.

“Are you sure that’s a good idea? I don’t want Séb to ruin the evening,” Carlos voiced his concern.

“Well, you are the one who said that he has to move on. This is the perfect chance,” Sam smiled at him.

“I hope you know what you are doing and I hope Steph will be ok with having Séb around,” Carlos said.

“I know what I’m doing but I don’t think Steph will love me for inviting Séb over. Well, I live here too and he will be my guest,” Sam admitted.

“That’s true. Well, I should leave. I will see you tomorrow,” Carlos moved closer to Sam.

Sam looked at him as he moved closer and she knew what was going to happen. She had been dreaming about this moment for a very long time and now it was finally happening. Sam could feel Carlos’ breathe on her face and she closed her eyes when his lips made contact with hers. The kiss was better than she had imagined and she could feel it all the way down to her toes. After they broke from the kiss, Carlos said goodnight and Sam watched him leave. It had been the best night ever and she couldn’t wait to tell Steph about it. With a smile on her face, Sam walked into the apartment and got ready for bed. She drifted off to sleep, thinking of Carlos.

---- Carla and David ----

After finishing their dinner, Carla told David that he could take a look at the apartment while she cleared the table. David offered to help her but she insisted and David didn’t want to discuss it with her. When he took a look around the living room, he noticed that Carla had the Star Wars collection box and he couldn’t stop smiling. It seemed like there was still a lot of things he needed to learn about Carla and he couldn’t wait to learn all about her.

David continued with his own personal tour in Carla’s apartment and he ended up in her bedroom. Carla had finished clearing the table and she joined him by the bedroom door. He turned around and looked at her and suddenly he pulled her close and kissed her deeply. Carla pulled away from him and David wasn’t sure if he had done anything wrong. She just kept staring at him and David didn’t know what to do.

“I should probably leave,” David said and walked towards the door.

“No, please stay!” Carla walked after him.

“Why should I stay?” David asked as he looked at her.

“Because I’m asking you to stay,” Carla replied as she looked down at the floor.

“Are you sure?” David put his hand under her chin and raised her head to look at him.

“Yes, I am sure,” Carla kissed him.

David returned the kiss as he picked her up and carried her into the bedroom. They slowly undressed each other before he carried her over to the bed to show her how special she was to him. As they joined as one, both of them knew that they had found the love they had both been waiting for. They drifted off to sleep in each other’s arms, dreaming of the passionate love making they had just shared.

---- Next morning ----

When Steph walked out of her bedroom, she could hear Sam singing in the kitchen. Sam singing this early could only mean one thing; her date with Carlos had been a success. Steph stopped in the doorway to the kitchen and cleared her throat. Sam turned around and looked at Steph.

“Did I wake you up?” Sam asked.

“No, I’ve been awake for a few hours. Sounds like your date with Carlos went well,” Steph poured a glass of juice.

“Yes, it did. He walked me home and then he kissed me,” Sam said, her eyes sparkling.

"I'm glad you had a great date with Carlos." Steph smiled.

"Thanks, sis. How was the movie?" Sam asked

"I don't know. I didn't watch it because something ruined my plans," Steph replied.

"In other words, you ran into Séb," Sam surprised her by saying.

"Yes, I did and as usual we argued," Steph said.

"And you ran away as always," Sam continued.

"Yes, I did. He just gets on my nerves," Steph snapped at her.

"Ok, we can continue this conversation when you've calmed down," Sam looked at her.

"That sounds like a good idea and we do have all day. I'm sorry for snapping at you but it's just so frustrating," Steph said.

"Apology accepted and it's frustrating because you like Séb. About having all day to talk, I've got something to tell you. Carlos asked me out again tonight but I told him of our plans," Sam said.

"And? There is something you're not telling me, sis. Out with it," Steph demanded.

"I invited him to have dinner with us here," Sam told her.

"Wait a minute, sis! You've asked your boyfriend to have dinner with us and I just have to sit and watch the two of you all evening? That sounds like fun," Steph was disappointed and she didn't hide it.

"Carlos is not my boyfriend, Steph. I admit that he has gone from being a singer I like to be the man who could be my true love but he is not my boyfriend. And you won’t exactly be alone with me and Carlos as he is bringing a friend,” Sam said without looking at Steph.

"You didn't do that. Please tell me that you didn't invite Séb," Steph begged.

"I'm sorry," Sam looked at her.

"Have you lost your mind? How could you do that to me?" Steph got up and walked to the window.

"Carlos and I thought it would be a good idea. It might give the two of you a chance to get to know each other outside of Divo world," Sam replied.

"You should have cancelled our plans and gone out with Carlos. Being home alone would have been better than having Séb here," Steph turned to look at her.

"Just try. For me," Sam walked over to her.

"Fine. I will try to get along with him. For you and Carlos," Steph looked at her.

"Thanks," Sam hugged her.

Steph and Sam sat down and talked about what to make for dinner. Half an hour later, they were on their way to the store to buy groceries and drinks for dinner. The two friends had a great time and they couldn’t wait to spend the day together, cooking dinner and just talking.

Over at the Divo house, Carlos and Séb had the house to themselves. Carlos was in a good mood but Séb was anything but happy. First there was the meeting with Steph outside of the cinema and then there was the fact that David hadn’t come home after his date with Carla. His brothers were being played by women and they didn’t even know it. Well, he would never allow himself to get trapped by a woman again.

“Any plans for tonight?” Carlos asked Séb as they were in Carlos’ apartment having breakfast.

“Not really! I was thinking of spending the evening here,” Séb replied.

“Well, I won’t allow that. We are having dinner with Sam and Steph,” Carlos said to him.

“What? Could you please say that again?” Séb wasn’t sure he had heard him right.

“You heard me the first time. You’re coming with me and that’s the end of it,” Carlos told him.

“Fine,” Séb snapped at him before leaving.

Carlos watched him leave and he knew the odds of a nice dinner were really low but he would do whatever he could to stop Séb from ruining the dinner.

---- Later that day ----

Sam and Steph had been really busy all day and they took turns in watching the food and taking showers. The food was almost ready and Sam was looking forward to seeing Carlos again. Steph was not in a good mood and Sam started to believe that maybe inviting Séb was a bad idea. There was no way that Séb and Steph would get along and Sam feared the evening would be a big disaster. Letting out a sigh, she took a quick look in the dining room to make sure that everything was ok.

The clock hit 7 pm and she almost freaked out when she heard the doorbell ringing. Steph was still in her bedroom getting dressed and Sam removed her apron before walking to the door. She opened the door to see Carlos and Séb standing there and they both looked extremely handsome.

“Welcome to our apartment,” Sam smiled as she stepped aside and let them in.

“Thank you for the invite,” Séb said before kissing her cheeks.

“No problem. I’m glad you decided to come,” Sam smiled at him.

“What about me?” Carlos asked.

“I’m glad you’re here too,” Sam kissed him.

“Where is Steph?” Carlos looked at Sam.

“I’m here,” Steph replied and they all turned to look at her.

Steph walked over to them and greeted them. Carlos kissed her cheeks and Séb surprised everyone when he did the same but it wasn’t the only thing he did. Sam asked Steph to show their guests into the dining room while she would get the food but Carlos insisted on helping Sam in the kitchen. Steph and Séb went into the dining room and sat down without saying a word to each other.

“Nice apartment you have here,” Séb suddenly said.

“Thanks. Gillian did a good job with this place.” Steph looked at him.

She couldn’t believe that he was actually talking to her like a normal person after what he had whispered in her ear in the hallway. Well, she didn’t want him to ruin the evening so she just played along. Sam and Carlos walked into the dining room with the food and they were surprised to see Steph and Séb talking like two adults. Well, maybe there was hope for them after all.

Sam felt good when she saw Séb and Steph getting along during dinner and looking at Carlos, she knew he felt the same way. There seemed to be no hate or anything between the two of them and they were talking like they had known each other forever.

After finishing dinner, Sam told Steph to show Séb around the apartment while she would clear the table and make coffee. Steph did as requested and she gave Séb the big tour of the apartment. In the kitchen Sam and Carlos were talking about how well things were going but there was something they didn’t know, something that would reveal itself later that evening.

Steph and Séb returned to the living room and sat down. Sam and Carlos joined them a few minutes later and they enjoyed the rest of the evening. It was almost 11 pm when the guys decided it was time to leave after a great evening. Carlos and Séb said goodbye to the girls and walked out of the door.

“Thank goodness. This has been the longest evening of my life,” Séb said as they walked down the stairs.

“What are you talking about? I thought you were having a good time,” Carlos was shocked.

“I’m a great actor. Those acting lessons were worth every penny,” Séb replied with a smile.

“I can’t believe you would do something like that,” Carlos looked at him.

“You’re the one who forced me to come. I didn’t want to be here in the first place,” Séb said.

Carlos didn’t say anything. He didn’t know what to say. They drove home without saying a word to each other and when they came home, they only said goodnight before walking to their apartments. Carlos was not pleased with Séb’s behavior but there was nothing he could do. He would talk to Sam the next day and hopefully she wouldn’t be too disappointed.

After the guys had left, Steph walked into her bedroom without saying goodnight to Sam. She was not in a good mood right now and she needed some time alone. Steph had hoped that Sam would just go to bed but she wasn’t that lucky.

“Are you ok, sis?” Sam opened the door to Steph’s room.

“No, I am not ok. I hate that guy!” Steph replied.

“I thought the two of you were getting along. What happened?” Sam sat down on the bed.

“I heard him and Carlos talking on the stairs. According to Séb this had been the longest evening in his life and his acting lessons had been worth every penny but that’s not the worst part. When they arrived, Séb kissed me on the cheeks but he also whispered something in my ear,” Steph answered her question.

“I don’t believe this. He seemed like he was having a great time. Anyway, what did he say to you?” Sam asked.

“When he kissed my cheeks, he whispered that the kisses didn’t mean anything,” Steph looked at Sam.

“What are we going to do about him?” Sam got up.

“I don’t know and I really don’t care. Now, I want to sleep and forget about this night. I have a meeting with Simon tomorrow morning,” Steph said.

“I know. Goodnight sis and sweet dreams,” Sam said with a smile.

“Goodnight. Sweet dreams,” Steph turned out the lights.

As she walked into her own bedroom, Sam thought back on the evening. It had been a great evening and she couldn’t stop wondering if Séb actually had a great time but didn’t want to admit it. Well, she still had hope that he would change his attitude towards Steph but she also knew that it might never happen. She turned out the lights and drifted off to sleep, thinking about Carlos.

Chapter 12

Steph was up early the next morning. She hadn’t slept much because of Séb and the meeting with Simon, not that she was worried about the meeting but she had a feeling that Séb would try something. Steph let out a yawn before getting out of bed. After having a shower and getting dressed for the day, she walked into the kitchen to make some coffee. While she was waiting for the coffee to get ready, she grabbed a box of cereal from the cupboard and poured some into a bowl. She sat down and enjoyed her breakfast.

After finishing her breakfast, Steph walked into the bathroom and brushed her teeth. She gently opened the door to Sam’s room and she found Sam sleeping peacefully, so she closed the door and walked into the hallway to pick up her purse and jacket. Steph left the apartment and went to work, not sure what to expect.

When she walked down the corridor to her office, she could see the door was open and she could hear a voice coming from the office. She knew that voice and she felt an anger building up inside of her. As she slowly opened the door, she saw Séb sitting in her chair with his feet up on the desk. He was talking on the phone and he didn’t notice Steph walking through the door.

“What are you doing in my office?” Steph asked him as she pushed his feet off her desk.

“I have to go now. The PA just arrived and she is a bit bossy,” Séb hung up and looked at Steph.

“Get out of my chair right now,” Steph tried to stay calm but he wasn’t making it easy.

“No, it’s nice and comfy. We need to talk,” Séb smiled at her.

“We can talk when you get your butt out of my chair,” Steph looked at him.

“As you wish,” Séb got up and sat down in a chair on the other side of the desk.

“Good. Now, what do you want to talk about?” Steph sat down.

“I wanted to say thank you for a wonderful evening last night. I had a great time,” Séb told her.

“You had a great time? You had a great time on the longest night of your life? That makes sense,” Steph glared at him.

“Oh, I didn’t know you heard that,” Séb said.

“Well, I did and you’re right about one thing. You’re a great actor,” Steph told him.

“Thanks. Now, what I really wanted to talk about is our meeting with Simon. I think it would be a good idea if you told Simon that you’re going back to Copenhagen,” Séb suggested.

“What? You want me to tell Simon that I quit my job? Not in a million years. Do you honestly think that I would give you what you want?” Steph was getting angry.

“If you don’t, then I will make sure that you quit. I will get what I want,” Séb got up and walked over to her side of the desk.

“Not if I can help it. Get out of my office right now,” Steph got up too.

“Just remember this, sweetheart. I’m a Divo and I can’t be replaced. You’re nothing more than a PA,” Séb whispered in her ear.

“I told you to get out of here,” Steph took a step towards him as she raised her voice.

“Wow, you’re feisty little one,” Séb grinned.

“Oh, believe me. You haven’t seen the worst part of me yet,” Steph looked at him.

“That sounds interesting. Well, bring it on. Give me your best shot,” Séb provoked her.

That was the comment that pushed Steph over the edge. She raised her hand and slapped him, not hard but enough to make him stop smiling. They both stood there looking at each other without saying a word because they were both shocked about what had just happened.

“I will see you in Simon’s office and then you can say goodbye to working with us,” Séb walked towards the door.

“Well, if women can deal with losing boyfriends and cheating husbands, then they can deal with losing singers,” Steph told him.

When he heard those words, he turned around and looked at her without saying anything. He didn’t know why but that comment made him want to do some research on Steph. Getting information from Simon was out of the question but maybe Carlos knew something? When two women are as close as Steph and Sam, they tell each other things and maybe Sam had told Carlos something. Well, he would have to ask Carlos later.

Steph watched him leave and suddenly she realized what that slap could mean. If Séb told Simon about it, then she would be on the first flight out of London. ‘Way to go, Stephanie. You just blew it big time. Don’t let him get to you like that. You don’t even like the guy, so why do you react so strongly to what he says? If you want to stay in this job, you have to learn to control that temper of yours’ Steph thought to herself.

A few minutes after Séb had left the office, Gillian called Steph to tell her that Simon had to postpone the meeting for about half an hour. Steph picked up a cup of coffee before checking her e-mails but she had a hard time focusing on work right now. It was a welcoming break when Sam suddenly showed up with two cups of coffee and croissants.

“I thought you had a meeting,” Sam handed her the coffee.

“Simon had to postpone it. What are you doing here?” Steph sipped her coffee.

“Well, I just wanted to see how you were doing and check out your office. I love it and I love the picture on your wall,” Sam replied.

“The guys gave me that,” Steph said with a smile.

“Doesn’t Carlos look great in that picture?” Sam sighed as she looked at it.

“They all do,” Steph pointed out.

“Yes, but Carlos is special. He is just so wonderful, handsome, charming and sexy. He is just perfect,” Sam swooned.

“Are you done now?” Steph asked, rather annoyed.

“Are you ok?” Sam sat down across from Steph.

“No, I am not ok. Why did you get the good one?” Steph looked at the picture on the wall.
“They are both good. Séb is just going through stuff,” Sam responded.

“Well, so am I but I’m not acting like a b….! I was cheated on, I was kicked out of my house and I just went through a divorce but I am still not acting like a b….!” Steph pointed out to her.

“I know that. Sorry,” Sam hugged her.

“It’s ok. I just thought that Séb was the picture of romance but now it turns out that my dream man is a jerk. Guess I don’t have much luck with men,” Steph returned to her chair and sat down with tears in her eyes.

“Just give it time,” Sam took her hand.

The two girls continued to talk and Steph filled Sam in on what she did to Séb. Sam was shocked to hear about it but Séb deserved it. The conversation was interrupted by Gillian who called Steph to tell her that Simon was ready for the meeting. Steph looked at Sam when she hung up the phone and she took a deep breath before she walked towards Simon’s office.

Séb was talking to Gillian when she got there and they looked at each other without saying a word. Séb opened the door after knocking and he closed the door behind them. What would happen in Simon’s office? Was this the end of Steph’s adventure in London?

---- Carla’s home ----

David and Carla were still in bed and they didn’t really feel like getting out. Carla loved feeling David’s arm around her and she knew in her heart that they had done the right thing. She looked at David but he was staring at the ceiling and it made her wonder if he had any regrets about their night together.

“Do you regret spending the night with me?” Carla asked.

“What? No! Why would you ask something like that?” David looked at her.

“Well, you just seemed far away,” Carla replied.

“I’m sorry. I was just thinking of how right it feels to be here with you,” David kissed her forehead.

“I feel the same way. What time is it?” Carla asked.

“Almost 9.30,” David pulled her closer.

“I have to get ready for a meeting,” Carla reluctantly slipped out of David’s embrace.

“Ok. I should probably go home. Urs and Alyssa wanted to talk to us about the wedding. Speaking of the wedding, will you be my date?” David got out of the bed.

“Yes, I would love to,” Carla smiled at him.

“Good. You go ahead and have your shower and I will see you tonight for dinner,” David kissed her.

“I can’t wait,” Carla walked into the bathroom while David got dressed.

After getting dressed, David went home to spend some time with the other guys but the only one there was Carlos. Urs had to talk to Simon about the travel plans to San Juan and Séb was in a meeting with Simon and Steph. Carlos told David of the dinner with Sam and Steph and David wasn’t surprised to hear about Séb’s behavior. The old Séb would have never done something like that. Even though David didn’t want to see Melissa after what she had done to Séb, he kind of hoped that she would show up and tell Séb why she left. Maybe then Séb could stop being a jerk.

David and Carlos were talking when Urs, Alyssa and Sam walked in. Sam had met both of them when she came to see Steph in the office and it turned out that Urs had been the reason for Simon postponing the meeting with Steph and Séb. Alyssa had asked her to join them at the house to talk about the wedding and Sam had accepted. Since Séb was still in a meeting with Simon, they couldn’t talk about the wedding but that didn’t stop them from having a good time.

---- Simon’s office ----

“How are things going with the two of you working together?” Simon looked at Steph and Séb.

“Great. No problems so far,” Séb replied as he looked at Steph.

“Is that true, Stephanie?” Simon asked.

Steph looked at both of them. She didn’t know what to say because Séb’s answer to Simon made no sense to her. What was Séb doing? He had the chance to get rid of her and he didn’t. All he had to do was to say that Steph had slapped him and she would be out of there. Was this just another one of his twisted games or ? Could she have been wrong about him after all? No, it would have to be a game and Steph was convinced that as soon as they had left the office, Séb would go back to being a jerk.

“Stephanie?” Simon looked at her.

“Yes, it’s true. Everything is fine,” Steph told him.

“I’m glad to hear that. Well, I guess that was it then unless you have something you want to talk about,” Simon said.

Steph and Séb looked at each other, then at Simon shaking their heads no. Simon got up walked them to the door and closed it behind them. As soon as they were gone, Simon started wondering if they had been telling him the truth. Well, he hoped they had because with the tour only a month away, the last thing he needed was to lose another PA. He returned to his desk and made a few phone calls to Paris to check up on the project he was working on there.

Séb said goodbye and walked out of there, leaving Steph to wonder what he was up to. Steph walked back to her office and found a note from Sam telling her to join her at the guys’ house when she was done. She sat down and went through the calendar on her desk. The guys had two interviews and a TV performance to do this week and Steph had already taken care of everything. She made a few phone calls and she had just finished a phone call when Simon walked in.

“I just wanted to know if everything is ready for the interview tomorrow,” Simon sat down.

“Everything is ready for both interviews and the TV performance,” Steph told him.

Simon was impressed with Steph’s ability to look ahead and he wished that he had found her earlier. She was a gift sent from heaven and Simon couldn’t imagine not having her around. As a reward for her hard work, he told her to take the rest of the day off and relax with her friends. Steph didn’t need to hear that twice and she thanked him before leaving the office. She was looking forward to hear about the wedding plans and spend time with her friends.

Meanwhile Séb had arrived home and he was hanging up his coat when he heard the name Steph being mentioned. Normally he didn’t eavesdrop on people’s conversation but this one could be interesting as he wanted to find out why Steph had made the comment earlier. When he heard about Mark and what he had done, Séb suddenly realized that he wasn’t the only one who had been hurt. He walked into the room and said hi to his friends before sitting down.

“I think you guys need some time alone to talk. Sam and I will go upstairs and look at the dresses. Please tell Steph to join us when she gets here,” Alyssa looked at Urs.

“We will do that,” Urs kissed her.

“See you later,” Alyssa said as they walked upstairs to Urs’ apartment.

“So, only a few more weeks and you’ll be married,” David padded Urs on the shoulder.

“Yes, I know and I can’t wait,” Urs smiled.

“What is wrong with you guys? Are you all mental? Women are evil,” Séb voiced his opinion.

“Not this again. Alyssa is nothing like Melissa and the same goes for Sam, Carla and Steph,” Urs looked at him.

“I agree. You can’t judge every woman because of what Melissa did,” Carlos agreed.

“Yes, I can. I don’t trust women. They lie and cheat,” Séb said.

“Well, men do too,” Urs pointed out.

“I couldn’t care less. I’ve asked Carla to be my date,” David told them.

“And I will ask Sam to be my date,” Carlos continued.

“Whatever. I don’t need one,” Séb looked at them.

“Why don’t you need a date?” Urs asked.

“I won’t be at the wedding. I refuse to watch my good friend marry his life away,” Séb responded.

“If you are his friend, you will be there,” Carlos raised his voice.

Séb looked at his friends without saying anything. He knew they were right but he just wished they could see things from his point of view. Just as he was about to speak, there was a knock on the door. He got up and walked into the hallway to open the door.

“Are the girls here?” Steph asked him.

“Upstairs in Urs’ apartment,” Séb looked at her.

“Thanks,” Steph smiled at him.

She took off her coat and briefly said hello to the guys before walking upstairs. Séb joined the other guys and as he sat down, they all stared at him like he had done something wrong.

“What?” Séb looked at them.

“Nothing,” Urs replied as he looked at the other guys.

Chapter 13

“You’re cheerful. What happened?” Alyssa asked when Steph walked in with a big smile on her face.

“I’m just happy to be alive,” Steph replied.

“You have to explain that,” Sam looked at her.

“Well, I managed to get into the Divo building without Séb slamming the door in my face,” Steph walked over to her.

“Séb let you in without saying or doing anything?” Alyssa was surprised to hear that.

“Yes, he did. Looks like the slap had more effect on him than I thought,” Steph laughed.

Sam and Alyssa started laughing too and they were laughing when Carla walked in.

“Hi girls! What did I miss?” Carla suddenly said.

The girls filled her in and Carla couldn’t stop laughing either. They all would have loved to see Séb’s face when Steph’s hand made contact with it. Although the girls hadn’t known each for long, they seemed to be getting along great and they had a good time in Urs’ apartment, talking about the wedding. Only a few more days and they would be off to San Juan.

The guys joined them upstairs and Urs asked Steph, Sam and Carla to stay for dinner as he wanted all of his friends, old and new, with him. Steph wasn’t sure about staying because being surrounded by couples made her feel like an outsider but she finally accepted the offer because these people were her friends.

“I think I will decline,” Séb looked at Urs.

“You just said that you wanted to stay. What has made you change your mind?” Urs asked him.

“I think it’s me, Urs. Well, I will make it easier for all of you. Enjoy your dinner,” Steph walked out of the apartment.

The others glanced at Séb and suddenly he felt really small. His decision had nothing to do with Steph but he could understand why Steph and his friends would think so. He hadn’t been nice to Steph and of course him declining right after Steph announced she would stay for dinner didn’t help the situation.

“Excuse me,” Séb turned and walked out of the apartment.

“This is so much fun,” Carlos sat down.

“Poor Steph. He is not making things easy for her,” David looked at the others.

“I honestly don’t get him at all. One minute he is acting like a jerk and the next he is a sweet guy. I think Steph is right. He is Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,” Sam said.

“Hopefully he will stop this behavior soon. I think I speak for everyone when I say it’s getting annoying. He told me that he isn’t coming to our wedding,” Urs looked at Alyssa.

“What? Why?” Alyssa walked over to him.

“He refuses to watch me marry my life away,” Urs replied truthfully.

“I really hope he will change his mind. We should be surrounded by our friends and family on our wedding day,” Alyssa kissed his cheek.

“I hope he will too. I want all of the guys to be there,” Urs said.

“We will all be there for you, Urs. I will personally beat some sense into Séb,” Carlos stood.

“You will have to get in line,” David added.

Meanwhile Séb was trying to catch up with Steph and he called her name as he walked after her. Steph had heard him calling for her but she didn’t feel like talking to him and she just kept walking. Suddenly she felt someone grab her arm and she turned around to see Séb standing there.

“What do you want?” she asked.

“I just wanted to tell you that I didn’t change my mind about dinner because of you,” Séb replied.

“Well, I find that a little hard to believe,” Steph stared at him.

“Believe what you want but it’s the truth. You might be ok with being surrounded by couples but I’m not,” Séb told her.

“Oh, I thought I was the only one who felt like that,” Steph confessed.

“If you didn’t want to stay for dinner, then why did you say yes?” Séb asked.

“Because they are my friends,” Steph looked at him.

“Well, our friends will rip my head off if I come back alone and I really don’t want that. Would you mind coming with me?” Séb smiled.

“Let me see. If they rip your head off, it will most likely be the end of Il Divo and I would be without a job. I don’t want that, so the answer is yes,” Steph replied.

They walked back to the apartment and it turned out to be a good evening after all. Séb and Steph were getting along and everyone believed that from now on things would be ok between them and maybe this was the first step towards something more. Little did they know that something or someone would cause problems for Séb and Steph!

Over the next few days the guys did their interviews and the TV performance and the girls were getting ready to go to San Juan. Carlos had asked Sam to be his date for the wedding, just as David had asked Carla to be his date. They couldn’t wait to get to San Juan and they were looking forward to the wedding. Séb hadn’t changed his mind about going and no matter what the others said or did they couldn’t make him change his mind. Urs tried to pretend that it didn’t bother him but he wasn’t a good actor.

“We are getting married, Urs. I know you want Séb to be there but he has made up his mind. I am not calling off the wedding because he is stubborn,” Alyssa told him the evening before they had to leave for San Juan.

“I don’t want to call off the wedding either but he is my friend and I want him to be there,” Urs walked over to her.

“I know you do but he is a grown man and you can’t force him to go,” Alyssa reminded him.

“You’re right. We have to get up early tomorrow and we should get some sleep,” Urs kissed her.

Séb was standing by his bedroom window, looking out into the night and he was wondering if he should attend the wedding. Urs was his friend and even though it didn’t seem like it, Séb really wanted his friend to be happy and Alyssa was the woman who made Urs happy. Deep down he wanted to be there for Urs but he still had the feeling that Urs was throwing his life away. ‘Damn you Melissa! This is all your fault’ Séb thought as he walked back to bed. He drifted off to sleep, not knowing if he should go to San Juan with his friends or not.

Carlos, Urs and David were in the games room getting ready to leave when Séb came down the stairs. He had no suitcase in his hand and the guys knew he wouldn’t be joining them in San Juan. Carlos and David said goodbye to Séb and left the building, leaving Urs and Séb to talk.

“I really wish you would change your mind,” Urs looked at him.

“I spent last night thinking about what to do and I really want to be there for you but I can’t. I know you guys all think that I’m being a jerk and you’re right,” Séb said.

“No, jerk is not the word I would use to describe you at the moment. I think selfish is better because you put your feelings and your wants before anyone else’s lately. You have hurt and caused a lot of pain to a lot of people since Melissa left and that is totally unfair to the rest of us! We all would like answers but she is not here to give them, so we just have to move on and deal with it. I understand you’re hurting because you were in an intimate relationship with her but for God’s sake, stop taking all of your anger out on the rest of us,” Urs raised his voice.

He didn’t mean to raise his voice but he was fed up with Séb’s attitude and if Séb wanted to stay away his wedding, then so be it. It was Séb’s decision and there was nothing Urs could do to make him change his mind.

“I am not trying to put everyone down but Melissa hurt me in a way that I am not sure how to get over. Why did she leave and say nothing, most of all to me? I don’t trust any woman now and I still think you’re making a mistake to marry Alyssa. How do you know she won’t hurt you in the end?” Séb couldn’t really see beyond his own pain and he was transferring it to all women.

“Sébastien, you can’t let this turn you off women altogether. It happened and you need to move on and find a woman you will love in the future. It will take time but you can’t live this way forever. You have shut yourself off from all of us and we were like brothers. If you don’t want to come to the wedding, then that’s your choice but remember that I will never forgive you for not coming. And I suggest that you keep your opinions on my marriage and Alyssa to yourself. I’ve had enough,” Urs picked up his suitcase and walked towards the door.

“Urs, you have to understand where I am coming from,” Séb said.

Séb didn’t think that Urs understood just how much Melissa’s leaving had hurt him but he didn’t think any of the guys would understand, so he kept the pain he felt under wraps.

“Séb, I do understand but enough is enough and it’s my wedding. You’re supposed to be my brother and this is how you treat your family? Well, stay away from the wedding if that is how you feel because I don’t want anything or anyone upsetting the happiest day of my life. Goodbye Séb,” Urs walked out of the door, closing it behind him.

As soon as Urs had left the building, Séb locked the door and walked upstairs to his own apartment. Urs’ words kept running around in his head and those words had really given him something to think about. Did he really want to let what happened with Melissa destroy his relationship with Urs and his brothers? He went into the bedroom and lay down on the bed. What was he supposed to do? Séb closed his eyes and once again Urs’ words played around in his head. Suddenly he knew what he had to do and he picked up his phone and dialed a number.

“It’s me, Sébastien. I need your help,” Séb said to the person on the other end of the phone.

Chapter 14

Urs didn’t say much on the way to the airport. The others looked at each other but they all knew that they should just leave him alone for now. Maybe they could talk about it when they arrived in San Juan later. The trip from London to San Juan was almost thirteen hours and they would have to make a stop in Madrid for about an hour. When they arrived at the airport, the girls were already there and after checking in they walked to the VIP lounge.

As Steph looked at her friends she knew it would be a long flight to San Juan. She looked at the couples in front of her and a part of her regretted going to the wedding but the other part of her wanted to be there with her friends. As she sat there, she received a text message from her niece, Julie, who told her that she would be in London with her mother and her “stepdad” next Thursday. Steph looked at the message and she knew that she would have to talk to Simon about letting her niece meet the Divos.

“What’s with the smile?” Sam asked.

“My niece, a ten year old Diva, is coming to London next week with her mom and stepdad and she wants to meet the guys, especially David,” Steph replied as she looked at David.

“Well, I think we can make that work. You didn’t bring the calendar, did you?” David looked at Steph.

“No. I am not your PA on this trip,” Steph reminded him.

“Ok, then we can talk about it when we get back,” David said.

‘Passengers for flight BA0512 to Madrid, please go to gate. The plane is now boarding’ a voice said. They walked towards the gate and boarded the plane to Madrid. Carlos had hoped for a little more time in his hometown to take Sam sightseeing but it would have to wait until another time as they only had one hour in Madrid. They found their seats and soon after, the captain announced that they had been cleared for take-off. Urs had lightened up a bit but deep down he was still disappointed about Séb not coming to their wedding.

The plane landed in Madrid and as they had an hour before they had to board the plane to San Juan, they decided to get something to eat. An hour later they headed for the gate and soon after they were on their way to the final destination, The Ritz-Carlton in San Juan. It was almost five pm when they reached the hotel and after checking in, they went to their rooms to freshen up before dinner was served.

---- Paris, France ---

Meanwhile at Charles De Gaulle airport in Paris, a young man was getting ready to board the plane to New York. It was a very talented young man named Remy Etienne LeBeau who had started his career as a musical star in Paris. Since then he had taken up singing professionally and for the last five years, acting had been on his resume too. He had heard of a new musical being set up in London and he wanted to be a part of that but first he had some other business to take care of.

---- The Ritz – Carlton, San Juan ----

After dinner, Urs and Alyssa had a meeting with their wedding planner to make sure that everything was ready for the wedding. Estefania Diaz was one of the best wedding planners in the world and she had been working for The Ritz in San Juan for the last three years. The original plan had been to have the wedding in London but Alyssa wanted something different and they had been lucky enough to get the last available date.

“Welcome to your wedding,” Estefania greeted Urs and Alyssa.

“Thank you; how does it look?” Urs asked as he held Alyssa’s hand.

“We are almost ready but there is something I need to discuss with you. Since this is a beach wedding, I thought it would be a good idea to have the ceremony on the beach. My idea is a wedding arch like this,” Estefania showed them some pictures.

“I love it. It’s just perfect,” Alyssa beamed.

“As I could understand Alyssa has one maid of honor and three bridesmaids and Urs has got one best man and three groomsmen,” Estefania looked at them.

“I’ve only got two groomsmen. The last one had to change his plans,” Urs explained the situation.

“You could ask Simon to do it,” Alyssa mentioned to him.

“I might just have to do that,” Urs smiled.

“Well, that is up to you,” Estefania said.

“Have you heard anything from the wedding singer?” Urs asked.

“Yes, he will be here tomorrow about an hour before the ceremony,” Estefania replied.

“Great. He is a great singer and maybe he could be the fifth member of Il Divo,” Urs laughed.

“Don’t think Simon would like that plan,” Alyssa pointed out.

“You’re right about that,” Urs kissed her cheek.

“Do you have any questions?” Estefania asked.

“No, I think everything is clear,” Urs looked at Alyssa who nodded her head in agreement.

“Good. I will see you tomorrow at noon then. Goodnight,” Estefania said and left.

“I can’t believe the wedding is tomorrow, “Alyssa smiled.

“I feel the same way, love. Maybe we should get some sleep. Tomorrow will be a busy day,” Urs smiled back.

“Just lead the way,” Alyssa said.

While Urs and Alyssa went to bed, Carlos and Sam went for a walk on the beach. The moon was full and the stars were twinkling above them. The only sound you could hear was the sound of the waves softly crashing on the beach.

“What are you thinking of?” Carlos asked Sam as they sat down in the sand.

“I’m thinking of Steph. Urs is with Alyssa, you’re with me and David is with Carla. Steph is alone,” Sam looked at him.

“She will meet someone. Who knows, she might even meet someone at the wedding tomorrow,” Carlos put his arm around her.

“Well, I hope this someone is French and is an amazing singer,” Sam smiled at him.

“We should go back,” Carlos got up and pulled Sam with him.

As they walked into the hotel, they met Carla and David who had also been out walking. They all had their own suites because they didn’t want Steph to feel like she was the only single. After saying goodnight to each other, Carla, David and Carlos went into their suites while Sam wanted to say goodnight to Steph.

Sam stayed with Steph for about ten minutes before going back to her own suite to get a good night’s sleep. After Sam had left, Steph climbed into bed with a strange feeling, a feeling that something good would happen to her the next day.

---- Wedding day ----

It was just around noon when Urs and Alyssa had their final briefing with Estefania. Simon had called Urs earlier in the day to tell him that they were almost there and Urs had asked Simon if he knew anything about Séb but the answer had been disappointing. It seemed like Séb had really made up his mind about not coming to the wedding.

Alyssa was in Sam’s suite and she kept looking at her watch. The wedding would take place in just under 1½ hours and there was no sight of the last two bridesmaids. Two of her cousins would fly in from New York and be her bridesmaids on this happy day. Just as she was about to pick up the phone and call them, her phone started ringing. Alyssa let out a sigh of relief when she saw the caller ID.

“Where are you girls?” Alyssa asked.

“We are stuck in New York and we won’t make it to the ceremony. I’m really sorry,” Medina said.

“I don’t believe it. Well, there is nothing you can do. Hopefully you will make it for the party,” Alyssa told her.

“We will be at the party. You have my word,” Medina promised before hanging up.

“I need two bridesmaids. Any volunteers?” Alyssa looked at Sam, Steph and Carla.

“I think Sam and Carla should do it. Carlos is the best man and David is one of the groomsmen,” Steph pointed out.

“No, you should do it, Steph. Don’t take this the wrong way but I really don’t feel comfortable being a bridesmaid to someone I hardly know,” Carla looked at Alyssa.

“That’s ok. I understand. What about you two?” Alyssa turned to Steph and Sam.

“If we can fit into the dresses, then we will do it,” Steph looked at her.

“My mom can make some adjustments to the dresses. Try them on,” Alyssa smiled.

Steph and Sam put on the dresses and with a few adjustments, the dresses fit perfectly. Alyssa asked Carla to check if the bouquets had arrived and Carla left the suite. She met Alyssa’s dad in the hallway and he had the box with the bouquets in his hand. They walked back to the suite with the bouquets and now it was almost time for Alyssa to marry the man of her dreams.

Meanwhile the wedding singer had arrived and Estefania had shown him where to set up his equipment. She told him that Urs was getting dressed but he would be down soon. Remy took a look at the venue and he couldn’t believe that he would be singing at Urs Buhler’s wedding. He had been following Il Divo for a long time and he was looking forward to seeing one of the Divos again but he knew the Divo didn’t feel the same way about him.

After getting dressed, Urs and the guys went downstairs where they were met by Simon and Gillian. They had already changed their clothes and after greeting them, Urs showed them outside where the ceremony would be held.

“With Séb not being here, would you mind stepping in as a groomsman?” Urs asked Simon.

“I would be honored but I’m afraid that won’t be necessary,” Simon replied with a smile.

“What do you mean, Simon? I need three groomsmen,” Urs looked at him.

“And you do have three groomsmen already,” Simon told him.

“You’re not good at maths, Simon. I only have David and Kevin,” Urs said.

“And me! I hope I’m not too late,” a familiar voice suddenly said behind them.

Chapter 15

”This is a surprise. I didn’t expect to see you here,” Urs looked at him.

“I know but after you left, I did some thinking and you were right. Everything you said was true. I have to move on and being here for you is the first step. I’m sorry for what I said and I want to apologize for my behavior. If you don’t want me here I understand,” Séb said.

“Apology accepted and of course I want you here,” Urs walked over to him gave him a manly hug.

“I think it’s time for you to get married. The girls are here,” David padded Urs on the shoulder.

The guys watched as the maid of honor, the bridesmaids and Carla came out of the hotel and they looked stunning in their dresses.

The Perfect Assistant Dresses

Carla kissed David before she took a seat next to Gillian and Simon. Urs and Carlos took their places by the archway and the other guys walked to the girls. Sam walked next to Séb because she hoped to knock some sense into him, David walked next to Alyssa’s cousin Marie and Steph walked next to Kevin. Kelly walked down the aisle, followed by Alyssa and her dad. Urs looked at Alyssa as she walked towards him and she looked stunning.

The Perfect Assistant Alyssa-1

Alyssa’s dad kissed her cheek before he gave her hand to Urs and took a seat next to his wife. They turned to the minister and he spoke to Urs and Alyssa before the exchanging of the vows.

In the name of God, I, Urs, take you, Alyssa, to be my wife,
to have and to hold from this day forward,
for better or worse, for richer or poorer,
in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish,
until we are parted by death.
This is my solemn vow.

In the name of God, I, Alyssa, take you, Urs, to be my husband,
to have and to hold from this day forward,
for better or worse, for richer or poorer,
in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish,
until we are parted by death.
This is my solemn vow.

After the vows, it was time to exchange the rings.

The Perfect Assistant Urs The Perfect Assistant Alyssa1-1

Exchange of Rings:

I give you this ring as a symbol of my vow, and
with all that I am, and all that I have, I honor you,
in the name of the Father, and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.

Our miracle lies in the path we have chosen together.
I enter into this marriage with you knowing that the
true magic of love is not to avoid changes, but
to navigate them successfully. Let us commit to
the miracle of making each day work together.

I offer you my love and my support throughout all of our lives.
I commit myself to years of growth and sharing as
I encourage you to move in new direction.
I will strive to achieve my potential as God's creature
and will celebrate your progress toward the same goal.
I give myself as I am and as I will be, and
I do it for all of life.

Respecting each other, we commit to live
our lives together for all the days to come.
I ask you to share this world with me, for good and ill.
Be my partner, and I will be yours.

May our days be long, and may they be
seasoned with love, understanding, and respect.

Now we stand together; may it always be so.
I offer myself to you today.
I will always love you, respect you and be faithful to you.

Come health, happiness, and prosperity, I will stand with you;
come illness, trouble, or poverty, I will stand with you.
Take this ring, as a sign of my love and commitment.

Today I join my life to yours as your friend, your lover,
and your confidant. Let me be the shoulder you lean on, the rock
on which you rest, the companion of your life.
With you I will walk my path from this day forward.

I came here today to join my life to yours before this company.
In their presence I pledge to be true to you, to respect you, and
to grow with you through the years. Time may pass, fortune may smile,
trials may come; no matter what we may encounter together,
I vow here that this love will be my only love.
I will make my home in your heart from this day forward.

“With the exchange of rings, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss your bride,” the minister said.

Urs gently placed his lips on Alyssa’s and they shared their first kiss as man and wife. It was a beautiful moment and even Séb had a smile on his face. ‘Maybe I really have been wrong about women. 'The nice ones do exist and I have to let Melissa go. She is not worth it', Séb thought as he looked at the women close to him. He wasn’t ready to start a new relationship yet and maybe he would never be but at least he had learned that not all women cheat and lie.

While the wedding photographer took pictures of the happy couple and their families, the Divos and the girls went for a walk on the beach. As Steph watched Sam and Carla holding hands with their Divos, her mind drifted back to her years with Mark. He had never been the one to show his feelings and he had never held her hand in public. She wanted what Sam and Carla had with Carlos and David and she knew that there was a man for her out there somewhere. Steph looked at Séb and even though she hoped that he could be the one to give her what she wanted, she knew it would never happen. She couldn’t deny that she had feelings for him but he would be too difficult to be with because of his attitude changing every two minutes.

When the photographer was done, they all walked to the reception area and found their seats. They had chosen round tables with eight chairs at each table and Carlos, Sam, David, Carla, Séb, Steph, Kelly and Kevin were at one of the tables together. Alyssa and Urs shared a table with their parents, Gillian and Simon. After everyone had found their seats, Urs got up and cleared his throat.

“You’re probably hungry, so I will make this short. My wife and I would like to say welcome to our wedding and thank you to each of you for being here today to celebrate this day with us. The plan was to have the wedding in London but I’m glad that we decided to have the wedding here. Since Alyssa and I changed the plans about the venue, we decided to do something different and that’s why we have booked a wedding singer to entertain us. Please put your hands together for Remy Etienne Moreau,” Urs said.

The Perfect Assistant Image2-1

The guests turned to look at the small stage and they looked at the handsome young man standing there in front of them. Séb stared at the guy on the stage and he felt an anger burning inside of him. What was he doing there at Urs’ wedding? How dared he show his face after what he had done? It had been almost five years but Séb still remembered like it was yesterday.

As the food was served, Remy started singing and he did have a great voice. He kept looking down at the table where the Divos were seated but Séb completely ignored him. Séb thought Remy was trying to make eye contact with him but Séb wasn’t the one Remy was looking at; someone else at the table had caught his eye. Steph felt like someone was watching her and at one time when she looked at the stage, her eyes met Remy’s eyes and he smiled at her. Steph smiled back at Remy, unaware that Séb had been watching the two of them exchanging looks and smiles. There was no way that he would let Steph get involved with Remy and he would do whatever he could to stop that from happening.

Urs had asked the guys to sing Senza Catene for the first dance and as the guys got ready on stage, Remy walked into the hotel and got something to eat. When the guys had finished singing, they returned to the table and sat down as Remy reappeared. David and Carlos had noticed the look on Séb’s face whenever he looked at Remy and they knew that something was wrong but they didn’t know what. They wanted to find out what was going on between them but they didn’t want to interfere, at least not right now.

Steph was alone at the table because the couples were dancing and Séb seemed to have disappeared. She hated being single at parties like this because she felt that everyone was looking at her and talking about her behind her back. It was a big relief when the cake was brought in because it meant that the couples would stop dancing. The cake was kept in white with green ribbons around the bottom of each layer and a bouquet of flowers, matching the wedding bouquets, on top of it.

The Perfect Assistant Urs-Alyssa

Urs and Alyssa cut the cake and fed each other a piece before the other guests joined them. As they were eating cake, Remy was removing his equipment from the stage. The agreement was for Remy to sing until the cake was served and if he felt like staying for the party, he could do so. When he had accepted the job he didn’t think that he would stay for the party but now he had a reason or two for staying. Alyssa and Urs said goodnight to their family and friends before disappearing. When they had gone, Remy took a piece of cake and walked over to the Divo table.

“Hello, Sébastien. It’s been a long time,” Remy said as he sat down.

“Not long enough,” Séb mumbled.

“What was that?” Remy asked.

“I said not long enough,” Séb repeated his answer.

“Are you still mad at me?” Remy asked.

“Of course I am still mad at you but this is not the time or place to talk about that. This is my friend’s wedding,” Séb looked up at Remy.

“I understand. We can talk about this another time. Aren’t you going to introduce me to the young lady sitting next to you?” Remy looked at Steph.

“No, I’m not,” Séb replied without looking at him.

“Well, guess I have to make the introduction myself then. My name is Remy Etienne Moreau,” he smiled at Steph.

“Stephanie Petersen,” Steph looked at him.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you. May I have this dance?” Remy reached out his hand to Steph.

“This lady is spoken for,” Séb answered Remy’s question as he took Steph’s hand.

Séb held Steph’s hand tightly in his as they walked to the dance floor and he then pulled her close. Steph had been dreaming about this moment for a long time but now that it was happening, it seemed wrong. Why had he done that when Remy asked her to dance? He wasn’t her boyfriend and he had no right to do something like that.

“What was that about?” Steph looked at Séb.

“I don’t think you should get involved with him,” Séb told her.

“What? You’re not my father and you have no right to tell me what I can and cannot do,” Steph pointed out to him.

“I know that but he is not the man for you. If you date him, you will only get hurt,” Séb said.

“How do you know that?” Steph asked.

“I can’t tell you. Just trust me on this one,” Séb almost begged.

“I appreciate your concern but I am old enough to make my own decisions. Why do you even care? You don’t even like me,” Steph reminded him.

“You are our PA and I just don’t want you to get hurt,” Séb looked into her eyes.

“Fine! Can I ask you something?” Steph asked him.

“Ask away,” Séb replied.

“Why didn’t you tell Simon that I slapped you?” she looked at him.

“If I had told him about the slap, he would have asked for the reason and I didn’t want him to know,” Séb said truthfully.

“Thanks,” Steph smiled at him.

“You’re welcome,” Séb smiled back.

After the dance, they walked back to the table but there was no sign of Remy. Carlos told them that Remy had left and Séb let out a sigh of relief. The Divos wanted to know what had happened between them five years ago but Séb didn’t want them to know. It still hurt too much after five years and he wasn’t ready to tell anyone about it. He knew that he would have to tell them eventually but for now, it was just his secret.

Chapter 16

---- San Juan, Puerto Rico ----

The newlyweds had gone on their honeymoon to a destination unknown to the other Divos because Urs didn’t want anyone to know but Simon insisted on knowing and Urs agreed to tell him. Simon and Gillian had gone back to London because Simon had an important meeting and Steph was stuck in San Juan with the other three Divos, Sam and Carla. Simon had ordered her to stay and relax with the others but Steph wasn’t happy about his decision. It would be more fun to be back in London working than spend two days watching Carla and Sam be happy with David and Carlos. Of course Séb was there but she couldn’t figure him out and she wasn’t sure what was going on with him.

They were relaxing by the pool but Steph wasn’t enjoying herself. Carla and David were in the pool, Sam and Carlos were talking without sensing anyone else and Séb was reading a book. Without saying a word Steph picked up her things and left the pool area. She needed some time alone and the others wouldn’t miss her anyway. Steph walked down to the beach and sat down in the sand. This was going to be two very long days and she couldn’t wait to be back in London.

“Have you seen Steph?” Sam asked Séb.

“No, I haven’t seen her and I didn’t know that I was assigned to be her babysitter,” Séb replied.

“I didn’t say you were but you seemed to be very protective last night,” Sam looked at him.

“That was different,” Séb told her before leaving.

The others looked at each other without saying anything. Séb had been acting weird since last night when Remy was there and all of them wanted to know what kind of connection Séb had to Remy and why there seemed to be so much tension between them. All they could hope for was for Séb to tell them what was going on when he felt the time was right.

Sam suggested that they got dressed and went looking for Steph and the others agreed. Before they went to their rooms they all agreed to meet in the reception ten minutes later. Sam knew Steph was a grown woman but she was still worried about her and angry because Steph had disappeared without a word. She knew it wasn’t easy for Steph to see the couples have a good time but that didn’t justify her disappearing. Ten minutes later, the two couples met in the reception and went looking for Steph.

As they reached the beach Steph came walking towards them and she knew by the look on Sam’s face that she was in deep trouble. Steph wanted to turn around and walk away but she knew Sam well enough to know that she wouldn’t let her get off that easy.

“We need to talk,” Sam took Steph’s hand and dragged her away from the others.

“Go ahead and yell at me. It will make you feel better,” Steph looked at Sam.

“I won’t yell but please tell me what were you thinking leaving like that?” Sam asked.

“You don’t get it, Sam. I don’t belong here with you, Carlos, Carla and David. I feel like I’m in the way and it’s not a nice feeling,” Steph answered her question.

“Séb is here too. You could spend some time with him,” Sam looked at her.

“I don’t think so. The man hates me, Sam. We both know that,” Steph reminded her.

“No, I don’t think he hates you. He wouldn’t have done what he did last night if he hated you,” Sam said.

“Well, it doesn’t really matter. All I want is to go back to London,” Steph looked at Sam.

“Please stay here with us until we go back. We will try to make your time with us pleasant,” Sam begged.

“I hate it when you do that. Ok, I will stay here with you,” Steph told her.

“Thanks. Now let’s go back and enjoy the rest of the day,” Sam suggested.

Steph nodded her head in agreement and they walked over to Carla, David and Carlos. When they got back to the hotel, they ran into Séb and all of them decided to take a look at San Juan.

---- JFK Airport, USA ----

’Ladies and gentlemen, flight UA115 to London Heathrow will begin boarding in 10 minutes. Please go to gate B25’ a voice said.

With a smile on his face, Remy picked up his bag and walked towards gate B25. He couldn’t wait to see Séb’s reaction when he arrived in London and he knew that Séb would have a problem with him being there but he didn’t really care how Séb felt. They hadn’t been in any contact for the last five years and Séb had no right telling him what he could or couldn’t do with his life.

When Remy arrived at the gate, he got a lot of attention from the women waiting to get on board and he loved every minute of it. Remy noticed two young women who were staring at him as they whispered to each other and he knew they were talking about him. He loved the attention but sometimes the fans came a bit too close. As he waited in line the two women approached Remy and asked for his autograph because they were his biggest fans. He gave them what they wanted and they were acting like two teenagers when he walked to the plane.

After putting his stuff in the compartment above his seat, he sat down and closed his eyes. He was looking forward to his meeting with Simon and his chances of getting a part in the musical Simon was working on looked good but he didn’t want to hope for anything. Getting a job had always been easy for him but with Séb’s obvious hate towards him, he was afraid that Séb would do whatever he could to stand in his way of getting the job. Well, he didn’t want to think about Séb right now. He just wanted to relax and enjoy the trip.

---- Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino ----

The Perfect Assistant She1523ex84753_lg

Alyssa and Urs were enjoying their honeymoon at Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino in San Juan. Yes, that is why they didn’t want the other Divos to know where they were going. Since the others would only be in San Juan for two more days, Urs didn’t see any problem in staying in San Juan as he would be fine with spending the first two days in a hotel room with his wife.

“I wish we could stay here and not go back,” Alyssa said as she rested her head on Urs’ chest.

“Me too, love, but I don’t think Simon or the guys would approve,” Urs laughed.

“No, you are right about that. And somehow I don’t think you would give up Il Divo to stay here,” Alyssa looked at him.

“You know me too well. I love being in Il Divo and the tour will be starting soon. We have a new PA who is good at her job and Séb seems to have forgotten about Melissa,” Urs kissed the top of her head.

“Yes, and he seems to have accepted Steph as your PA,” Alyssa agreed.

“I just hope this Remy won’t cause new problems. Something is not right between those two,” Urs spoke his concern.

“I know but let’s focus on us now,” Alyssa suggested.

“Sounds like a good idea,” Urs kissed her.

Urs and Alyssa spent the next two days in their hotel and as soon as they were sure the others had left San Juan, they could enjoy the beauty of San Juan and make some memories.

---- London ----

Steph was happy to be back in London and she couldn’t wait to get back to work. Even though she had been on a short vacation, Steph felt like she had been neglecting her job and she had a lot of catching up to do. She also had to talk to Simon about her niece meeting the group and she only had a few days to get it all sorted out. Steph was in her office checking the calendar when Gillian knocked on the door.

“Good morning, Stephanie. Did you have a nice flight?” Gillian asked as she handed Steph a cup of coffee.

“Yes, I did and this is just what I need. Thank you,” Steph replied as she took the coffee.

“You’re welcome,” Gillian smiled.

“Is Simon here?” Steph looked at Gillian.

“He is here but he is in a meeting with the wedding singer,” Gillian said.

“Remy?” Steph asked.

“Yes, Remy. You know Simon and one of his friends are planning a musical and when Simon heard Remy sing at the wedding, he decided that he wanted Remy in that musical,” Gillian informed Steph.

“He does have a great voice,” Steph expressed her opinion.

“And he doesn’t look bad either,” Gillian smiled at Steph.

“I haven’t really noticed that,” Steph looked down at the calendar.

“Yes you have. I’m not blind, Stephanie. I saw the way you two looked at each other at the wedding. The attraction is there,” Gillian laughed.

“The last thing I need is a man in my life,” Steph told her.

“Now that comment really hurts,” a voice suddenly said.

“Mr. Moreau,” Steph turned her head.

“Yes, that’s me! Am I interrupting anything?” Remy asked.

“No, I was just leaving,” Gillian smiled before she left the office.

“I can’t stay for long but I just wanted to say hello and ask you if you’re busy tonight,” Remy looked at Steph.

“No, I’m not busy. Why do you ask?” Steph wanted to know.

“I just wanted to take you out to dinner,” Remy took a step forward.

“Dinner sounds good. When and where?” Steph smiled at him.

“I will pick you up at six pm tonight. I just need your address,” Remy smiled back.

“Here is my address,” Steph gave him a piece of paper.

“Thank you. I have to go and see someone but I will see you later tonight,” Remy said before leaving the office.

As soon as he was gone, Steph returned to work and she couldn’t wait to see Remy later. She looked at the picture on her wall and suddenly she felt guilty. Yes, she wasn’t dating Séb and she probably never would be but for some reason she felt like she was betraying him by going out with Remy. Letting out a sigh, Steph continued with work.

---- The Divo building ----

Séb, David and Carlos were having breakfast at Séb’s apartment. David and Carlos both wanted to ask Séb about Remy but they couldn’t make themselves do it. It would be prying in Séb’s personal life and they didn’t want to do that.

“Ok, who wants to go first?” Séb looked at them.

“What are you talking about?” David answered his question with another question.

“I know you guys and you want to say something,” Séb replied.

“What is the story with you and Remy?” David blurted out.

“We just had an argument five years ago but that’s all I can tell you, at least right now,” Séb looked at his friends, hoping they would accept his reply.

“That’s ok but we are here if you want to talk about it,” Carlos said.

“Thanks guys,” Séb smiled.

Suddenly the doorbell rang and Carlos went downstairs to open the door and he was surprised to see Remy at the door. Letting him into the building would be a disaster as Séb and Remy didn’t like each other at all.

“Is Séb here?” Remy asked Carlos who was still stunned.

“Yes, he is upstairs in his apartment. Follow me,” Carlos said without thinking.

“Who was at the door, Carlos?” Séb asked.

“I was,” Remy answered the question.

Séb stared at him with anger and hate in his eyes. He asked Carlos and David to leave the apartment and if things got bad, Séb would try to contact them. Carlos and David looked at each other before leaving the apartment. As soon as they were gone, Séb looked at Remy.

“What are you doing here, Remy?” Séb asked.

“I came to see you, dear brother,” Remy replied as he sat down in front of Séb.

Chapter 17

”I am not your brother, Remy,” Séb spat as he looked at him.

“Maybe not by blood but your parents adopted me when I was one years old. According to my papers, I am an Izambard too,” Remy smiled at him.

“Then why are you using Moreau and not Izambard? Isn’t the name good enough for a hot shot Hollywood star like you?” Séb asked.

“I was born Moreau and I thought Moreau sounded better for my career. Besides I wanted to get out of your shadow. When we did musicals together in France, I was always Sébastien Izambard’s baby brother and I got tired of that,” Remy replied.

“We grew up together like brothers but you haven’t been my brother for five years,” Séb stared at Remy.

“Not this again. Can’t you get over it? Oh right, you can’t. You hold onto everything and that’s why you can’t get over Melissa,” Remy looked at Séb.

“Don’t you ever mention that name again,” Séb raised his voice.

“You can’t take the truth. You should do what I did. Find a nice girl and ask her out on a date,” Remy said.

“A date already? You just got here,” Séb was stunned.

“Yes, I just got here but unlike you, I am not stuck in the past. I will see you around,” Remy walked to the door.

“And who is this nice girl you’re talking about?” Séb questioned.

“Someone you know. Your PA,” Remy answered with a smile.

“Stephanie? I won’t allow that,” Séb looked at Remy.

“She is old enough to make her own decisions. Besides, you don’t even like her. Or do you?” Remy asked.

“Don’t you have a date?” Séb changed the subject.

“Yes, I do. See you later,” Remy walked out of the apartment.

Séb watched him leave and Remy’s words echoed in his head. He had to admit that Remy was right about him being stuck in the past but he was wrong about Steph. Séb had no feelings for Steph but if he didn’t have any feelings for her, then why was had he been trying to protect her in San Juan? It didn’t make any sense at all. Séb was so into his own thoughts that he didn’t hear David and Carlos knock on the door to his apartment.

Steph was on her way home after a busy day at work and she was looking forward to her date with Remy. He seemed like a nice guy and she really wanted to get to know him better. Maybe he turned out to be the wrong guy for Steph but she wouldn’t know until they had gotten to know each other.

“Hey,” Steph said as she walked into the living room.

“Hey. How was your day?” Sam looked at her.

“It was great. Remember the wedding singer at Urs’ wedding?” Steph asked.

“Yes, I do. What about him?” Sam answered with a question.

“He was in the office today and he asked me out tonight,” Steph replied with a smile.

“And judging by the smile on your face you said yes,” Sam sighed.

“What’s wrong with that? I’m single,” Steph stared at her friend.

“Nothing is wrong with that but what about your feelings for Séb?” Sam asked.

“Be serious. I have feelings for Séb but I have no intention of sitting at home and wait for something that will never happen,” Steph replied.

“You’re right and maybe Remy will turn out to be the right guy,” Sam agreed.

The two girls continued to talk over a cup of coffee and they couldn’t wait to go out on their dates later that night.

“What is going on with you and Remy?” Carlos asked Séb.

“It’s a long story and I doubt you would be interested in hearing it,” Séb let out a sigh.

“I don’t have to pick up Sam until six thirty pm,” Carlos looked at him.

“Carla will be here at seven pm, so out with it,” David continued.

Séb filled them in on how Remy was adopted by Séb’s parents after his parents died and the guys were surprised to hear that Séb had a younger brother. He had never mentioned Remy before and they couldn’t understand why.

“Why have you never mentioned him?” Carlos sipped his coffee.

“Because we lost contact before I joined Il Divo. Remy and I were close when we were kids and we did a lot of musicals together. We also wrote songs and performed at parties and everything was fine,” Séb said.

“Why did you lose contact if you were that close?” David looked at Séb.

“Remy was always popular with the girls and sometimes he was dating two girls at once but then he met Corinna and he fell head over heels in love with her. Everything was going well for Remy, both his private life and his singing career were going well. His acting career had just started when Corinna told him that she was pregnant and Remy freaked out. He left their apartment and went to see an old girlfriend and you can imagine the rest,” Séb replied with anger in his voice.

“He spent the night with his ex?” Carlos was shocked.

“Yes, he did. He returned the next morning and told Corinna that he was moving to America. Apparently he had been offered a part in a Hollywood movie and he couldn’t let a chance like that pass him by. Remy packed his bags and went to America, leaving Corinna and his unborn child behind in Paris,” Séb answered Carlos’ question.

“He doesn’t seem like the kind of guy who would do something like that,” David was stunned.

“Well, he did. Later that night I got a phone call from the hospital. The doctor informed me that Corinna had been in a car accident but she was ok and so was her baby. When I went to see her, she told me that she had lost control of the car because the road was slippery but I didn’t believe her. I told her that Remy wasn’t worth it and that I would help her any way that I could,” Séb explained.

“How is she doing now?” asked Carlos.

“Corinna is doing fine and so is my nephew, André. She is married to Alain Dubois, who was the attending doctor when she was admitted and the last time I spoke to her, she told me she was pregnant again,” Séb responded.

“That’s good to hear,” David smiled.

“Yes, but I have never forgiven Remy. I called him and told him what had happened to Corinna and Remy didn’t even care. He didn’t even ask if the baby was ok,” Séb told him.

“And you’re afraid he will do the same to Steph?” Carlos looked at him.

“Yes, I am. If Remy gets another job offer in America, he will leave. I am sure of that,” Séb answered as he played with the mug in his hand.

“He might have changed, Séb. It’s been five years,” Carlos reminded him.

“I know that and maybe you’re right,” Séb agreed.

The guys continued their conversation until it was time for David and Carlos to get ready for their dates with Carla and Sam. After they had gone, Séb wondered if he should find a nice girl and ask her out on a date but where would he find her? And was he ready to start dating again?

Steph was staring out of the window when Sam walked into the living room. It was six fifteen and there was no sign of Remy. He hadn’t even called to tell her he would be late and Steph wondered if Séb had been right about Remy.

“He is probably stuck in traffic,” Sam walked over to her.

“Maybe but that shouldn’t stop him from calling. I’m going to change and then I will order a pizza,” Steph said.

Sam watched as Steph walked out of the living room and she felt sorry for Steph. Why couldn’t she find a nice guy who actually wanted to be with her? Sam still hoped that Séb and Steph would end up together but she knew deep down that would not happen. Suddenly the doorbell rang and Sam walked to the door, thinking it was Remy.

“That’s about time you got here,” Sam said as she opened the door.

“We agreed on six thirty and it’s only six twenty,” Carlos looked at her.

“I’m sorry, Carlos, I thought it was Remy,” Sam apologized.

“It’s ok but why would Remy be here?” Carlos asked as he walked inside.

“He asked Steph out on a date and he promised to pick her up at six,” Sam closed the door.

“Sounds like Séb was right about Remy and he should know,” Carlos wasn’t sure if he had said too much.

“What do you mean?” Sam asked.

“I will tell you more at dinner. Are you ready to leave?” Carlos smiled at her.

“Yes, I’m ready. I just need my purse,” Sam walked into the living room.

After picking up her purse, Sam knocked on the door to Steph’s room and told her that they were leaving. Steph came out of her room and greeted Carlos before putting on her jacket. They left the apartment and Sam hugged Steph before she got into the car with Carlos. Steph watched them leave before she walked to ‘Joe’s Pizza’ and when she walked through the door, she spotted Séb sitting at one of the tables. Steph wondered if she should walk over to him but she decided against it. Instead she walked to the counter and ordered her pizza.

“I thought you had a date,” Séb’s voice suddenly said.

“Well, he stood me up,” Steph turned around and looked at him.

“Sorry to hear that,” Séb tried to sound sympathetic.

“No, you’re not but thanks anyway,” Steph said.

“I assume you will be eating alone tonight,” Séb looked at her.

“Yes, I don’t have any other choice,” Steph glanced at him.

“Well, you could join me. I hate eating alone,” Séb smiled at her.

“I will join you if you pay for my pizza,” Steph told him.

“If I pay for your pizza, we eat at your place,” Séb said without thinking.

“You’ve got a deal,” Steph agreed.

“Good. Could we have the pizzas to go, please?” Séb asked the girl at the counter.

“Of course you can,” the girl answered.

Séb paid for the pizzas and after getting the pizzas, Séb and Steph walked to the apartment. After getting settled, they had a great time eating pizza and talking. It was almost eleven o’clock when Séb left the apartment and Steph took the dishes to the kitchen before getting ready for bed. As she climbed into bed, it occurred to her that she hadn’t thought of Remy all night. Steph closed her eyes and slowly drifted off to sleep.

Chapter 18

Waking up the next morning, Steph wondered if Séb was a split personality or if he really did care about her well-being. The man she had spent the evening with was the Séb she had always imagined he would be but she knew that he could change within the blink of an eye. She couldn’t read him at all and it was getting really frustrating.

She got out of bed and after having a shower, she got dressed for work. Steph walked into the kitchen to put on the coffee and start breakfast. When breakfast was ready, she knocked on the door to Sam’s room but there was no reply. Steph was about to open the door to Sam’s room when the front door opened and Sam walked in.

“Looks like you had a great evening,” Steph smiled.

“I did and I know what you’re thinking but nothing happened. He slept on the couch,” Sam replied as she took off her coat.

“I didn’t say anything,” Steph was offended.

“No, but I know what you were thinking. I know you,” Sam smiled.

“Do you want some breakfast?” Steph asked.

“Sure. Just let me get changed first,” Sam replied and disappeared into her room.

When Sam returned a few minutes later, the two friends sat down and enjoyed their breakfast. Steph was in a good mood and Sam wondered what could have caused this change in her friend. She had been very disappointed last night and this morning she was smiling and laughing. Something had happened and Sam was dying to find out but should she ask?

“What?” Steph asked.

“Am I wrong in assuming that you had a great evening despite being stood up by Remy?” Sam sipped her coffee.

“You won’t believe me when I tell you what happened,” Steph replied.

“Try me,” Sam smiled.

“I met Séb at the pizza place yesterday and we ended up having dinner together here. From what I could tell he had a great time and so did I. I think he might have a split personality or something like that. The man is a mystery,” Steph said.

“Well, isn’t he a mystery worthy of exploring?” Sam looked at her.

“Yes, he is but I will leave that to someone else. I have to get going. Will you be here tonight?” Steph got up and carried her plate and mug to the sink.

“Carlos is taking me out to dinner,” Sam told her.

“Oh, ok. I will figure something out. See you later,” Steph put on her coat and left the apartment.

Sam watched her leave and she felt bad about not spending more time with Steph. She came to London to live and spend time with Steph but they hadn’t really spent much time together. Well, she would make it up to Steph as soon as possible. Sam cleaned up and walked into the living room to finish her novel.

---- Divo building ----

“What’s wrong with you this morning?” Carlos asked Séb as they were having breakfast.

“Nothing is wrong,” Séb replied.

“You’re not still thinking about Melissa, are you?” Carlos sipped his orange juice.

“No, I haven’t thought of her for a while but thanks for reminding me of her,” Séb said.

“Well, something is on your mind. We’re friends, Séb and friends tell each other things,” Carlos pointed out.

“It’s Remy and Steph,” Séb confessed.

“He stood her up last night,” Carlos told him.

“I know that. I met Steph at the pizza place and she told me about it. It doesn’t come as a surprise to me because I know what kind of man he is. Anyway, Steph and I went back to her apartment and had dinner there and I actually had a great time,” Séb looked at him.

“Oh, I see. Do you like her, Séb?” Carlos asked.

“She is not as bad as I thought,” Séb answered.

“You didn’t answer my question,” Carlos tried again.

“Yes, I like her but we will never be more than friends. I dated a PA once and that didn’t turn out well,” Séb poured himself another cup of coffee.

“Well, you never know. You might surprise yourself,” Carlos said.

“No. This is one thing I am sure of,” Séb assured him.

Carlos didn’t say anything. What could he say? Melissa had made sure that Séb would never allow himself to get involved with anyone but he hoped that Steph could change his mind. Only time would tell.

Meanwhile Steph had arrived at work and the first thing on her agenda was to talk to Simon about letting her niece meet the guys. She knew how much it would mean to Julie to meet the Divos and especially her favorite Divo, David.

“Good morning, Gillian. Is he in?” Steph looked at Gillian.

“Good morning. Yes, but he has a meeting with Remy,” Gillian replied.

“It can wait,” Steph turned and walked to her office.

When she opened the door to her office, she found a large bouquet of roses on her desk. As she walked over to the desk she noticed a note attached to the roses. Steph read the note and she couldn’t believe that he thought a bouquet of roses would be enough to make up for standing her up. She took the roses and threw them in the trash can before sitting down.

“Don’t you like the roses?” Remy suddenly said behind her.

“I like the roses but not the person who gave them to me,” Steph looked at him with anger in her eyes.

“I’m sorry about last night but my agent called and asked me to meet him. When I tried to call you, my phone went dead,” Remy explained.

“Did you notice those red things with the word telephone written on them? They are all over London. You can use them to call people,” Steph snapped.

“You’re right. I’m really sorry about what happened and I hope you will give me one more chance,” Remy smiled at her.

“If you think that smile is going to help then you have to think again,” Steph stared at him.

“What will it take for you to forgive me?” Remy asked as he took a step towards her.

“Nothing you say or do will make me forgive you. I have got work to do,” Steph said.

“Ok, I will leave for now but I won’t give up. I will think of something,” Remy turned and left the office.

Steph waited until she was sure that he had gone before she walked to Simon’s office. She knocked on the door and entered after hearing Simon’s voice say enter.

“Do you have a minute?” Steph asked.

“Of course. What’s on your mind?” Simon gestured for her to sit down.

“Well, I’m not sure if I should even ask you this but my niece is a big fan of Il Divo and she will be here in London this weekend with her mom and stepdad. Would it be possible for her to meet the guys?” Steph looked at Simon.

“I don’t see why that should be a problem. Maybe you could bring her and the family to dinner and I will make sure the guys are there too. How does that sound?” Simon smiled.

“It sounds perfect. Thanks,” Steph smiled back.

“Since you’re here, I want to talk about my birthday party. It will be held in Dublin around the same time the guys have to perform there and I would like for you to help Gillian with the planning. Would you mind doing that?” Simon asked.

“Of course not. The Divo schedule isn’t that busy at the moment,” Steph answered.

“Good. I’m sorry but I have to leave now,” Simon got up.

“And I have to get back to my job,” Steph smiled and left the office.

As Steph walked out the door, Simon couldn’t stop smiling. He had made the right decision about hiring Steph and he only wished that she had come to him sooner. Hiring Melissa had been a big mistake and hopefully they would never have to get involved with her again. Séb seemed to have forgotten about her and he had changed his attitude towards Steph. Things were definitely looking better and he could only hope it would last.

Steph was busy working when Carla showed up in the office. They hadn’t really been talking much and it was time to do something about that.

“Why do you have roses in your trash can?” Carla picked up the flowers.

“They are from Remy,” Steph snapped.

“Ouch,” Carla said.

“I’m sorry, Carla. He just makes me so angry,” Steph apologized.

“Apology accepted. Sam told me what happened last night,” Carla said.

“Let’s talk more over lunch,” Steph closed her computer and got up.

They left the office and found a small café a few blocks away. Steph told Carla everything that happened the night before and Steph didn’t hide that she was disappointed in Remy. He seemed like a nice guy but turned out that Séb had been right about him. After finishing lunch, Carla and Steph said goodbye before they went their separate ways.

Sam was getting ready for her date with Carlos when she heard the front door open and shortly after, she heard Steph slamming her bedroom door. Normally Steph would always say hello before going into her room to change and Sam knew that something wasn’t right. She finished getting dressed and walked over to Steph’s room and knocked on the door.

“Are you ok, sis?” Sam asked through the door.

“Remy came to see me today. He apologized with a bouquet of roses,” Steph responded with anger in her voice.

“What did you do?” Sam looked at her.

“I threw them out. He told me he wouldn’t give up and left but he was waiting for me when I left work and he followed me here,” Steph replied.

“Well, you have to admit that he tries hard,” Sam laughed.

“It’s not funny. I told him that nothing he does will make me give him a second chance,” Steph said.

“I will get that,” Sam said when there was a knock on the door.

“Is Steph here?” Remy asked.

“Yes but I don’t think she wants to talk to you,” Sam responded.

“She is right, Remy. I don’t want to talk to you. Go away,” Steph joined Sam at the door.

“Come on, Steph. I said that I was sorry. What more do you want?” Remy looked at her.

“Nothing from you,” Steph turned and walked into her room.

“She is stubborn but I won’t give up,” Remy turned around and left.

“You can come out now, sis. He is gone,” Sam closed the door.

Steph opened the door and stepped into the hallway. She looked at Sam before heading into the kitchen where she grabbed a can of coke from the fridge and walked into the living room. As she sat down on the couch, she heard someone singing in the street. She looked at Sam and both of them walked over to the window and looked out to see Remy standing in front of the building, singing. Sam bursted out in laughter and Steph looked at her with a look that could kill.

“What are you doing, Remy?” Steph sneered.

“I told you that I wouldn’t give up and I am not leaving until you agree to go out with me,” Remy stopped singing.

“Will you stop singing, please? We do have neighbors,” Steph said as Remy started singing again.

“He really is persistent,” Sam laughed.

“How do I make him shut up?” Steph looked at her.

“Agree to go out with him,” Sam smiled.

“He does have a great voice but he wins,” Steph let out a sigh.

“Good. Then tell him,” Sam walked away from the window.

“You win! Stop singing,” Steph said to Remy.

“Your wish is my command, mademoiselle. I will pick you up at six,” Remy bowed before walking away.

Steph closed the window and turned around to see Sam staring at her with a big smile on her face. Well, she would go on a date with Remy tonight and after that, she didn’t know what would happen. She was still angry at him but for some reason she was looking forward to the date. Sam turned around when the doorbell rang and Steph heard Carlos’ voice. Steph walked into the hallway and said goodbye to both of them before heading into her bathroom.

“She has a date with Remy tonight,” Sam explained to Carlos as they left the apartment.

“What about Séb? He told me today that he likes her,” Carlos said.

“Really? Wow, that could complicate things,” Sam looked at him.

“More than you think. Don’t tell this to anyone but they are brothers,” Carlos informed her of his talk with Séb.

“Brothers? I have a bad feeling about this,” Sam told him.

“So do I but there is nothing we can do. Let’s enjoy this evening,” Carlos pulled her close and kissed her.

As Carlos and Sam got into Carlos’ car and they drove off to the restaurant to have a nice dinner, Steph had finished with her shower. She looked at her reflection in the mirror and as she stood there, she felt torn. Steph had feelings for Séb but she was going on a date with Remy. ‘You’re a bad person, Stephanie Petersen’ a voice in her head said. She finished getting dressed and waited for Remy to arrive.

Chapter 19

After her date with Remy, Steph came home to an empty apartment. She had hoped that Sam would be there because she really needed someone to talk to but she was happy for Sam. If anyone deserved to be happy it was her. Steph opened her laptop and logged onto the OF where she checked out Séb’s gallery to see if there was any new pics. She had never felt so torn in her entire life and even though she had no reason to, she felt guilty about dating Remy.

Closing her computer, she let out a sigh and walked into her room to get ready for bed. She relived the date with Remy and she couldn’t believe that she had pulled away when he had tried to kiss her. Maybe it was Séb’s words that made her pull back because she was afraid of getting hurt. She liked Remy but she wasn’t in love with him but it was a nice feeling to know that a man had showed interest in her.

Steph climbed into bed and looked up at the ceiling. She couldn’t wait to introduce the guys to her niece. A smile appeared on her face when she thought of Julie. It would be a dream come true for her and Steph knew that Julie would be speechless when she met David. It was normal for people to act like that when they came face to face with the guys. At least that is how it had been for Steph, the first time she came face to face with Séb. Steph drifted off to sleep, thinking of that meeting.

Remy had returned to his rented apartment after his date with Steph and he had just closed the door and locked it when his phone started ringing. He looked at the caller ID and wondered if he should pick it up or not. Right now he wasn’t in the mood to talk but he knew that the person would keep calling him until he picked up.

“What do you want?” he answered the phone.

“Well, hello to you too. Are you in a bad mood tonight?” a female voice asked.

“I am now,” Remy replied.

“I love you too, darling. Do you have any news to share with me?” she questioned him.

“Well, I am dating Il Divo’s new PA. Their former PA left and they have a new one,” Remy informed her.

“And what about my favorite Divo? Is he dating anyone?” she wanted to know.

“No, Sébastien is single but he likes the new PA,” Remy said.

“She must be something special since both of you like her. Anyway, I heard a rumor about the guys being in Dublin next week,” she told him.

“That’s true. They have to do a TV performance and then celebrate Simon’s birthday. Why do you care?” Remy was curious.

“I will be on the same TV show as the guys. It will be quite a surprise for them to see me there and I have a surprise for Sébastien,” she responded.

“You’re not going to tell him about us, are you?” Remy asked.

“I don’t know yet. It depends on a lot of things, Remy. Well, it was nice talking to you but I have to leave. See you around,” she replied and hung up.

Remy looked at the phone in his hand and he wasn’t sure of what to think. Would she really tell Sébastien about their little affair or was she just playing with him? Well, he would just have to wait and see. Letting out a sigh he got ready for bed but he knew that he wouldn’t be able to sleep.

---- Next day ----

Steph was talking on the phone when Sam walked into her office, holding two cups of coffee. She still felt bad about not spending time with Steph but she wanted to make up for it by having an evening at home, just the two of them cooking and watching movies.

“This is a nice surprise,” Steph smiled at Sam.

“Good. I’m sorry for not spending more time with you,” Sam said.

“It’s ok. You’ve got a boyfriend and I’m happy for you,” Steph told her.

“I know you are but I still feel bad. Do you have any plans tonight?” Sam asked.

“No, I don’t. Remy asked me out again but I said no,” Steph replied.

“Why? I thought you liked him,” Sam looked at her.

“I pulled away when he tried to kiss me,” Steph said.

“You did what? Why?” Sam questioned.

“I don’t know. Something just made me pull away from him,” Steph responded.

“I think it has to do with Séb. You can’t fool me, sis. You may deny it but you love Séb,” Sam said.

“Don’t you have something to do?” Steph asked.

“Don’t change the subject. Do you love Séb?” Sam looked at her.

“You already know the answer to that but I’ve already told you that I refuse to spend my life waiting for him,” Steph answered the question.

“I know. Well, I should go do some shopping for tonight. See you at home,” Sam smiled and left.

Steph didn’t know what to do or think. Should she continue to date Remy or just sit around and wait for Séb to notice her? Well, she didn’t want to think about that right now. She had a lot to do with the trip to Dublin and also Simon’s birthday and she wanted it done as soon as possible.

It was just around lunchtime when Steph had finished making arrangements about the Dublin trip and she felt good about it. She had lunch with Gillian and after lunch it was time to plan Simon’s birthday. Most of it had already been taken care of but she still had a few loose ends. By the time Steph and Gillian left the office, everything had been planned. It would be a great birthday for Simon with family and friends around to celebrate him.

“I thought you wanted us to cook together,” Steph said as she walked into the kitchen.

“That was the plan but I decided to cook for you. I’m making baked ziti,” Sam smiled.

“You’re better than a husband. I will take a quick shower,” Steph left the kitchen.

When Steph returned to the kitchen, Sam had finished dinner and the girls took their plates to the living room. Sam had already picked the movie and it was really time for a girly night, something they hadn’t really had since they moved in together.

After watching the movie and doing the dishes together, the two friends just sat down and talked about different stuff. Sam told Steph that she had finished her book and had decided not to write more stories for a while. She wanted to do something else and Steph suggested that she should talk to Simon as she was good at writing and did have a bit of experience in public relations. Sam never thought about that but she decided to try as it couldn’t hurt and maybe she was lucky. The girls continued to talk until it was time for them to say goodnight after a great evening.

The weekend had finally arrived and it was time for Steph to pick up her family at the airport. Simon had arranged for transportation, and Steph was looking forward to seeing her family. She couldn’t wait to see Julie’s face when she met the Divos, knowing she was excited about the meeting. When Steph arrived at the airport, the plane from Copenhagen had already landed and the passengers were waiting for their luggage.

Finally Julie and the family walked through the doors and Julie had a big smile on her face. She ran over to Steph and hugged her while her mom and stepdad walked through the doors to the arrival area. They all greeted each other and Steph led them out to the limo that would take them to the hotel.

“How is it living in London?” Julie’s mom, Marianne, asked.

“It’s great. I love this city and I don’t miss Copenhagen, only my family,” Steph replied.

“When will I meet the Divos?” Julie looked at Steph.

“Simon has arranged dinner at your hotel tonight and they are all looking forward to seeing you,” Steph explained.

“I can’t wait,” Julie beamed.

They continued to talk on their way to the hotel and Julie couldn’t wait to see the guys later. When they arrived at the hotel, Steph walked inside with them and she waited until they had finished checking in to say goodbye. She told them that she would be at the hotel at six and Simon would bring the guys to the hotel half an hour later. Steph said goodbye and left the hotel.

“Did they arrive?” Sam asked as Steph sat down on the couch.

“Yes and Julie is very excited,” Steph replied with a smile.

“I can imagine that. She will be even more excited when she meets them,” Sam laughed.

“I know. Poor David,” Steph said.

“He is used to that by now, sis,” Sam looked at her.

“You’re right about that,” Steph smiled.

“When do we have to leave?” Sam asked as she sipped her coffee.

“I promised the family that I would be at the hotel at six,” Steph replied.

“Ok. I will start getting ready then. Will Remy be there too?” Sam asked.

“No, he won’t be there,” Steph answered her question.

“Good. I’m sorry but I don’t like him. Something is not right about him,” Sam spoke her mind.

“It’s ok. Séb warned me about him too,” Steph said.

“Maybe you should listen to him, sis. Well, I need a shower,” Sam said and disappeared.

Her words left Steph wondering if they were right about Remy. Was he really as bad as Séb made it sound like? One of Steph’s problems was that she always believed in the best in people and she had gotten hurt so many times because of it. Well, she would have to worry about that later. Steph went into her own room to get ready for dinner.

It was six pm when Steph and Sam arrived at the hotel and they were met by Julie, Marianne and Kurt. After a brief introduction, they walked into the bar and had something to drink until Simon and the Divos arrived. They had a great time talking and suddenly Julie stopped in the middle of a sentence. Steph turned around and looked towards the door to see the Divos, Simon and the girls standing there. As they approached them at the bar, Julie was completely speechless and she didn’t know what to do.

Steph introduced her family to them and after the introduction they walked into the hotel restaurant to get something to eat. Julie wanted to sit between David and Steph and they all agreed to that. Steph had asked the others not to tell Séb that she had been on a date with Remy because she didn’t want to get yelled at by him, especially not now when he seemed to have accepted her as the PA. Suddenly Julie surprised Steph by talking to Séb.

“My aunt likes you,” Julie said to him.

“I didn’t know that. Thanks for telling me,” Séb smiled at her before looking at Steph.

“Don’t believe everything you hear,” Steph looked at Séb.

“I know that but why would she lie to me?” Séb winked at Steph.

“You’re really annoying,” Steph told him.

“Yes, I know,” Séb smiled.

The rest of the evening went well and Julie got a picture taken with all of the guys and of course one of her and David. Julie was in a good mood when they Divos said goodnight and left the hotel. It had been a great day for Julie and she had a big smile on her face when she said goodnight to Steph. Steph and Sam watched them leave before they headed home to the apartment.

“Julie is a sweet girl and she is smart, too,” Sam said as the two girls got ready for bed.

“Yes, I know. I think she had a great time tonight but she should learn to keep her mouth shut,” Steph looked at Sam.

“Nothing bad happened. Séb seemed to be ok with her little outburst,” Sam laughed.

“It’s not funny. I will see you in the morning. Goodnight and sweet dreams,” Steph walked into her room.

“Goodnight,” Sam said as Steph closed the door behind her.

As Steph was in her bed, she thought about Julie’s comment. Well, she was right about Steph liking Séb but she could have kept quiet about it. There was nothing Steph could do about it and maybe it was a good thing that Séb knew how she felt about him.

Chapter 20

The time had finally come for all of them to travel to Dublin. Simon had requested that they would all be travelling together on his private jet as he had some things they needed to discuss. As soon as they were onboard the jet, Simon told the Divo’s and Steph to join him in his office while the others took seats in the other part of the jet.

After being seated, Simon looked at the five people sitting in front of him. Steph had been working with the guys for a while now and Simon felt it necessary to follow up on the situation between Séb and Steph. He folded his hands in front of him on the table and kept staring at them without saying a word. They all looked at each other, wondering what Simon was thinking. Finally Simon cleared his throat and spoke up.

“I want to know how things are going with you guys and Stephanie,” Simon looked at them.

“Well, I can only speak for myself and I think it’s going well,” David said, looking at the other guys.

“No complaints from me,” Urs continued.

“I’m with David and Urs. She is doing a fantastic job and we made the right choice,” Carlos agreed.

“What about you, Séb?” Simon asked.

“Steph is doing a good job and I don’t have any complaints either,” Séb replied.

“Oh, ok. Do you agree with the guys?” Simon looked at Steph.

“Yes, I think things are going really well. The first few weeks were rough but everything is looking good now,” Steph smiled.

“That’s good to hear. I assume everything is ready for the guys’ performance?” Simon asked.

“Yes. I’ve got all of the information here,” Steph opened her folder and handed Simon a piece of paper.

“Perfect. Well, I suggest we go back to the others and enjoy the flight,” Simon smiled.

Simon and the divos left the office as Steph put her files back in the folder. She felt good about hearing the guys’ opinions on her work and she had a big smile as she got up. Just as she was about to walk out of the office, Séb returned and asked her to sit down. Steph did as requested and Séb took a seat across from her.

“What’s on your mind? Are you here to tell me that you lied to Simon?” Steph asked him.

“No, I came here to tell you that I meant what I said. I haven’t been nice to you but it had nothing to do with you as a person. Our former PA and I were involved but she dumped me and I don’t know why. She just disappeared without a word and I guess I took it out on you,” Séb explained.

“Thanks for telling me,” Steph smiled.

“No problem,” Séb smiled back before leaving the office.

Steph left the office and walked back to the others with a smile on her face. She was happy to know that Séb’s hate towards her hadn’t been personal and she couldn’t blame him for hating women. What the girl did to him was mean and he didn’t deserve to be treated like that. Hearing Séb tell her that she did do a good job meant a lot to her. Steph took a seat and they all talked and laughed for the rest of the trip to Dublin.

---- Four Seasons Hotel – Dublin ----

It was just late in the afternoon when the jet landed in Dublin. Gillian had made reservations for all of them at the Four Seasons Hotel and Simon’s birthday would also be held there. To make things easier, Gillian decided to check all of them in and it went really smoothly. On her way back to the group, she wondered how they would feel about the rooms.

“Ok, you’ve all been checked in but I have to tell you two that this hotel doesn’t have any single rooms,” Gillian looked at Séb and Steph.

“What?” Steph asked.

“Don’t worry, Stephanie. You won’t be sharing a room with Séb. You will each get a deluxe room and the rest of us will get deluxe suites,” Gillian laughed.

“Oh, ok. You had me worried,” Steph said.

“What do you mean? Don’t you want to share a room with me?” Séb joked.

“No, I don’t,” Steph shook her head.

“Those two can continue that conversation all night. Can we get the keycards, please?” Carlos asked.

“Yes, here you are. We will meet for dinner at seven in the hotel’s restaurant,” Gillian informed as she handed them the cards.

They all left the reception area and went to their rooms. When they got to their rooms, they were all in for a big surprise. The rooms were amazing and yes, the guys were used to staying in hotels but this was one of the best ever. They couldn’t wait to spend four days at that hotel.

It was almost seven when the group gathered in the restaurant for dinner. After placing their orders, they talked about what would happen during the next four days. They had the performance the next morning and in the evening it was Simon’s birthday party. After that, they could do whatever they wanted until it was time to go back to London after the four days. They all had a great time during dinner and everyone was happy to see Séb and Steph getting along. It seemed like Séb had finally moved on from Melissa and he was laughing and joking with his friends. After a great night, they all said goodnight and went to their rooms to get a good night’s sleep.

The next morning, the Divos and Steph headed off to the studio for the guys’ performance on live TV. It went well and after the performance, the guys answered some questions before leaving the studio. Séb was talking to Steph when he heard a familiar voice behind him. ‘No, this can’t be right. She is not here. It’s all in your imagination’ Séb thought before turning around.

“What are you doing here?” Séb asked.

“I’m here because my fiancé is a very famous producer and he is being interviewed today,” Melissa said.

“What did you say?” Séb raised his voice.

“You heard me. I’m engaged to be married and the man over there is my fiancé,” Melissa pointed at the man talking to the host.

“Are you kidding me? Did you walk out on me because of the old guy over there?” Séb asked in anger.

“Don’t feel bad, Sébastien. He just had a lot more to offer than you did,” she replied with a smile.
“What could he possibly offer you that I couldn’t?” Séb looked at her.

“Well, he offered me a life in luxury. He is very wealthy and doesn’t have any children. Guess who will get all of his money when he dies?” Melissa said.

“I will talk to you later,” Steph told Séb and left.

“Who is she?” Melissa wanted to know.

“She is our new PA,” Séb answered.

“She is the one that you and Remy are fighting about? You guys have really lowered your standards,” she laughed.

“Remy and I are not fighting over her. I like her a lot and I thought Remy did too but he stood her up on their date and they haven’t talked since,” Séb informed Melissa.

“That’s not what Remy told me,” Melissa covered her mouth with her hand.

“What was that? You’ve been talking to Remy?” Séb took a step forward.

“Yes, I have. In fact, we’ve been doing more than talking. We had an affair when I was dating you and I gave him a lot of useful information about you,” Melissa smiled.

“I don’t believe this. You cheated on me with my brother?” Séb was getting angry.

“Well, yes I did. And now he is dating your PA. How does that make you feel?” Melissa looked at him.

“You’re lying. Steph is not dating Remy,” Séb grabbed her arm.

“Yes, she is. I suggest you talk to her and leave me alone,” Melissa walked away from Séb.

Séb watched as Melissa walked away and he couldn’t believe it. Remy and Melissa had an affair and now Remy was dating Steph. What was wrong with Steph? How could she date Remy after he stood her up? He suddenly realized that he was more upset about Steph and Remy dating than he was about the affair. Why did it hurt him more that Steph was dating Remy? Maybe his feelings for Steph were stronger than he was ready to admit to himself? Well, he wasn’t going to waste his time thinking about that.

“Are you ok, Séb?” Steph suddenly asked.

“Why do you care?” Séb looked at her with anger written all over his face.

“It just seemed like it wasn’t a very pleasant conversation,” Steph replied.

“It wasn’t pleasant but it was very informative. Do you know how much I hate it when people are lying to me?” Séb raised his voice.

“Why are you yelling at me? I haven’t done anything to you,” Steph was surprised.

“Could you please take it outside?” a young woman suddenly asked.

“Sure,” Séb grabbed Steph’s arm and dragged her outside.

“Let go of me,” Steph said.

“Sorry,” Séb said, letting go of her arm.

“What is wrong with you? You just went from Dr. Jekyll to Mr. Hyde in no time,” Steph looked at him.

“I’ve already told you that I hate it when people are lying to me,” Séb reminded her.

“I remember you said that but that has got nothing to do with me or why you are suddenly changing your attitude towards me,” Steph raised her voice.

“Oh, but it does. You’ve been lying to me about Remy. I think you should just go back to where you came from. Besides, anyone can do your job,” Séb said.

Steph looked at him and didn’t know what to say or do. He knew about her dating Remy but why did he even care? She could understand why he would be disappointed about it since he had been trying to warn her but that was no excuse for treating her like that. Well, this was the last time he would talk to her like that. She knew that what she was about to do wasn’t the right decision but she was sick and tired of Séb’s changing attitude and enough was enough.

“Enjoy the job, Sébastien, I quit,” Steph yelled as she handed him her stuff and walked away.

Séb just stood there, holding her calendar and everything else she had given him. He couldn’t believe that she had just quit her job because that was not what he wanted. He just felt betrayed by her, Melissa and Remy and he had to take his frustrations out on someone. Now he had to tell his friends that they had lost their PA and he knew they wouldn’t be happy about it. Sighing, he walked back inside with Steph’s stuff in his hands and was met by the other Divos.

‘Well, here we go. It’s time to get yelled at,’ Séb thought, as he walked towards his friends.

Chapter 21

”Where’s Steph?” Carlos asked him.

“She had to go back to the hotel and she asked me to take care of her stuff,” Séb replied.

“You’re a bad liar, Izambard. Tell us what is going on,” Carlos demanded.

“I will tell you but this is not the place. Let’s go back to the hotel and talk in private,” Séb suggested.

While the Divos were heading back to the hotel, Steph had returned to the hotel and she needed to talk to Sam about what had happened. She knew that Sam would yell at her for letting Séb get to her but most of all because she quit her job because of him and his attitude. She took a deep breath before knocking on the door to Sam’s suite. Thoughts were running through her head as she waited for Sam to open the door.

“What happened to you?” Sam asked as she opened the door.

“We need to talk,” Steph answered.

“Now that sounds serious. Come on in,” Sam stepped aside.

Steph sat down on the couch as Sam got two cokes from the minibar. She joined Steph on the couch and handed her one of the cokes. Sam could tell that something was wrong but she didn’t want to push Steph into telling her.

“I’m going back to Copenhagen,” Steph suddenly said.

“What? Have you lost your mind? You’ve got a great job in London, great friends and things are going well with you and Séb. Why do you want to leave all that?” Sam looked at her.

“I don’t have a job anymore. I just quit,” Steph got up and walked over to the window.

“You quit? You’ve got some explaining to do,” Sam raised her voice.

“Séb met his ex at the studio and I left them alone to talk. When I returned, he was in a bad mood and he confronted me about dating Remy. Apparently she knew about that but I have no idea how. Anyway, Séb told me to go back to Copenhagen, adding that anyone could do my job and I just handed him all of my stuff and told him to enjoy the job because I was quitting. Then I walked away,” Steph turned and looked at Sam.

“I don’t believe this. What is wrong with you?” Sam asked.

“I’ve had enough of his insults. One minute he is the sweetest guy and the next he is acting like a jerk. If he was acting like a jerk all the time, I could live with it but I can’t deal with his changing attitude,” Steph explained.

“Did you tell any of this to Simon?” Sam wanted to know.

“No, not yet because it would make Séb hate me even more and I don’t want to ruin Simon’s birthday. I will tell him tomorrow before I leave,” Steph replied.

“Listen to me, sis. Don’t do anything until I talk to Carlos. He won’t let you quit and the same goes for the other guys. Trust me on this one,” Sam said.

“I don’t know. Right now I just want to get away from here,” Steph returned to the couch.

“I know you do but running away isn’t the solution. We both know that,” Sam took her hand.

“So, I should just accept his insults and pretend like everything is ok?” Steph looked at Sam.

“No, I didn’t say that at all. You two need to talk but I will talk to Carlos first. He might be able to knock a little sense into Séb,” Sam responded.

“Ok. I will wait,” Steph promised.

Meanwhile the Divos had returned to the hotel and they walked into the hotel bar to talk. They ordered something to drink before they walked to a table in the back of the bar. The waiter brought them their drinks and as soon as he was gone, Carlos spoke up.

“Why did Steph tell you to take care of her stuff?” he asked.

“She didn’t actually tell me to take it,” Séb replied, looking at the table.

“You finally managed to get her to quit, didn’t you?” Carlos glanced at him.

“She did quit but I never wanted that to happen,” Séb sighed.

“You’ve got a lot of explaining to do, so spill it,” Urs demanded.

Séb told the guys everything that had happened at the studio and the guys were shocked. They couldn’t believe that Melissa had been such a gold digger but they were more shocked to hear about Remy’s affair with Melissa. They could understand his frustration but they couldn’t understand why he took it out on an innocent girl like Steph.

“Let me ask you something, Séb. What hurt you the most? Finding out about Remy and Melissa or Remy and Steph?” Carlos asked, hoping Séb would confess his true feelings.

“I don’t know,” Séb replied, looking down at the table.

“That’s not true. You were more hurt about Remy and Steph,” Carlos surprised him by saying.

“Yes, that piece of information hurt me more. Are you happy now?” Séb asked.

“No, I’m not because you haven’t told us the whole truth. Why did it hurt you more?” Carlos asked him.

“Because I’m in love with Steph,” Séb confessed.

“I knew it. Well, if you’re in love with her, then what are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be talking to her?” Carlos looked at him.

“I suppose so but she won’t talk to me. Besides, I can’t tell her that I love her when she is dating my baby brother,” Séb pointed out to him.

“No, you can’t tell her that but you could apologize and ask her to stay as our PA. We don’t want Steph to leave and neither do you,” David spoke his mind.

“You’re right. I will see you later,” Séb got up and left the hotel bar.

“How do you think it will go?” Urs asked the others.

“Well, my guess is another fight,” David laughed.

“Mine too,” Carlos agreed.

Steph had finished her talk with Sam and was waiting for the elevator. Sam’s suite was located on the 2nd floor and Steph’s suite was on the 4th floor. When the elevator stopped, the doors opened and she found herself standing face to face with Séb. They lived on the same floor and she wasn’t too happy about riding in an elevator with him but she still got in. The elevator started to move but suddenly it stopped. They just stood there in silence and it was driving Séb crazy.

“Talk to me, please,” Séb said.

“Why should I talk to you? Because of your charming personality?” Steph asked.

“I deserved that one. We need to talk,” Séb looked at her.

“There is nothing more to say. I’m going back to Copenhagen and you won’t have to see me again. That is what you wanted all along,” Steph glanced at him.

“Will you be quiet and listen to me for once?” Séb raised his voice in frustration.

“Welcome back, Mr. Hyde,” Steph said.

“You’re so annoying. I don’t know why I even bother,” Séb ran his fingers through his hair.

“Getting frustrated, are we?” Steph smiled at him.

Seeing the smile on Steph’s face really ticked him off and he walked towards her, forcing her to take a few steps back until she hit the wall. Séb was standing in front of her and Steph felt uncomfortable about him being this close. He just stared at her without saying anything and she wanted to push him away but she was afraid it would upset him even more. Suddenly the elevator moved again and Séb stepped away from her as the elevator stopped on their floor. As soon as the doors opened, Steph left the elevator and turned around.

“If you want to quit, then do it. We think you’re the best PA we’ve ever had and we don’t want you to go. It’s your choice,” Séb told her as the doors closed.

Steph watched as the elevator moved again and she walked to her suite. She didn’t want to quit but how could she work with him after this? Thoughts were running through her head as she opened the door to her suite. As she stepped inside, she sensed that something wasn’t right. When she walked into the living room, she was surprised by someone she wasn’t expecting to see there.

Carlos had returned to his suite and he was enjoying some private time with Sam when there was a knock on the door. He didn’t want to open the door but something told him to do it. Carlos opened the door and he wasn’t happy about the look on Séb’s face.

“You look like a thunder cloud. I guess your talk with Steph didn’t go well,” Carlos stepped aside.

“You mean the argument. Yes, we had another one because she is impossible to talk to,” Séb said.

“I’m sorry for saying this but you’re not exactly easy to talk to yourself,” Sam pointed out.

“She is right. You can be a challenge sometimes but sit down and tell us what happened,” Carlos looked at Séb.

Séb sat down and told them everything that had happened in the elevator and they were both surprised to hear what Steph had said to him. Apparently she wasn’t as innocent as they thought and they exchanged looks as Séb continued his story.

“She is really getting to you, isn’t she?” Sam asked with a smile.

“More than you can imagine,” Séb sighed.

“Is she staying as our PA?” Carlos looked at him.

“I don’t know,” Séb answered truthfully.

“Well, you have to find out. I suggest you go to her suite and talk to her, Séb. We can’t let her leave and you know it,” Carlos told him.

“Yes, I do know but I can’t promise you that she will talk to me,” Séb said.

He got up and left the suite. As he walked to the elevator, he wondered what he should say to Steph. He pushed the button and waited for the elevator to arrive. As the doors opened, he stepped in and pushed the button for the 4th floor. He knew that Steph would probably tell him to leave but he had to take that chance.

---- Steph’s suite ----

“What are you doing here, Remy?” Steph asked.

“I had hoped for a warmer welcome,” Remy replied.

“I’m sorry but I just quit my job with Il Divo and I’ve been fighting with Séb today. I’m just not in the best mood,” Steph apologized.

“What happened?” Remy wanted to know what Séb had done to make her quit.

Steph told Remy everything that had happened earlier in the day and he couldn’t help but feel good about the news. He knew that Séb had feelings for Steph but he had just blown his chances with her and now it was time for Remy to make his final move.

“I’m sorry to hear that but maybe it’s a good thing. My agent called me yesterday and informed me about a job in America. I have three days to make a decision and now that you don’t have any reason for staying in London, I want you to come with me,” Remy said.

“Could you repeat that, please?” Steph stared at him.

“I want you to come with me to America,” Remy repeated.

“It may be easy for you to just leave everything behind but I’ve got a family and friends and I can’t leave like that,” Steph informed him.

“I’ve got a family too but I don’t talk to them. The only one I’ve spoken to is my brother and he doesn’t like me,” Remy looked at her.

“Why doesn’t he like you?” Steph asked.

“Years ago I made a mistake and my family have never forgiven me. My brother still hates me for what I did,” Remy sighed.

“Can’t the two of you talk about it?” Steph looked at him.

“No, he is not an easy person to talk to,” Remy told her.

“Sounds a lot like Séb,” Steph laughed.

“It is Séb. He is my brother,” Remy walked over to the window.

“What? Why didn’t you tell me?” Steph questioned and she was disappointed.

“I didn’t find it important,” Remy turned around and looked at her.

“Well, now everything makes sense to me,” Steph said as there was a knock on the door.

She walked to the door and opened it to see Séb standing there. ‘Great! This is just what I need’ she thought as she looked at him. Remy appeared next to her and the two brothers just stared at each other without saying a word.

Chapter 22

Steph felt really uncomfortable about Remy and Séb being there and it was easy to see that there was no brotherly love between them. It felt like the temperature dropped below zero and Steph wished they could go somewhere else to talk.

“What are you doing here, Séb?” Steph asked him.

“I came to talk to you but I think the question is what is he doing here?” Séb looked at Remy.

“He was already in my suite when I got here. Don’t know how he managed to get in,” Steph replied.

“How did you get in?” Séb stared at his brother.

“You’re not the only one who can be charming, Séb. I told one of the maids that I had forgotten my card and she was kind enough to let me in,” Remy replied with a smile.

“Ok, but that doesn’t explain what you are doing here, Remy,” Séb raised his voice.

“I came to see Steph. Is that a crime?” Remy asked.

“When it comes to you, then yes,” Séb said.

“Well, I see you’re still acting like the knight in shining armor,” Remy provoked Séb.

“Listen to me you little creep. I won’t have you do to Steph what you did to Corinna,” Séb took a step forward.

Steph looked at both of them and wondered what they were talking about. Who was Corinna and what did Remy do to her? Steph hoped that one of them would tell her what was the story about Corinna? It was clear that Corinna had been important to one of them, but who? Seb seemed protective of her but Remy has a past that Steph knew nothing about. At least with Séb, she knows some of his baggage. But Remy; who was he?

"Will someone tell me who Corinna is?" Steph practically demanded.

Baby? Remy's baby?

"What?" Steph asked.

Remy was getting angry. His eyes were filled with rage and he looked like he could punch Séb anytime.

"O please, you aren't any better. You love your career as much as I do," Remy retorted.

"You're right, I do love singing but I would never abandon a woman I got pregnant; that must run in your blood family; no real Izambard man would ever do what you did!" Séb told him.

“I’m not an Izambard by blood, I’m a Moreau. And a real Moreau is able to stop his woman from sleeping with other men,” Remy blurted out.

Steph looked at them and wondered what they were talking about. What did Remy mean by what he said? Who had been sleeping with another man? She was getting tired of the games they were playing.

“Speaking of that, why did you sleep with Melissa?” Séb looked at him with anger in his eyes.

“It wasn’t planned but at some point a woman needs a real man and I just happened to be there,” Remy replied with a smile.

Hearing Remy say those words and watching Remy’s smile made Séb angry and he grabbed Remy’s collar and pushed him against the wall. Steph watched as Séb’s eyes burned with rage and she couldn’t blame him for wanting to hurt Remy because she felt the same way. She had been shocked to hear about Remy walking out on Corinna but hearing about him sleeping with Séb’s girlfriend was too much for her to deal with right now. Steph watched as Séb raised his hand and made a fist and she knew that she had to stop him from doing something stupid.

“STOP IT!” Steph yelled at them.

They both looked at Steph and Séb let go of Remy’s collar. Judging by the looks on their faces, they had forgotten about Steph being in the room with them. She had tears in her eyes and Séb was the only one who seemed to care about it.

“Is it true, Remy?” Steph asked him.

“Yes, I did walk out on my girlfriend and my unborn baby and I did sleep with Melissa but I’m not that man anymore. I’ve changed a lot since then and I think I’ve proved it by asking you to come with me to America,” Remy answered.

Séb was stunned to hear about America. Was Steph really considering going to America with Remy? She wouldn’t be stupid enough to follow him, would she? If Steph went with Remy, then Séb would never see her again. No, he couldn’t let that happen. He had to do something to make her stay with Il Divo and him.

“Are you going with him to America?” Séb asked her.

“Right now I need time to think,” Steph said.

“I will leave now but I will contact you in two days for your answer,” Remy told Steph.

“Ok,” Steph agreed.

“Not sure if it matters right now but I really do like you, Steph. Unlike some people I know, I’m not afraid to admit it,” Remy looked at Séb before leaving the suite.

After Remy had left, Steph turned around and walked over to the window. She couldn’t believe that Remy had walked out on his pregnant girlfriend and she wasn’t sure what to think. How could she join Remy in America after what she had just learned about him? She felt really stupid and she should have listened to Séb when he had warned her about Remy.

"Please you can't go with him; he's a beast," Séb said to her.

"Don't act so tender and sweet now. You should have told me," Steph turned to look at him.

"I know but things with us never seem to be right; I'm yelling, you're yelling, what a pair we make," Séb looked at her.

"I don't yell, you yell. I defend my reasons for being here but don't worry, I have quit so now you can go on and pretend that you live in a woman free society,” Steph walked over to the door and opened it.

“That is not what I want,” Séb told her.

“I don’t care what you want. Right now what I want is important and I want you to leave. I need time to think,” she walked away from the door.

"No! We need to talk,” Séb closed the door.

"Talk about what? Your cold hearted brother or your split personality?" she asked.

"You think I have DID (dissociative identity disorder)? Why would you think that?" Séb was stunned.

"Sweet and kind one minute, cold and distant the next,” she looked at him.

"I have been though a lot. Melissa used me, cheated on me with Remy and finally left," Séb looked at her.

"I am so sick of hearing about that *itch. So Melissa used you, it sucks but it happens. Get over it! Not all women are like that viper. You can't let what she did control you. At times, I think your constant thoughts of her stand in the way of your friendships. My husband, or ex-husband, walked out on me. He promised to love me forever and then one day he tells me to spend a few days at my parents place and I did for two weeks. Then I saw the pictures of him and his new girlfriend, Bambi. Well, the point I am trying to make is Mark hurt me, in the worst way but I am not treating you, Carlos, Urs, David or Simon like gutter trash. I am treating you as people who are a blank slate to me. Right now, the guys, even you, haven't done anything to truly hurt me," Steph looked at him.

Séb was shocked by what she told him. First, he knew about what Mark had done to her because he heard it back at the Divo building but to see the expressions on her face as she described what happened was hard for him to deal with. Second, was how Steph treated him. He made her quit and he made threats about getting her fired but she still treated him with a certain level of respect. It wasn’t just because they are her bosses but because, using her own words, they are people. Steph was also right about Melissa.

"I'm a moron. David tried to tell me, Urs tried to tell me and Carlos tries to tell me all the time. I almost missed my best friend’s wedding to the woman he loves because I thought she was a life sucking..." Séb paused and sat down on the couch.

"Look at me, I'm 35 and what do I have to show for it. I have no special woman in my life and yet I sing almost every night about romance, love and tenderness. I'm a liar. I go on stage every night and sing about how great love is or about how there's life after losing love but in my everyday life I am alone. It’s all because I’ve chosen to stay in the past instead of moving on. What have I let Melissa do to me? If you can move on from what Mark did then why can't I move on from Melissa?" Séb continued.

Steph had no answers for him. Everyone moves on from their past in their own way, but Seb was taking a long time.

"Maybe you need closure. Let her know what she did to you. My closure was my divorce papers but maybe you need a confrontation," she suggested as she sat down on the couch next to him.

"Talk to Melissa? Well, I don't know about that but I will think about it. Now, let’s talk about you and your job. I don't want you quit. You are doing a great job, Steph. Everything is in order, it's organized. Besides, don’t you want to be there if I do talk to Melissa?" he took a pen from his pocket and handed it to her, to symbolically give Steph her job back.

"I do. I want to see what that witch says," Steph took the pen.

Each knew that Steph took the pen for other reasons and that Seb asked her to stay on for other reasons, but neither one wanted to admit it yet. However, that didn't stop him from pulling her close and pressing his lips on hers, and she didn't push him off. When they broke the kiss, Séb got up without a word and left her room.

Steph didn’t even notice him leaving. She was in a state of shock and it took a while for her to get out of that state that Séb’s kiss had left her in. When she finally managed to pull herself together, she called the only person she could talk to about what happened.

"Hi Carlos, is Sam there?" she waited for Sam to get on the line.

“What’s up, sis?” Sam asked.

“I’m sorry to interrupt whatever you and Carlos are doing but I need your help a.s.a.p.," Steph replied.

“I will be right with you,” Sam hung up the phone.

Steph hung up and walked around the suite, wondering what had possessed Séb to kiss her. The kiss had not made it easier for her to figure him out and she wondered what he was up to. Was it just an attempt to stop her from leaving with Remy? Or was it something more? Her thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door.

"What's the 911?" a term Sam often used to asked what the emergency was.

As they walked over to the couch and sat down, Steph told her everything that had happened in her suite. She started with Remy abandoning his pregnant girlfriend, then Séb's weird obsession with Melissa, then the kiss and finally the fight that Séb and Remy almost got into.

"Wow. Sounds like things got really heated but where do I come in?" Sam looked at Steph.

"I need you to help me organize Séb's meeting with Melissa. If need be, you can say things to Melissa that I can’t say," Steph looked at Sam.

"Okay, I agree that I can verbally kick butt with the best of them but this isn't Carlos related, not totally anyway," Sam looked at her friend.

"I'm not following," Steph told her.

"I know you love Seb, and don't deny it. I see it when you talk to him, I see it when you talk about him and I see it when you listen to their CDs. You, yourself, just told me that you let him kiss you. Plus, if you didn't love him, then his yelling at you wouldn't bother you so much and I think he loves you too or at least has deep feelings you or he wouldn't have kissed you. You need to put your foot down and tell Melissa that what she did was horrible and that if she ever tries to be with Séb again, you will break every bone in her hands," Sam said.

"I’m not dating Séb. Can I even do that?" Steph asked.

"No, you’re not dating him but you do care for him and you want what's best for him. That gives you the right to tell her what you think of her. Now, let’s talk about Remy. I say dump him like toxic waste," Sam kissed her friend's forehead.

The two friends sat down and talked about men, specifically Séb, Carlos and Remy. Like it or not, Remy was a part of their lives now and he right now might be the biggest problem of all.

"We need to deal with Remy first though. He might be a huge threat to the guys and this I can help with. Carlos is one of the guys and if Remy thinks that I as a woman am going to sit by and watch the man she loves be hurt, he will learn the hard way that we don't take crap anymore,” Sam pointed out.

Sam and Steph started to plan a way to get Remy out of their lives, but since he is Séb's brother, they knew it wouldn’t be easy.

Chapter 23

After leaving Steph’s suite, Remy had returned to his own hotel and he was angry at Séb for telling Steph about his past. Séb had ruined everything for him and there was no way that Steph would go with him to America now. Remy walked into the hotel bar and ordered a beer. Drinking wouldn’t bring Steph back to him but it would help to calm him down.

As Remy sat there, he thought back to his childhood. His childhood had been filled with love and he loved Fabien and Jolene Izambard for giving him everything he needed as a child. Séb had been a great brother and the two of them had been really close until that day when he walked out on Corinna. Yes, he made a mistake that day but that did not give Séb the right to ruin his life now. Why couldn’t Séb just stay out of his life and focus on his own life?

He finished his beer and went upstairs to his room where he took out his laptop. As he opened his e-mail inbox, he found an e-mail from Jolene and he wondered why she was contacting him now. Well, it couldn’t hurt to read what she had to say and he opened the e-mail.

‘Hello my son.

Your father and I hope you are doing well and we miss you a lot. It might be difficult for you to believe but it’s the truth. A lot of bad things have been said between us but we hope that you will accept our apology and will be able to forgive us.

Our 40th wedding anniversary is coming up next month and it wouldn’t be right to celebrate it without you and your brother. Your father and I would really like to see you there and we hope that you will accept our invitation. Details are listed at the bottom.

We need your reply soon and if you want to bring a date to the party, feel free to do so.

Lots of love,
Mom and dad’

Remy stared at the e-mail and he couldn’t believe that his parents wanted him to be there to celebrate their 40th anniversary with them. He wasn’t sure of what to do because he hadn’t been in contact with them for five years and now they suddenly wanted to see him. Did they have a hidden agenda or were they being sincere about wanting to see him? He walked over to the minibar and grabbed a cold beer before returning to his laptop. His eyes scanned the e-mail over and over and after staring at the screen for about ten minutes, he sent a reply and closed his laptop.

He walked out onto the balcony and took a look at Dublin. As he stood there, he knew that he couldn’t wait two days for an answer from Steph but he knew that she was getting ready for Simon’s birthday and he decided to go there later that evening. Remy finished his beer and walked back inside to start packing. He would be leaving Dublin the next day, with or without Steph.

In the junior ballroom of the hotel, Gillian and Simon were getting ready to greet their guests. They still had ten minutes before people would arrive and Simon took one last look around the ballroom to make sure that everything was perfect.

The Divos, Alyssa, Sam, Carla and Carlos made their appearance but there was no sign of Steph. They all looked at each other, wondering why she hadn’t come down. Sam was the only one, besides Séb, who knew what had happened in Steph’s suite and she was convinced it had something to do with that. Just as Sam was about to leave the ballroom to get her, Steph appeared at the doorway.

“I’m so sorry for being late,” Steph apologized.

“It’s ok, Stephanie. You’re here now but you seem a bit beside yourself. Are you ok?” Simon asked.

“I’m fine, just a bit confused,” Steph replied, looking at Séb.

Séb looked back at her and he smiled at her as his eyes scanned her body. His mind drifted back to the kiss they had shared and he wanted to repeat that kiss. He wanted to feel her lips on his again but would she let him kiss her again? Séb was just as confused about the kiss as she was. Séb’s mind was working on overtime when someone suddenly padded him on the shoulder.

“Are you still with us, brother?” David smiled.

“What?” Séb asked him.

“I just asked you if you were still with us. You seemed far away,” David replied.

“I’m sorry, David. I was just thinking about something,” Séb said, feeling a bit embarrassed.

“Well, it happens to all of us. I hope it’s nothing bad,” David looked at him.

“It’s not bad at all, David. At least I don’t think it is. Oh, I don’t know,” Séb sighed.

“If you want to talk about it, we are all here for you,” David said.

“I know that. Thanks!” Séb smiled.

“No problem,” David smiled back.

The other guests started to arrive and after greeting everyone, Simon welcomed them all and told them that dinner would be served soon. He asked them to find their seats and after being seated, dinner was served.

Simon had arranged for the Divos to be seated at one table since the other guests were mostly family and friends and the Divos didn’t have a problem with that. Everyone was having a great time and the food was excellent. Steph and Séb shared looks and the others had noticed the looks but they didn’t know what was going on with the two of them. Sam was the only one who knew about the kiss but she wasn’t going to tell anyone because it wasn’t her job to tell. She knew that Steph was confused about the kiss and as long as she didn’t know what the kiss meant, Sam wouldn’t say anything.

After dinner, Simon announced that coffee would be served in another room but they would return to the ballroom later where there would be dancing. They all left the ballroom and walked into the other room for coffee but returned to the ballroom half an hour later. It didn’t take long for the first couples to get on the dance floor and soon after, the Divo couples were dancing too. Steph watched as the couples were dancing and once again she felt a bit left out. She got up and walked towards to the door when Séb suddenly stood in front of her.

“Are you leaving already?” he asked.

“Yes, I am. I’m not feeling well,” she replied, looking down at the floor.

“That’s not true,” Séb put his hand under her chin and raised her head to look at him.

“How would you know what I feel?” she asked him.

“I don’t know what you feel but I can tell that you’re lying and I am not letting you leave without a dance,” Séb held out his hand to her.

Without saying a word, Steph placed her hand in his and Séb smiled as he led her to the dance floor. Séb pulled her close and her mind drifted back to that December day in London when she had met him for the first time. He held her as tight as he did back then and it was sending shivers down her spine. Her eyes met Sam’s and she knew what Sam was thinking. Being this close to Séb was driving her crazy, especially because she still had no idea about why he had kissed her. Was Sam right? Did Séb love her? Was he just doing it to stop her from going with Remy? But why would he do that? After everything she had learned about Remy, there was no way that she would follow him to America.

“It looks like Séb and Steph are finally getting along,” Carla looked at David.

“Yes, it does and it was about time. He has finally realized that she is a good PA,” David looked at Carla.

“It’s more than that, David. Look at the way he looks at her,” Carla told him.

“I know. She looks at him the same way. It’s obvious that they are in love but they have both been hurt and I think they need time,” David smiled.

“You’re right. It will happen when they are ready,” Carla smiled back.

As the music stopped playing, they walked back to their table and sat down. Everyone was dying to know what had happened between Steph and Séb but they didn’t want to ask, at least not yet. For the rest of the evening, they all had a great time dancing and talking. It was just around midnight when the guests began to leave the party and the Divos decided to call it a night too. They had made plans to do a little sightseeing in Dublin and they would be leaving right after breakfast.

When they all walked out of the ballroom, they didn’t know that Remy was at the hotel bar. He had been at the hotel bar for an hour and he had been enjoying a few beers. He watched as they walked over to the elevator and as soon as they were out of sight, he finished his beer and left the bar. Pushing the button to the elevator, he wondered what to say to Steph. He wanted to apologize to her and hopefully she would accept his apology.

After saying goodnight to their friends, Steph and Séb continued to the 4th floor. They didn’t say much to each other after the others had left the elevator because they didn’t know what to say. As they reached their floor, Séb escorted Steph to her room.

“You didn’t have to walk me to my room,” Steph said to Séb.

“I know but I wanted to,” Séb smiled at her.

“Can I ask you something?” Steph looked at him as she stuck the keycard in the slot.

“Sure,” Séb replied.

“Why did you kiss me earlier?” she asked him.

“I just thought that if you could kiss a man like Remy, then you could kiss any man,” Séb answered.

“I never kissed Remy,” Steph surprised him by saying.

“What? I thought you were dating,” Séb looked at her.

“We had one date and when he tried to kiss me after the date, I pulled away. It just didn't seem right. Besides, I don't let just anyone kiss me," Steph said.

"You let me kiss you," Séb reminded her.

"I know that but you are not just anyone. Good night, Séb," Steph kissed his cheek before walking into the suite, closing the door behind her.

Now he was wondering if he was right about her all along. Steph just told him that he is not just anyone. Was she looking to latch onto a rich man too? He started to walk down the hallway as his mind was trying to process her words.

"That's stupid, Izambard. Steph is a good woman. She's a woman of class, morals and conviction. But what did she mean? If I'm not just anyone then who am I?" Séb was talking out loud to himself.

Images of his Divo friends with their girls entered his mind and he knew that they were all happy. Urs was married to a wonderful woman, David had met his soul mate in Carla and Carlos had met the woman of his dreams. He had been riding in the elevator with Carlos and Sam and he could tell that they were happy together. Carlos cherished her and she adored him. Suddenly, a thought crept into Séb’s head. Did Steph want with him what Sam had with Carlos or what the other Divos had with Alyssa and Carla? Did she love him?

“That's even crazier than your earlier thoughts, Izambard,” Séb said to himself.

Steph was a married woman when she became a fan of Il Divo. But did daydreaming about a famous man when you’re married count as cheating? He didn't know. He was lost, confused and more importantly alone. He had no one to talk to about the dilemma that was consuming him. Carlos was busy with Sam, David and Urs were with their girls. He had no male companion to turn to, to have a man's talk with. He was just about to enter his room when he saw a familiar face come out of the elevator.

"Where the he** are you going?" Séb asked Remy with anger in his voice.

"I’m going to see Steph, I believe she owes me an answer," Remy replied.

"She doesn't owe you a da** thing," Séb was furious that Remy had the nerve to come back.

"This is between me and my girlfriend; not you. Get lost”, Remy told him.

"You are seriously delusional. You go on one date and you think she's your girlfriend, what world are you living in?” Séb looked at him.

"Well, at least I can take care of her," Remy said.

"Really? So, you always sleep with women you haven't kissed?" Séb looked at him.

"I kiss her all the time," Remy lied, wondering how Séb knew that he hadn't kissed Steph.

"That's not what she says. I know you were never good at math but can't you tell basic time? You said you would contact her in two days, so why are you here?" Séb asked.

"I don't answer to you," Remy tried to walk pass him.

"Maybe you don't hear so well? Stay away from Steph!" Séb grabbed him by the collar and pushed him up against the nearest wall.

"Get your hands off me!" Remy tried to get away.

"Get out of my life, her life and my friends lives!" Séb glared at him.

"I said let go of me," Remy punched Séb in the face.

As Séb went down, Remy smiled before walking down the hall to Steph’s room. He felt good about what he had just done as he knocked on the door to her room. His hand was hurting but it was worth it. Seeing his older brother on the floor, trying to get up was making him feel good.

“What are you doing here?” Steph asked as she opened the door.

“I’m here for my answer. Can I come in?” Remy looked at her.

“No! We can do this out here,” Steph firmly stated.

“As you wish. Are you coming with me?” Remy asked as he kept rubbing his hand.

“No, I am not coming with you. I have my life, my job and my friends here. You have to go alone. What happened to your hand?” Steph looked at his hand.

“I hit something,” Remy explained.

“What did you hit?” Steph asked.

“He hit me,” Séb appeared at the door with blood coming from his mouth.

Chapter 24

Steph was furious! She looked at Remy with anger burning in her eyes. She couldn’t believe that she had been wrong about Remy, and she hated herself for not believing Séb’s warnings. Now he was standing there in front of her, feeling good about hitting Séb, and the grin on his face was too much for her to deal with. She hit Remy hard across the face and he was just about to hit her back when he felt Séb grabbing his arm.

“Don’t even think about it,” Séb said angrily, as he stepped in front of Steph.

"Get out of my way, Sébastien," an equally as angry Remy said, as he raised his voice.

"No! I suggest you leave now and stay out of our lives," Séb informed him as he glanced at him.

“You haven't seen the last of me. This is not over,” Remy yelled before leaving.

“Thanks, Séb,” Steph said to him when Remy had disappeared.

“You’re welcome,” he smiled with pain written all over his face.

“Let’s get you cleaned up,” Steph said as she closed the door.

Séb sat down and Steph walked into the bathroom to get some water and a cloth to clean Séb up with. She returned to the living room and sat down in front of him as she dipped the cloth in the water. Steph gently wiped the blood off his face and as she did so, Séb felt a strong urge to kiss her again but he wasn't sure she would let him. Not wanting to upset her further, he let the chance pass him by.

“Ok, you’re done now,” Steph announced as she smiled at him.

“Thanks but you didn’t have to do it. I could have done it myself,” Séb replied, looking at her.

“I know that but you got hurt because you were defending me,” Steph remarked as she avoided his eyes.

“Listen to me, Steph. I am the one who tried to stop Remy from seeing you. It’s not your fault,” replied Séb as he took her hand.

“I still feel responsible,” Steph told him.

“Well, you shouldn’t,” Séb bantered back as he smiled at her.

His smile and the way he looked at her made her feel weak inside and she didn’t know what to do. No man had ever looked at her like that before, not even Mark. She remembered Sam’s words about Séb being in love with her and she wondered if Sam was right. Suddenly Séb raised his hand and touched her cheek as he moved his head closer to hers. Steph knew what was about to happen but she wasn't ready to go down that path yet.

"Why?" Séb asked as Steph pulled away

"Ever since I came into your life, you have tried to push me away and in less than two days you have kissed me once and now you were about to kiss me again," Steph replied.

"Isn't that what you wanted?" questioned Séb looking at her.

"I wanted you be respectful of me, the fact that I work for you and that I am a person. I never wanted you to think that I wanted you to kiss me. I mean, I want you to kiss me because we both want it but with everything that has happened tonight, I don't want to," Steph told him truthfully.

Séb knew Steph was right. Things were finally smooth between them and he didn't want to take chances with that. But deep down he knew that Steph was an important woman in his life, and he couldn't wait to see how deep their building bond of friendship would go.

"I should leave. It's late and I could use some sleep," Séb told her, as he rose from the chair and walked to the door.

"You're mad at me, aren't you?" Steph questioned. She had surprised him by asking.

"No, I'm not mad at you," Séb answered as he turned around to look at her.

"Are you sure? I don't want you to hate me," Steph whispered as she walked over to him.

"I don't hate you, Steph, Good night," Séb told her before leaving the suite.

"Good night, Séb," Steph closed the door behind him.

After gathering her thoughts, she walked into the bathroom to get ready for bed. She came out of the bathroom, wearing her night gown and climbed into bed. The images of Séb standing at the door with blood on his face and Remy’s smile entered her mind as she was lying in bed. She knew that they were not blood related but how could they be so different when they had been raised by the same parents? Letting out a yawn, Steph closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep, dreaming of the man she loved.

After returning to his suite, Séb grabbed a bottle of water from the minibar before walking out on the balcony. He thought of the e-mail he had gotten from his parents earlier that day and he couldn't wait to go home and see them again. Séb wanted to ask Steph to be his date for the anniversary but he wasn't sure it was a good idea since Remy had been invited too. He hoped that Remy would say no to the invitation but he knew that Remy would not let his parents down on their special day.

Séb let out a sigh as he walked back inside and climbed into bed. As he closed his eyes, he saw Steph's face and a smile appeared on his face. He had been so wrong about her and he couldn't wait to get to know her better now that it seemed like they both wanted the same thing.

Unaware of what had been going on in Steph’s suite, Carlos and Sam were getting ready for bed. Carlos was in the bathroom as Sam was standing by the open window, looking out into the night. The moonlight was really soothing and the light breeze was playing with her hair. She closed her eyes and let her mind wander as Carlos came out of the bathroom. As he watched her standing there, he couldn’t believe that a girl like Sam had never had any romance in her life and he hoped that she would let him be the one to show her what love was all about.

Letting out a sigh, Sam closed the window and turned around to see Carlos standing in front of her. He did look handsome and she tried hard not to stare at his chest that peeked out from his partially open shirt.. She froze as he walked over to her and pulled her into his arms. As he held her in his arms, he could tell that something was bothering her but did he dare ask her what it was?

“What’s wrong, querida?” he softly asked.

“I’m not used to all of this,” Sam looked down at the floor.

“What do you mean?” Carlos raised her head to look at him.

“Romance, affection and love. I’m not used to that,” she slipped out of his embrace.

“Are you saying that you’ve never had a boyfriend?” Carlos wanted to know.

“No, I had a boyfriend a long time ago but romance, love and affection were not part of his vocabulary,” Sam sighed.

"Then he wasn't a boyfriend, not in any true sense of the word. I love you and if you let me, I will show you what you have been missing,” Carlos gently kissed her.

Sam was lost in his embrace and his kiss but she couldn’t stop thinking about his words. He had told her that he loved her and it scared her. It was the first time she had heard those words from a man and Carlos was not only a man, he was the man she loved plus he was a Divo.

“This can’t be real. I’ve dreamed of this for a very long time,” Sam whispered, as she pulled away from him.

“Then let’s make the dream a reality,” Carlos murmured as he lifted her into his arms.

He carried her into the bedroom and gently laid her down on the bed before joining her. Carlos pulled her into his arms and kissed her softly as his hands caressed her body.

"Carlos, wait," Sam requested as she moved away.

"What is wrong? If you aren't ready we can wait," he assured her.

"I'm feeling so many emotions now; happy, scared, love. It's a war battling inside of me. For years, you were a man that I had pictured a life with; now here you are about to make love to me and it's hard for me to believe that you want me in your life," Sam told him.

"Why? You are beautiful, sweet, kind, warm--" Carlos started to say.

"That right there is what I mean, Carlos. You called me beautiful; no man has ever done that," she looked away from him so he wouldn't see her tears.

"Then that's their problem, not ours but I feel there's more going on here, Sam. You can tell me," Carlos told her.

"It's you, not you but you," she muttered, looking at him.

"What?" He had no idea what she meant.

"Now that I have gotten to know you somewhat as a man, I know that you're warm, sweet, kind; all things that I thought you were. But there is another side to you; Carlos Marin--the Divo, the Spanish baritone. You say you love me, but you said it moments before you carried me to this bed. I'm not saying that you don't mean it, but part of me is wondering why me. Why does a man like you want a nobody like me?" she questioned, looking down at the bed.

"No, I will not have you talk this way about yourself. I'm not special," Carlos informed, touching her arm.

"You are a member of Il Divo. You are Carlos Marin. You are the type of man that women dream about; the dark hair, the tanned skin, the smouldering eyes. You could have any woman you want," came her reply, as she looked at him

"You're right, I could have any woman I want but I don't want any woman. I'm forty years old and I have dated women since I was in my twenties’. And I came to learn, that some women can be really superficial and self-absorbed and not one really cared about me. They wanted a friend with benefits. That kind of thing might be fine for some men, but not me. I want a woman who looks at me like I'm the only man on the planet, a woman that loves me for me, I want a woman who isn't afraid to be herself around me. I want you, Sam. I love you," he declared, as he cupped her face in his hands.

Looking deep into his honey brown eyes, Sam knew Carlos was telling the truth. He had poured his heart out to her, and she knew that it wasn't just fluff, that those were real honest emotions.

"I love you too," she admitted kissing him.

Sam started to unbutton his shirt. Carlos grabbed her hands as if to say he should initiate the love making.

"I want to unbutton your shirt. I dreamed about this moment too." she smiled as she continued to unbutton his shirt.

She ran her hands over his chest, up to his shoulders and pushed the shirt off his body. Carlos took time in unzipping her dress and within minutes, Carlos and Sam were showing each other what the other meant to them. Sam could not believe that Carlos was hers, and that he loved her. And Carlos couldn't believe that he was finally with a woman who wanted to be loved by him.
