I thought they were already married and the divorce had not come thru in 2 months cause they did consumate the marriage and now it is not an annulment...

And if the Judge get wind of the Baby there will be no Divorce.... I like that idea...

Can't believe Urs went and ask David if he had to marry her....

OH and Not Freaking out here just commenting on the stupid things men do when they get a girl in trouble..

Thanks for reading and replying ladies!
I'm glad you like that idea that Lynnea is moving in with Urs Wink I know i wouldn't mind!

But be prepared for a little ......um.....stupidity from Urs coming up. Just a warning.
New chapter will be up tomorrow.

Oh, and Laura, I searched annulments because you were wondering and you can qualify for one if one or both parties were intoxicated at the time of the marriage. I agree that they should have tried to work it out, but it made sense for my plot to have them split again. They're back together now though Very Happy

Chapter 7

Lynnea stayed with Urs and Il Divo for three more days. Urs gave her his credit card so she could get some clothes to replace what she’d lost in the fire. Lynnea picked up a few maternity things as well. She would soon need them all the time.

Urs had an interview the morning Lynnea was to fly out so Carlos escorted her to the airport. On the way he disclosed some secret information.

“Lynnea, Urs mentioned you used to be a wedding planner for high end weddings.”

“That’s true; I was.”

“I’m going to propose to my girlfriend, Cyd, soon. Would you be interested in helping her?”

“Yes! I’d love to do that.”

“Great! We’d appreciate having someone who won’t go blabbing to the press and you obviously know how to keep a secret.”

Lynnea forced a laugh and left Carlos at the car. The plane to Switzerland was uneventful and someone came to the airport to pick her up.

Urs’ home was 10 kilometers outside the capital of Bern. Lynnea’s breath caught when she saw how beautiful it was. It wasn’t overly large but it was a grand brick house with grand pillars and ivy crawling up the sides. Stone steps led up to the door. The house over looked a small pond that Urs said was good for swimming or fishing. To the other side was a grove of fruit trees, behind which was a white gazebo. The house was adorable. Lynnea was excited to be staying here in such a fairytale home.

She got out of the car and the driver removed her bags. She started towards the house, past beds of orange and gold flowers. The door opened. A woman, who appeared to be about 60, came running down. Her grey hair was pulled back in a bun and she wore an apron. She was yelling in excited German, but spoke English when she got to Lynnea.

“Lynnea! I’m so glad you’ve come! When Urs told me that you were coming to stay I was so happy!”

“Thank you so much for having me Mrs. Plowman.”

“No, no!! Call me Ruthie! That’s what I’ve been called since I born and that’s what I’ll be till I die.”

“All right, thank you Ruthie.”

“Let me help you with your things; you must be exhausted.”

In truth Lynnea was exhausted so she allowed Ruthie to pamper her this first evening. Lynnea was given a room with a massive white bed that was as soft as it looked. The room had a window that looked down on the gazebo in the apple trees. Lynnea sat on the bed and pulled her feet up. She told herself she would just rest a moment…

Lynnea woke up the next morning to the smell of food cooking down in the kitchen. She found Ruthie flipping pancakes.

“Oh, there you are Lynnea! I hope you slept well. You and that baby need all the rest you can get.”

“I slept well, thank you.”

Ruthie placed a large stack of pancakes in front of Lynnea.

“Eat up. You want a big healthy baby!”

Lynnea ate all the pancakes then Ruthie said she would give Lynnea a tour of the house. They walked through the parlor and sitting room then came to the household bedrooms.

“This is the master bedroom,” Ruthie said. “Urs was born in this very room. I was there. That was such a joyful day.”

Lynnea saw a picture of Urs’ mother and father. Urs was a copy of his father except the eyes. The eyes were unmistakably from his mother.

The next room was a child’s room. A cherry wood, silver plated crib sat in the center of the room. “This was Urs’ room,” Ruthie said. Toys still sat on a shelf in the corner and hanging across from them was a painted portrait of Urs at about 10 years old.

Lynnea was curious, “Where are Urs’ parents now? Traveling?”

“Oh, bless their souls, they’ve both moved on,” Ruthie said grabbing a hankie. “Urs runs the estate now, but he’s hardly ever here you know. I kept hoping he’d meet someone worth slowing down for so he’d stay home for a while. This poor house is so dreary when it’s just me.”

Ruthie dabbed her eyes and quickly moved on with the tour. Lynnea took a mental note to not bring Urs’ parents up again.

Carlos and Cyd ~ The Proposal

Il Divo finished their last show in Australia and Carlos asked Cyd to go out afterward. Cyd dressed up in a new red dress. Carlos and Cyd left their hotel room and stepped into the elevator and Cyd reached to hit the button for the lobby, but Carlos hit the button for the roof.

“What are we doing?”

“Es una sorpresa, mi amor.” (It’s a surprise, my love.) He answered taking her hand in his.

On the roof of the hotel a helicopter waited for them. The pilot took them around the Sydney bay then out over the ocean.

“Carlos, this is marvelous, nothing could be better than this!” Cyd said placing a kiss on Carlos’ lips.

“Nothing?” he raised an eyebrow.

“Nothing.”

“Then maybe I shouldn’t give you the gift I brought along.”

“I never said you couldn’t try to top it!” Cyd giggled.

“Carlos pulled a small box out of his suit jacket and handed it to Cyd.

She gasped and opened the box to find a beautiful blue tinted diamond on a silver band. Carlos took Cyd’s hand in his and the ring in the other.

“Cydalia, will you marry me?”

“YES!!!”

He slipped the ring on her finger and they locked lips as the helicopter flew over the lights of Sydney.

PostSubject: Re: Waking Up in Vegas   Waking Up in Vegas - Page 2 EmptyTue Jan 12, 2010 9:17 pm

Well, I wasn't planning to post another chapter today, because I know that everyone's going to be angry after this one, but since everyone responded so fast here you go.
Please don't hurt me after this chapter, it's all for a dramatic story.

Chapter 8

Lynnea had been in Switzerland three months when Urs finally had a break from the tour. He would be home for a month then travel to Asia for three weeks. At five months pregnant Lynnea was showing quite blatantly. Ruthie had helped Lynnea to alter her clothes enough to wear them a month more. Lynnea was in the orchard picking the first apples of the summer so Ruthie could make one more apple pie. Urs saw her from his parents’ room where he now slept. Ruthie crept into the room behind him.

“She’s a lovely girl, isn’t she?”

Urs turned, startled at the voice.

Ruthie went on, “She has the glow of motherhood. She’ll be a very good mother.”

“Yeah.”

“Urs, she’s been here all alone for three months, I’m sure she’d enjoy talking to someone other than me.”

“We’ve talked.”

“’Good morning’ doesn’t count. Ask her what she likes; get to know her.”

“Lynnea and I are not romantically attached. I’m giving her a place to stay because she’s carrying my child. I don’t want to get emotionally involved.”

“She’s the mother of your child; how can you not get emotionally involved?”

Urs turned to Ruthie with anger in his eyes. She stepped back.

“It appears I’ve overstepped my bounds. I’ll just keep quiet, but give the girl a chance.”

Ruthie left Urs in his room. He looked back down at Lynnea who was biting into an apple. She did look a bit lonely walking through the trees by herself. He considered going down to help her, but he pulled closed the curtains and forgot the thought.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

The first week Urs was home on break he seemed to avoid Lynnea. She could tell. She was reminded of his avoidance of her every time she passed his closed bedroom door. Ruthie told her to be patient with Urs. Lynnea always tried her best to be polite and talkative when Urs was out of his room, but her efforts were ignored.

One day Ruthie’s words to Urs seemed to finally sink into him. He heard Lynnea walking up the stairs then passing his doorway. He stood when he heard a thud from the hallway. He peered out at the scene. Lynnea had dropped her book and she was preparing to bend to pick it up, a task that was becoming increasingly difficult with her ever growing belly. Urs saw all this and ran out to help.

“Let me get that for you.”

“Thanks,” she looked at him smiling. She continued to walk, but he caught her hand.

“Can I get you anything, Lynnea?”

“I would love some ice cream,” Lynnea smiled.

“Excuse me for not offering to take you to town, but I don’t want to draw attention. What flavor would you like?”

“Double peanut butter ripple with chocolate, caramel, whipped cream and cherries.”

Urs’ eyes widened.

“I’m eating for two.” She reminded him.

Urs brought back the ice cream and they shared it on the front steps. Lynnea soon found herself laughing with Urs. He still had a mysterious veil around his thoughts but Lynnea could tell he was genuinely trying to be friendly.

The next two weeks flew as Urs and Lynnea started to spend more time together. Then Urs had to go away again. Lynnea and Ruthie waved goodbye as he pulled out of the driveway. Lynnea set her hand on her belly and Ruthie put her hand on Lynnea’s.

“Don’t worry, dear, he’ll be back soon enough.”

Three days later packages started arriving, each one bearing the words ‘for the baby.’ Lynnea opened the first to find a hand painted rattle from Tokyo. Next was an Indian rocking horse then a Chinese mobile of blown glass to hang over the baby’s crib. There was also a plethora of toys and goodies. The gifts came almost every day. Lynnea loved the gifts for the baby and she enjoyed setting them around Urs’ childhood room where she imagined her own child sleeping.

One day a package came but it didn’t say ‘baby,’ it said ‘Lynnea.’ In the wrappings was a wood and porcelain music box. Lynnea wound the box and opened the lid. It played “Somewhere over the Rainbow,” but Lynnea wasn’t listening to the music. Her eyes caught on the pink necklace inside. The chain was fine white silver and hanging in the center was a pink flower.

She carefully picked it up feeling as if it would crumble in her fingers. It sparkled in the sunlight coming through the trees. She smiled to herself and thought of Urs’ kindness for sending her such an exquisite gift. She laid it back in the box, afraid to put it on.

Lynnea tried to ignore the feelings that were starting to fill her whenever she thought about Urs, but she couldn’t deny that she longed for his company. The last week before he’d return for a long stay was the slowest week she’d spent in Switzerland.

Ruthie and Lynnea prepared a special meal and celebration of the end of Il Divo’s tour for Urs’ return. Lynnea wore a new dress of blue satin. She also wore the pink necklace from Urs. Ruthie and Lynnea waited right inside the door as Urs pulled into the driveway. He opened the front door and walked right past the women. He left his luggage in the car and went straight to his office. Lynnea’s hopes that Urs had felt something for her as well thundered down and she went to her room to hide the stinging tears from Ruthie.

Lynnea took off the dress and the necklace and hid them in the back of the closet. She came to a decision that starting any kind of romance with Urs was out of the question. He was too unpredictable and moody. It would only be a distraction, and when things didn’t work out they would still be left with a child to raise. She decided to stop her infatuation and stay away from Urs.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Urs felt like a traitor. He tried to tell himself he hadn’t done anything wrong, but no matter what he said to himself he still felt as if he’d betrayed his child. Urs hated leaving home to finish the tour, but when he arrived he forgot Lynnea instantly when he met the substitute hair dresser. Their main hair dresser was asked to design hair for a new musical and Il Divo was assigned Megan Rivaldi from Austria. She had jet black hair with heavy lidded eyes. She had curiously long legs which she showed off in dangerously high shoes and shockingly short skirts. Urs was instantly attracted to her and the feeling seemed to be mutual. The third night Megan combed back Urs’ hair then let her hands linger on his shoulders; she traced a finger against his neck. Their eyes connected in the mirror. She smirked at him with playfulness in her eyes then disappeared out the door.
The playful flirting continued that week and the next until one night after the concert Urs went to his dressing room to find Megan there.

“Urs,” she purred. He was instantly aroused.

“Hello Megan,” he said trying to restrain himself.

She walked to him slowly swaying her hips. She dragged her hands up his chest then draped her arms around his neck. Urs let her push him to the couch and swing her leg over him. Megan pushed his suit jacket off his shoulders and started to unbutton his shirt. She leaned down to kiss his neck. Her lips burned against his flesh. He moved to push her shirt off. After, she went back to kissing his neck. He put a finger under her chin and brought her lips up to his. Megan hiked up her skirt. She and Urs gave into their lust there in the dressing room.

After the act, Urs and Megan lay on the couch letting their pulses and breathing return to normal. A sour feeling had fixed itself in Urs’ stomach; it grew with every stroke of Megan’s hand on his body. The ecstasy of his fulfilled desires had passed leaving only thoughts of Lynnea and the child that would arrive in three months. His child.

Megan whispered in Urs’ ear, “Why don’t we go back to the hotel? We could have…a repeat performance.”

Urs swallowed hard. “I can’t, Megan.” She sat up with a puzzled look.

“Why not?”

“I-I just can’t.” Urs replied stiffly.

Megan pursed her lips and moved off of Urs. She pulled her shirt back on and quickly straightened her skirt. The lust that had still shone in her eyes had hardened into anger.

“When you change your mind, I’ll be waiting,” she told him then left the room.

Urs avoided Megan after that night; he had Megan do his hair in David’s room so they were never alone together. Megan tried her hardest to seduce him yet again.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

As Urs neared his Swiss country home after the tour he thought of his relationship with Lynnea. It was too much of a risk. Inside, Urs felt as if he’d betrayed her, but he tried to convince himself that he had no promise to Lynnea about such things. Either way he decided to avoid her as well. He walked into the house and past the mother of his child. He never looked back. If he had, she would have seen the tears in his eyes.

Well...well...well! Seems our Urs couldn't control himself! Laughing Laughing

But although I don't agree with what he did....he really doesn't have a 'relationship' with Lynnea so I don't feel he betrayed her! But he clearly feels like he did so that alone tells me he has feeling for her which run deep! I believe they will get past this and be happy with their child...hopefully!

More soon please!

Chapter 9-David and Sony

David asked Sony to stay at his apartment in New York City when he got done with the tour. Sony knew that she’d have to take a lot of time off work, but the idea of having a chance with David Miller was enough of a temptation to put her job at risk. He picked her up at the NYC airport and they taxied to his apartment in Manhattan. David’s place was on the twenty-fourth floor on 47th Avenue overlooking Broadway. Sony had no idea what a place like this cost, but was sure Il Divo’s royalties were covering it.

“Your place is amazing,” Sony gushed looking around. The light flooded in from the windows lining the walls.
“Thank you,” David replied. “I really enjoy it here, but it will be nice to have someone to share it with me for a while.”

Sony blushed. David picked up her bags and set them in the guest bedroom next to his own. Sony secretly wished they could go to his room, she suddenly went to a dream world where her bags would go into David's room.

“What would you like to do first, Sony?” David asked reappearing and jolting Sony out of her dream.

“Anything!” Sony said. “Take me to your favorite place.”

David led Sony back down to the busy street and called a taxi. He told the driver to take them to Central Park. The setting sun was just beginning to darken the skies. Neon lights of the city were starting to pop against darkened buildings. The taxi stopped and David helped Sony out of the car and paid the driver. Sony looked up at the mass of trees; central park was like a forest in the middle of the huge city. She just stared up at the trees hitting the horizon where the stars were beginning to shine. She felt David take her hand and lead her into the park. They walked down a path that twisted and turned. Sony knew if she was alone she’d be lost in a minute.

They finally came to a clearing where there was a fountain. The edges were simple, but at the center was a sculpture of a maiden playing a harp. Sony smiled and squeezed David’s hand.

“I can understand why this is your favorite place; it’s beautiful.”

“I’ve always imagined that I’d meet her human counterpart and she’d be the one for me,” David said gesturing to the woman in the fountain.

“Have you met her?” Sony asked.

“Take a closer look,” David answered.

Sony moved closer to the fountain, so close that she could feel a slight mist from the bubbling water. She looked up at the woman. Her dress flowed down around her body and her hair flew with the wind. Sony inhaled when she realized that the woman of stone really did look like her. She looked back to David; he wrapped his arms around her and placed a kiss on her forehead.

“Sony, I think you’re the one.”

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Urs and Lynnea were back to the rare conversations of only “Good Morning” or “Please pass the butter.” Their eyes never met. Lynnea had trouble sleeping now. She decided it was a mixture of her heartache and her growing stomach that made her unceasingly uncomfortable. Her excitement for the baby started to weaken. Lynnea seriously considered leaving Switzerland and trying to go back home to raise the child all on her own, but her respect for Urs and Ruthie kept her there.

Urs was feeling the same way, but he also kept it all inside, hiding from his feelings and from Lynnea. Thankfully Ruthie kept her distance and didn’t pry into Urs’ mind. He didn’t imagine ever admitting what he’d done to her.

When Lynnea was about seven and a half months along, Urs was in his room mindlessly strumming his guitar, hoping something amazing would pop into his head. He was searching for the words and searching for the music. Urs looked up for a knock at the door.

“Come in,” he called.

Ruthie stepped in, “There’s someone at the door for you, dear, a young woman.”

Urs was confused. “Who?”

“She says her name is Megan and that you know each other well.”

Urs’ stomach dropped. He groaned and set down his guitar.

“You do know her?” Ruthie asked.

“Yes.”

Ruthie gave a look that Urs knew to be one of condemnation. Urs was not surprised that Ruthie didn’t approve of Megan with her dark hair and smoldering eyes. She was probably also dressed rather shockingly.
Urs went down the stairs. Megan was wearing something that most people would disapprove of. It was a skintight mini-dress. The neckline plunged and cut-outs up the sides showed incredible amounts of skin.

“Megan,” was all he said to her.

“Hello, Urs, I’ve missed you so much I just couldn’t resist coming to see you!” Megan flung her arms around his neck and placed a kiss on his cheek. “You never came to visit me again,” she said pouting. “I thought we had fun that night in your dressing room.” Megan’s voice was fading from its fake innocence to its normal seductive tone.

“Megan, we need to talk about that-“

“We can talk all you want Urs,” she said running her tongue across her bottom lip.

Urs knew Ruthie was probably watching and listening from around the corner. He thought to take Megan outside where they could be watched but not overheard. He led her to the gazebo in the orchard, thankfully Lynnea was nowhere in sight; the gazebo was one of her favorite places to sit.

Megan thought he’d taken her outside to have privacy for their romance and she put arms around Urs’ waist, feeling his muscles through his tight t-shirt. Urs peeled her arms off him and stepped back.

“Why are you fighting me so much today, Urs?” Megan asked. “You have no idea how much that makes me want you even more.” She caressed his face.

Urs tried to call up words to send her away, but the same desires were awakened by her touches again.

“That’s right,” she purred. “You want it too.”

She slipped her other hand down his torso and onto his thigh. Urs groaned. Megan stepped even closer and placed her lips on Urs’.

Suddenly Urs’ mind was racing. His memories awakened and he saw images from seven months ago in Las Vegas with Lynnea. He recalled the feel of Lynnea’s lips and the burn of her skin on his. The memories he thought had been erased with his drunkenness came flooding back. He pushed Megan away almost violently.

“No, Megan!”

“What’s wrong with you?”

“I can’t do it. I can’t be with you like that.”

“Why not? I know you enjoyed it last time.” She toyed with the curls behind his ears, he pushed her hand away again. He turned his back to her. She came up behind him and snaked her arms around his middle.
“I want to feel you again,” she whispered.

That was the last straw; Urs wheeled around took Megan by the shoulders.

“I said no! Get out of here; I’m not interested!!”

“Fine! But when you’re all alone and needing some attention from a woman, you’ll wish you had me to take care of you.”

Urs watched her stomp across the lawn and turn at the side of the house.

Lynnea sat in the gazebo reading Persuasion by Jane Austen. It was the story of a couple who were in love when they were young, but then torn apart for 10 years. When they met again it took them the entire book to realize they did still love each other. Lynnea heard Urs’ soft German accent then a sultry woman’s voice. Lynnea closed her book and scurried away from the shelter and out of sight behind the nearest clump of apple trees. Lynnea didn’t mean to stay and eaves drop, but there was no way to creep away to the house without being spotted. Lynnea leaned behind a tree and tried not to move or be heard. She didn’t have to worry about it though, because Urs and the strange woman seemed to be quite focused on their conversation. Lynnea decided she was safe to peek around and watch the scene.

She saw Urs wrapped in the arms of a dark haired woman in a very short dress. Her stomach clenched until she saw Urs push her away.

“No Megan!” she heard him yell. Lynnea heard him tell Megan he couldn’t be with her.

The dark haired woman spoke again, “Why not? I know you enjoyed it last time.” Lynnea pulled back. The feelings for Urs that she’d tried so much to suppress were still there and the wound was still fresh. Lynnea told herself she had no right to be angry or jealous; Urs was not hers. He was an adult and he could conduct his relationships as he pleased.

Lynnea forced herself to look at them again, her curiosity taking over. Urs had his back turned to Megan, Lynnea could see his grey eyes growing colder and colder. Megan’s arms appeared around him and he threw her off yelling at her to leave. Megan finally gave up and walked away.

Lynnea watched Megan walk away and saw Urs sit down on a bench in the gazebo. He placed his head in his hands. Lynnea didn’t know what to do. She could have risked walking to the house, but Urs might look up and see her. Lynnea looked back to Urs and her body ached to comfort him.

Lynnea came out from behind the tree and quietly walked into the gazebo, sitting next to Urs. He didn’t notice her until she was right next to him. He looked over at her, considered saying something, but did not.

Lynnea spoke without looking at him. “You didn’t have to do that, you know. You don’t owe me anything.”
He looked at her with a surprised look.

“I have no expectations,” she went on. “You can be with whoever you want.”

“I couldn’t do it…I mean I couldn’t do it again.” Urs swallowed. “When she kissed me, I saw us that night. Then I realized that I owe our child something. It needs a father that loves it. I don’t need anyone else distracting me right now.”

Lynnea didn’t have words, “You-you saw us?”

“Yes, I remembered.”

Lynnea’s feelings were looping in all directions. She was happy and sad and confused and surprised and longing. She didn’t know what feeling she wanted to believe.

“Well, thank you.” Lynnea said. “Thank you for respecting me and our baby.”

Urs gave her a small smile. He stood and offered Lynnea a hand up. She took it but then stopped.

“Oh!” She exclaimed.

“What is it? What’s wrong?” Urs was suddenly concerned.

“Nothing’s wrong,” she smiled. “The baby kicked.”

“Really?”

“Yeah, would you like to feel it?” Lynnea asked.

“I don’t want to-” Urs couldn’t finish because Lynnea pulled him down to sit by her again and took his hand in hers. She daintily placed his palm over the left side of her belly with hers on top of his.

Urs waited then he felt a tiny kick against his hand. He laughed and looked to Lynnea who was smiling at him. Their eyes locked together. Lynnea spoke,

“Isn’t that a great feeling? Knowing that there’s someone alive in there? That’s our baby.”

Hey ladies, sorry this took so long; I've been getting resettled at college. But enjoy!

Chapter 10

Megan Rivaldi stalked across the lawn of Urs Buhler’s home. Her anger simmered in her chest. Her plan of seducing Urs again hadn’t gone exactly as she planned. She still hoped that maybe Urs would come find her when he desired some contact, but she already was trying to think of another way to get onto the celebrity scene. She was not above sleeping her way to the top.

She got out to her car and flung the door open. Then she thought of one more biting remark that she had for Urs. She started back to the backyard. She turned the corner but caught herself and moved back hiding all but her face behind the brick wall of the house. She peered around at Urs who was no longer alone in the gazebo.
She kept watching although she was too far away to hear what they were saying. Megan pulled out her camera phone to take a few pictures. Maybe it could bring in a little extra money. She snapped a pictures of Urs and the blonde mystery woman then was about to leave when Urs stood. With him out of the way Megan saw that the woman with him was very pregnant.

“So that’s your secret?” Megan said to herself. “Not for long Urs Buhler.” Megan took more pictures of the woman and her large stomach. She stashed her phone and almost skipped back to her car. Her sour mood had given way; a new plan was quickly formulating in her mind.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Urs and Lynnea’s on again-off again friendship was on again. Since the incident with Megan followed by feeling his child kick, Urs was excited to be a father. He asked Lynnea to pick colors to repaint his childhood room. Now the antique cradle sat in a room with blue and yellow pastel stripes: good for a boy or a girl for the baby. Lynnea wanted the baby’s gender to be a surprise. Lynnea insisted that the portrait of Urs as a child stay on the wall, and she delicately rearranged all the toys on the shelves.

Lynnea made a list of things they still needed, like a playpen, a highchair, and baby monitors. She asked Urs to go into the city for things and he asked her to come along. Lynnea was unsure about going because of the possibility of being seen, but Urs convinced her to come along.

Urs pulled his hair back to a pony tail and wore sunglasses. Lynnea also wore sunglasses and pushed her hair up into a knit hat. If they were recognized hopefully she wouldn’t be identified.

They drove to a baby store on the edge of Bern. Lynnea pushed the cart through the store; Urs kept a slight distance, never walking with her, but saying things as they would pass in the aisles. Urs once passed Lynnea seven times in the same aisle as they discussed bedding and pillow colors. Lynnea laughed as he tried to sneak around her.

Urs and Lynnea had so much fun walking through the store that they didn’t notice a red haired woman also creeping around the store. Megan had sold the pictures from her phone to the top Swiss tabloid “The Swiss Snitch.” The Snitch had paparazzi all over the country’s large cities on the lookout for celebrities: native Swiss like Urs Buhler and Roger Federer and others who had Switzerland as their second home like Shania Twain.
The red head’s trained eye had picked out Urs instantly on the street when he stepped out from his car. She carefully maneuvered her own cart around the store taking pictures as she passed the aisles where the couple was. She waited until they had paid for their merchandise then went to the cashier who had assisted them.
“Was that Urs Buhler?” she tried to sound like an excited fan.

“Who?” asked the young worker, obviously oblivious to Il Divo and Urs Buhler.

“That man, was he the singer Urs Buhler?”

“Yeah, that’s what his credit card said.”

“Was that his wife with him?” the reporter pressed for more information.

“They didn’t have wedding rings.” The cashier had no idea she was providing information that could hurt someone’s reputation.

“Did they tell you anything about the baby?”

“No, they didn’t say much. They were in a hurry or something.”

“Thanks,” the mysterious woman said walking out of the store quickly, leaving her cart of merchandise in the middle of the store.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Lynnea’s due date was quickly approaching, and she could tell with every step she took. Urs brought a chair down to the small strip of sand on the edge of the pond on his property for Lynnea to relax. She reclined in the sun trying to get comfortable, but it was hopeless. Urs was trying to be helpful in these last few weeks of the pregnancy, but he was getting to be just a bit annoying. He’d already brought Lynnea three glasses of lemonade and four pillows.

“Anything else you’d like Lynnea? An umbrella? A blanket?”

“I would like you to sit down and stop worrying about me.”

“Oh, sorry,” Urs sat in the sand next to her.

Lynnea laughed at seeing his still worried look. She closed her eyes, but she knew the pain in her back and knees would not let her nap.

She turned her face to Urs instead. He looked over at her.

“Can I ask you something?” he asked her.

“Yes.”

“Are you excited to be a mother?”

“Yes,” Lynnea replied. “I always wanted to be a mother, and I’ll be happy being that no matter what.”

“I’m afraid,” Urs admitted.

“Why?”

“I don’t want to mess it up. I want to be as good as my father; I don’t want to let my parents down in raising the grandchild they’ll never know.”

Lynnea saw the pain in his eyes from talking about his parents, “What happened to your parents, Urs?”

“My mother had cancer, a rare form of leukemia; she died five months after she was diagnosed when I was 25.”

“And your father?”

“He died three months after her, heart failure.”

“He died of a broken heart.”

“Yeah, he couldn’t live without mom. They loved each other more than anyone on the planet has ever loved anyone.” He fell silent.

“Urs?” Lynnea spoke. He turned back to her. “I think you’ll be a wonderful father.”

Chapter 11

Lynnea checked her watch as she felt yet another contraction coming on. She wrote down the time like the doctor told her to do. Lynnea had been having small contractions throughout the morning; they were slowly becoming more consistent. This one began nine minutes after the last one ended. Lynnea started to walk a lap around the front yard to keep her mind off the terrible cramping in her abdomen. She knew that today would be the day that her baby would be born.

Lynnea was told to wait to call the doctor until her water broke or the contractions started coming ever five minutes. Lynnea had decided to have the baby at Urs' home to secure privacy and to honor the tradition of Buhlers being born there. Ruthie would be the nurse for the birth.

Lynnea finally felt the pain subsiding and she went back to her seat. She checked her watch again; it had only lasted a minute, but it had felt like an hour. Lynnea unbuttoned her sweater a few buttons, feeling very warm from the physical toll of the contraction. She then picked up her novel and tried to focus before her next wave of pain came.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Urs sat in her room propping up pillows and sterilizing every single surface. Ruthie had come up to tell him that she predicted that today would be the day. Since then, Urs couldn't sit still; he was all nerves. He ran downstairs to grab even more pillows. As he came back up the stairs he glanced out the window to the front yard. He saw Lynnea walking through the falling orange and red leaves. Her blonde hair was glowing from the loose braid she'd attempted to keep it back in. Her sweater was blowing open in the wind also and Urs thought it was exposing more skin than normal. He was entranced by her. He observed how gracefully she moved, even at nine months pregnant.

Urs pulled himself away from the window and deposited the pillows on his bed. He smiled as he continued to think about the woman walking around his front yard. Urs snuck back to the window to watch her again. He looked out at Lynnea who was still walking through the leaves. Suddenly Lynnea stopped and leaned forward, grasping her stomach.

Urs didn't stay to watch what happened next. He flew down the stairs and yelled through the open kitchen door as he passed.

“Ruthie! Call the doctor!”

He flung the front door open.

“Lynnea!” he shouted as he bounded across the lawn.

She looked over at him with a pained smile. “Hello Urs.” She was breathing deeply and kept walking.

“What's wrong, Lynnea?”

“Nothing's wrong. My water broke.”

Urs fidgeted awkwardly, “Well shouldn't we do something about that?”

Lynnea sucked in another deep breath. “Yeah, I was just going to wait for a contract-”

She couldn't finish her statement as a huge contraction hit her.

“Let's get you inside,” Urs said about to life Lynnea.

“Urs, I can get there,” Lynnea tried to move, but the pain in her abdomen only spread.

Urs lifted her easily with her arms tight around his neck. Lynnea put her head against Urs' chest and let him carry her inside and up to his room. Ruthie was waiting there with the bed ready and all the supplies they'd need. Ruthie moved steadily around the room, knowing exactly what to do.

“What do I do?” Urs asked, panicking.

“Go wait for the doctor,” Ruthie answered, shooing him from the room. She then went to Lynnea, “Now that he's gone, let's get you changed.” Ruthie helped Lynnea into a smock and back onto the bed.

A few short minutes later another contraction the Lynnea. The doctor came through the door soon after. Urs remained out in the hall, unsure of what to do. He could only hear Lynnea's whimpering through the door.
Lynnea lay in Urs' king size bed and she thought of her mother. She felt terrible for having caused so much pain at birth. Nothing could have prepared Lynnea for what was going on in her body at that moment. She felt Ruthie wipe her brow then heard her sweet German voice.

“Anything else you need dear?”

Lynnea panted. “Urs...” was all she could say.

The doctor looked up to Lynnea, “Okay, time to push. This is going to be a quick one.”

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Urs stood outside his room his room just staring at the dark oak door. He wanted to do something-anything to help but had no ideas of how to do that. He leaped forward when Ruthie came to the door.

“She's asking for you.”

“Me?”

Ruthie pushed the door open for him and he quickly stepped in. Ruthie went back to her spot at the bed beside Lynnea. Urs tip-toed to the other side of the bed. He knelt at the side and caught Lynnea's eye. She looked at him with sweat on her brow, yet she smiled.

“Urs,” she said reaching her left hand to him. He took it in his and smiled back.

“I'm here.” He squeezed her head went back on the pillows. She sat up when the doctor told her to push again.

She squeezed her eyes shut and Urs tried to will her energy. It went on like that for a while: Lynnea pushing then stopping to breath, each time looking over for a smile of encouragement from Urs.

“Just one more push,” said the doctor.

Tears were in the corners of Lynnea's eyes and Urs squeezed her hand as she pushed one last time. She let out a scream then her body relaxed onto the bed. She opened her eyes when she heard her child's first cries.
The doctor handed the baby to Ruthie who cleaned it quickly and gently.

Urs found himself caressing Lynnea's arm as she rested. Lynnea looked up to Ruthie and reached up to accept her child.

“You have a beautiful baby girl,” Ruthie cooed.

Lynnea gasped as she looked down at the little girl. Her skin was rosy and she had a few wisps of light colored hair. Ruthie had wrapped her in a soft pink blanket. Lynnea couldn't believe the little girl was really hers. She was the most precious thing in the world.
Lynnea suddenly remembered Urs. She looked at him. He had stood now and hovered near her.
“Sit down and hold your daughter,” she commanded.

Urs sat next to Lynnea on the bed and gently took his daughter in his arms. The little girl puckered up her face but then relaxed in her father's arms.

Urs had never seen anything so beautiful as his daughter. He knew instantly that he had to be part of her life. He had to be there as she walked her first steps, as she went to school, as she started liking boys, when she got her first broken heart. He would be the greatest father to this little girl that there ever was. Urs would stay close to Lynnea if that what it meant to be with this little angel: his daughter.

Urs was still sitting next to Lynnea, and she caressed the baby's hair as she leaned on Urs.

“What shall we name her?” Urs asked Lynnea.

She had a twinkle in her eye, “I think she should be Geneva.”

“Geneva?” Urs looked at her, startled. “Why?”

“It's a good, Swiss name don't you think?”

“That was my mother's name.”

“Exactly, so do you agree?”

“I think it's perfect, just like her.”

The new family of three sat there on the bed until Geneva fell asleep in her father's arms.
